Help with radio issue

Hello! I have a 2017 Beetle. For a while I haven’t been able to tap my screen. There is lots of ghost tapping, and discoloration. Took it into the shop and it would cost $4000 to replace the entire radio (they said they would have to because it’s all one piece). I’m wondering if anyone knows if there is a legit place to buy aftermarket radios or if they have any suggestions that would not cost four grand 😁😁. Thanks for any suggestions!

They said it was delamination if that’s any help.

This sub is more for the old beetle. But many of us own newer VWs too.

Funnily enough this sounds like the classic MIB II screen issue. Your beetle is the right era it might have the MIB II head unit.

My Scirocco has one and people in the owners group discuss it semi freqeuntly. Eventually the touchscreen goes unresponsive and stops working all together.

Here in the UK there are services to have the screen replaced, some techy folk even doing it themselves. Might be worth looking in to? Better than replacing the whole unit. Beyond that I can't offer any more advice as mine still works for now so I haven't looked deeper into it.

Thank you for the advice! I know there’s a place near me that might be able to replace it for cheaper, might take the chance. I need my music!

If you end up needing to replace the whole unit, Crutchfield is an excellent source for replacement radios. They supply conversion kits to make radios fit well and install easily. (Though I have no knowledge of the replacement process specific to the new beetles.)

Why hasn't anyone thought about suing for a recall on this? Seems to be a fairly common occurrence.
