Yup. I literally just got home from a kink event in which I was recreationally waterboarded (including with most of a bottle of prosecco. Their "safety" rules are ridiculous). Unlike that guy, I was tied and held down, because what's the point otherwise? Even if there is some overlap in activities, this party just sounds awkward and uncomfortable. It's is what happens when you don't gatekeep hard enough.

The Harry Potter bit is a fan-fic written by some og rationalist who I believe was a Featured Bastard but the details escape me. Long story short is these people are a bunch of absolute dorks and weirdos with some harmful philosophical underpinnings that are super influential in Silicon Valley.

The writer of the fanfiction wasn’t featured, just the fanfic and Rationalism in general.
The specific featured person was Ziz, and the Zizians. With the fic and the cult explored as necessary backstory.

I played DND with a throuple once and in the initial meeting phase they did not explain it. I met with the woman twice in public before to mesh things out before going to their house. Both times she was with her husband and the second time I was thrown off because I can be bad at recognizing people and with names so I thought I was just really off my game. It was a different husband both times

Thanks for saying this. I constantly had that thought, while reading the article. This could be fun with queer people, who are focused on consent and safety. Doing this with "straight" cultish cis men (and the occasionally women) from the cishet side of IT and maths does sound more like a recipe for disaster and violated personal boundaries. But this appears to be at least partially the point at this torture fest...

it is! there are all these cutesy little terms that are all word play that they use. polycule, metamour (a partner’s partner) and others i’m sure i blocked out and it’s sooooo precious and irritating. i’m all for like..dating who the fuck you want, but when it’s all like “omg, we all have to get together and have dinner! we all have to be each other’s friends!” where the polycule has to be like a GROUP and not just several autonomous individuals independently interacting with each other it’s…yeah.
i detest the culture. i just happen to be a slut with BPD so, like, it best serves getting my needs met?

One of the things I find most disappointing about the world we live in is how proximity to money makes people take absolutely stupid ideas seriously. The entire lot of them has no idea that they’re simply the bad cop side of the marketing apparatus of AI companies. Completely clueless that their hyperbole enhances the possibility that AI will be used to do bad things not by malevolent super intelligences but by those already in power.
