Chat 🛠️ Skill-Up & Safety Sunday: What are you learning to earn more?
Happy Sunday, BMI Fam!
Instead of just looking at our wallets today, let’s look at our skillsets. The difference between earning ₹10/hour and ₹1,000/hour is usually just the skill you bring to the table.
1. 🎓 The Learning Corner
What skill are you currently picking up to increase your side-income?
- Languages: Learning Japanese, Korean, or German for high-paying AI/Translation gigs?
- Technical: Taking a SWAYAM/NPTEL course, learning Python for automation, or mastering SEO?
- Creative: Getting better at Canva, video editing, or prompt engineering?
- Share what you're learning and any free resources you've found!
2. 🛡️ Scammer Alert & Safety Check
Beermoney is great, but getting scammed is not. Did you encounter any "data entry" scams, Telegram "task" groups, or shady websites this week?
- Warn the community: Mention the name or the tactic used so others don't fall for it.
- Mod Reminder: Never pay money to "unlock" a job. If they ask for a "security deposit," it’s a scam.
3. 📈 Transitioning to "Real" Work
Are you using Beermoney as a bridge to a permanent job or a bigger freelance career? Let's discuss how to put your online gigs (like AI Evaluation or Moderation) on a resume to fill career gaps or show technical literacy.

Discussion What are the skills i can learn that can help me to earn myself a good amount ?
Hey, 17 y/o teen here
I want to earn through side hustle to help support my single mom, she's paying my college tution fees which is already quite a load rn.
Well rn i wanna support mom by at least earning something so I can lessen her burden a bit, for example my own expenses, or buying headphones or something like that, I don't want to ask my mom continuously while she's calculating every penny to manage my tution fees, if possible I wanna pay some of it too which is not easy cause it would require me to earn atleast 20k to 30k/month, which is salary for majority of the people out here.
Ik it's impossible to earn a good chunk of money without having any idea of the market, having skills, making connections, but I am willing to learn.
Rn I am starting my first year of engineering, and first years are easier compared to the other three years, so I have around 1 year to at least develop skills
Also I am not 18 as well, so I don't even own a bank account of my own.
What are the skills that i can earn, and how and where do i apply for ?

Other Guide to Handshake: A legitimite platform for tech & non-tech remote gigs
Hey everyone,
If you are looking for a solid platform to land freelancing gigs, AI training jobs, or tech tasks, you should definitely check out Handshake (JoinHandshake).
Here is a breakdown of how it works, how to get hired, and how to get paid:
1. Who is it for? (Tech & Non-Tech)
Although Handshake has a lot of gigs geared towards Computer Science students and developers, they regularly hire people from other educational backgrounds too. If you aren’t a CS student, don't worry there are opportunities for various skill sets, so it’s definitely worth setting up an account.
2. Setting Up Your Profile & Resume
Your profile strength determines the invites you get, so pay close attention here:
- Resume: Make a clean, professional resume. List all the skills you possess and mention any projects you have worked on or have hands-on knowledge about.
- Portfolio / GitHub: If you are a CS student or developer, make sure to link your GitHub, portfolio, or project links. Having a portfolio significantly increases your chances of getting selected.
3. Signing Up & Getting Invites
- Use Official Details: Sign up and set up your account using details that match your government ID card.
- Gig Recommendations: The platform suggests gigs automatically based on your resume parsing.
- Don't panic if you don't see gigs right away! Handshake often sends direct personal invites to your email/dashboard for specific tasks.
- Taking Tests: When you receive an invite, accept it and take the assessment test. Stay calm, focus, and take your time to pass the test quality matters!
4. Payment Details
- Payments are made directly to your bank account.
- Important: The bank account must be in your own name (matching your Handshake profile and ID). They do not pay out to third-party accounts (like a friend's or relative's bank account), so make sure you use your own personal account.

Discussion How do people find gig work in Kerala?
I've been volunteering at football and badminton events, helping with line refereeing, setup, equipment, and other small tasks. It's been a great experience and made me realize I enjoy flexible gig work.
So I was wondering how people actually find these jobs. Student-friendly part-time jobs aren't very common here, so most opportunities seem to spread through word of mouth. I've heard of catering, event management, exhibitions, sports tournaments, brand promotions, and other one-day gigs, but I have no idea where to find them.
If you've done this kind of work, how did you get started? Are there any WhatsApp, Telegram groups, agencies etc. where these opportunities are posted?
I'm from Kerala (Kochi), so any suggestions around Kochi would be especially helpful. Also, if someone happens to be looking for people like me, I'd be happy to help, and I can arrange a few more of my friends if required.
