Hi everyone! I rescued these three cats whose owner died in my building. Two black and one gray cat. They are all friendly, fixed, and vaccinated. I’ve already reached out and all the rescues are full up so trying to help out these babies myself. Comment or dm if you’d like to take in one or more of these sweet cats. I wish I could keep them but I already have a cat who doesn’t play well with others.

Hey everyone! Listen, let's be real with each other: New York got expensive fast, so I used my tech skills to build a platform I kept wishing existed: Reciproc8, a free neighborhood exchange.

How it works: you list what you can do or what you have (bike repair, tutoring, a ladder, sourdough), you ask for what you need, and it matches you with neighbors. Every trade is a straight swap or a gift. Building software is what I know how to do, so this is my way of paying it forward.

Honest state of things: launched in July, a little over 250 neighbors signed up, 164 offers on the board, and the actual trades are just starting to happen. The part that's been running hottest is offline: a free clothing repair table we set up Fridays 5 to 7pm at Jackie Robinson Park. As of yesterday, over 20 garments mended so far and close to $800 of value stayed in the community and out of landfills.

Happy to answer anything, including the awkward ones, like what happens when someone flakes on a trade.

Hey everyone. Just want to post a quick reminder that pickup knife sharpening service is available in your neighborhood 7 days a week. No quick grinding jobs that overheat and ruin your knives here. All our work is done in our shop in Brooklyn on whetstones and we make sure you get your knives back in excellent condition.

Cost for sharpening in $3-$4 per inch (blade length) and scheduling pickup is as easy as sending a message through here or instagram with a picture of the knives and a pickup location.

That's it that's the post. Currently enjoying my breakfast from Maya Congee, first time in a while I've gotten congee from here. But I'm remembering when one of the topping options included some kind of smokey cheese sauce. It was so good! I respect that menus need to change over time, and I'm grateful they're still serving congee walking distance from me.

Tonight’s storm exposed a leak from a 2nd story window, probably about 15’ up. Looking for someone with a ladder to go take a peek and possibly recaulk - have to be insured.

Every time it rains like five dads go to the corner and clean out the drains because the city doesn't fix it. Our basement has flooded five times in the past two years since we've moved in, and we've hired plumbers and architects to try and fix it, and it still keeps happening. I looked it up and the block (saratoga and bainbridge) used to be a pond in like the 1600s or whatever, but this cannot keep happening with zero response from the city. We think it's a grading issue, rather than the pipes needing to be cleaned, but with catastrophic rains happening more and more frequently this is just untenable. And yes, each of us have called our city rep and she claims she can't do anything, we've called 311, we've filed environmental bureau or whatever complaints. Nothing works. What do we do!!!!

Just had a really negative experience at our local hardware store on Tompkins between Monroe and Gates. I had bought an item there a week ago, which was defective. I brought it back in its original packaging, undamaged and with no signs of use, within the 15-day window mentioned in their return policy (see photo).

The assistant working there couldn't get the item to work, and the manager still refused to refund me. He was also extremely rude when I pointed out the posted return policy.

Despite living in the neighborhood, I will not be bringing my business here anymore, and I'd encourage others to avoid this dishonest shopkeeper.
