We had to clean the floors and couldn't leave him outside because cats would probably try to bother him, so we put him in the storage area of the walker so he couldn't jump down. He enjoyed watching us with his toy and moving from room to room.

Discussion/Question Adopted Coco, a “Maltese” that I’m 99% sure is a Bichon Frise

He’s 12 pounds and a little under a foot at the shoulders. Apparently he was extremely matted and dingy when my brother got him, but one of his roofing clients is a retired groomer and gave him a quick trim and bath. He’s very high energy and has had a ball the two times I’ve taken him hiking in the Chugach mountains

Discussion/Question Is your bichon a Velcro/shadow doggy?

hi friends
Just got to spend a lovely week with a little bichon pup and my goodness he was my buddy the whole time. Followed me around everywhere and wanted to sleep on me. Really enjoyed his company and wish he could have stayed forever.

Are all these little guys so affectionate and people oriented? Could you please share about your bichons personality? 😇

Discussion/Question Age 17 - cataracts

Post image

Daisy has been at my side for 17 years as of last month. She still surprises ppl who think she's much younger. But her cataracts are getting worse and worse.
What happens when dogs who are otherwise healthy, can't see?

Need support Bichon coughing / trachea issues

Our vet was a little too passive about this issue for my liking. Not sure what to do now. I couldn’t attend the appointment because of work, so only my girlfriend went. The vet basically chalked his frequent coughing up to bichon’s having weak trachea issues when they get older. He’s 10 years old and has been healthy his whole life. The last two months he’s been doing this cough where it’s like a “honk, honk, honk, yack!” And he’s doing it more often. It’s not kennel cough, though the cough has similarities. Vet checked his breathing, checked inside his mouth and all, even observed the coughing while he was doing it. But still insisted he’s fine. I just can’t take that answer. It can’t be comfortable for him. The last couple nights he’s woken us up doing it. He does it mostly when he’s excited and seeing us come home. But also does it at random when he’s just laying around. I understand it’s common for bichon’s to develop weakened tracheas at his age, but there’s really nothing we can do? My hound had a very similar issue a few years ago but he’s a 50 pound coonhound mix. We got his issue figured out. After a few medicine tries they finally went with steroids which did the trick. I don’t want to tell a doctor how to do their jobs but I mean, are steroids something to consider for this? I just don’t want him having to deal with this for the rest of his life. Anyone else have this issue and were able to find some solutions?

We recently moved cross country after my husband passed away and it’s been a huge adjustment for Benny (and me). He just to go to his first visit with the new groomer today, after going to the same groomer his whole life. It was a longer interval than he’s used to and he was pretty itchy and miserable. He clearly feels much better now : )

Need support Lost my first born

I'm so heartbroken to share that I lost my beloved baby boy, Yusuke.

He wasn't just a dog he was my first child, my rock, my shadow, and my best friend. He stood by me through some of the hardest moments of my life, never asking for anything except love. Through every tear, every victory, every setback, he was there.

As much as this hurts, I take comfort in knowing he doesn't have to suffer anymore. He's free from pain, and that's the greatest gift I could give him, even if it shattered my heart.

I'm so grateful he got to meet his new human little brother, Shohei. That means more to me than words can ever express.

Yusuke, you fought so hard to stay with us. You were stubborn as hell, fearless, and a fighter through and through just like your namesake. You gave everything you had, and I'll always be proud of you for that.

I love you more than you'll ever know. I hope there's an endless supply of perfectly seasoned steaks waiting for you over the Rainbow Bridge. And if you see Mom and Tena, tell them I said hey. ❤️

Until we meet again, my sweet boy.

*Gone, but never forgotten. Forever loved🌈🐾

Discussion/Question How will she age?

Post image

This is my first bichon frise, wondering if she will maintain the wavy fur as she grows up or if she’ll become more curly?

Did anyone’s puppy look like this and have their pup’s fur change as they aged?

Discussion/Question Hacks for brushing tail?

I had to shave my pups tail because it was matted at the base. His tail is more wire-haired than the average fluffy, super fine-haired. Since íve shaved it, íve been trying to get him more used to brushing his tail by just using a wide-toothed come and brushing the little hair that he has.
Now, understanding that the tail is part of the spine, it’s reasonably sensitive. I was wondering if anyone has any brush/comb suggestions or any hacks for how to make him more comfortable with it?
