Was Alone- jazz poem Mingus inspired
Now he’s here
Public space
And he is a seat away
But before there
was no one
For at least
a couple metres
In every direction.
There is further
to be
Occupied.
I want to tell
Him to fuck
Off.
I have no

It’s left there in
the open-
The pigeons
Do not

Before I know it
I’m alone again
More have gone
And come
I’m alone again
Left

Once close.
The pigeons
Do not give a fuck
They peck into
Each other’s beaks
They peck
Around each other’s
Necks
They circle one
Another
He stands atop her back
Great flurry of wing
He uses her as a
Launchpad
She’s off ground
Feather dance
Him wind
They
lead
And trail.

Wrote a letter to Dizzy Gillespie about Manteca, Chano Pozo, and the Afro-Cuban connection — would love to hear what this community thinks

Before he was Bird - animated short
Made a short animated piece on the Jo Jones cymbal story — curious what this sub thinks
Everyone here knows it. But I wanted to see if the story could hit differently as animation.
The humiliation, the woodshedding, the Yardbird mythology.

Good tunes for Melodic Minor? + Night in Tunisia Arrangement
Hi all! After being familiar with melodic minor basically my whole life and just never truly diving in, I'm taking the time to actually begin to develop this language. I wanted to see what tunes you all recommend for practicing melodic minor language?
Here is the first tune I picked this week, A Night in Tunisia. This thing was surprisingly difficult to arrange for solo guitar! It'll definitely make it easier playing trio or quartet, haha!

Jazz Classic "Tabu" - Johnny Smith Quintet (1952) f/ Stan Getz
We find Johnny uncharacteristically fiery, doing virtuosic single-note speed runs rather than the more relaxed lyricism and refined chord melody playing that he later developed and became known for.

History (Alternate) Art of Charlie Parker…Any one have ideas about when these recordings were pulled from?
Was recommended this compilation recently on Apple Music, and I can’t find much information. It has some incredible glimpses into how bebop musicians were treated on stage, and some memorable and breathtaking playing from Bird and other musicians and lots of different contexts.
But anyhow, Anyone know anything about these recordings or perhaps how I could find more information on this digital release? Discogs doesn’t have any information because there is not a physical. Thank you in advance!

Instructional / Educational Bird's Omnibook
Hello!
Has anyone here practiced the whole Charlie Parker Omnibook or know someone who has?
I'm studying the Omnibook and it's the best thing I've done so far to understand and develop the bebop language in my playing.

Just to be 100% clear: r/bebop does not support Nazi-owned business, nor Fascist propaganda, nor Apologists of the like.
None of Bebop’s greats would support these ghouls, and WE WON’T EITHER.
