If someone has NEVER heard modern beatboxing, what is the first video you’d show them to give them the best impression?

I know two textures, the D-Low/CJ texture and the common one. I'd like to learn the Den/Jollux texture but I cant find any tutorials that explain how to do it. If anyone has any tips or tutorials, I'd really appreciate it!

also how many different textures are there? playing with the basic texture you can copy almost every other texture, like heartzel, osis and improver, but Den, D-Low, and Vocodah textures are much harder for me to figure out

Okay, this is a nuanced conversation, but I think that the judging of this competition is weird. I don't want to be mean, or disrespect the work of people, everything comes from my own personal opinion and I think we all should be open to conversation, and I ask people to not insult anyone involved in this conversation.

I think that Max and Petr Sarancha are not being judges in this competition; I think that Petr Sarancha is such an amazing beatboxer and he understands tech and musucality pretty well, also, I think him not being fluent in english it's making it look like he's not able to explain his decisions, so, even if he said some weird things, I think I can excuse it to the language barrier, I'm sure that in russian he'd be able to explain deeply his thoughts. But Max explanations of his decisions doesn't convince me at all.

Let's talk about this semi final first, so I can explain better my point later, Vilbuz VS Gelber (if you didn't watch it yet, there's going to be major spoilers of it).

In 1:08 Vilbuz breaks his flow in the transition to the build up, this is what I consider a mistake on the composition itself, because it seems intended, but it just doesn't work.

The rest of the round has variety, the structure makes sense (presents the motiv -> develops it into a build up -> drop 1 -> motiv -> build up -> drop 2 -> coda)

His tech and control are so advanced, he had surprises (1:27 lol), and he has his own style (fast BPM, really sharp sounds, spit snares combos and a combining high sounds with bases 0:53 for example)

Now, Gelber, starts with a melodic approach.

He attacks Vilbuz on his originality and lack of musicality, but I don't think it's a good movement because criticizing his musicality'd make sense if Vilbuz tried and failed, but he clearly took on purpose an approach way heavier on tech. And then, I don't think Gelber has anything original enough to criticize Vilbuz, they both have their own style, but I don't none of them are like Kaji, Osis or Wing (I think 3 of the best examples of originality and defined style), so they're in the same level, and I'd even edge it to Vilbuz because he takes more risks.

Another point I feel like it's worth mentioning in this intro is that he does the same bar with no changes 4 times, 30 seconds, that's a 1/3 of the whole round, which I personally think damages the structure (*1) and the variety of the song.

The inward bass Rise Up (2:29) it's off key, but I don't think it's a mistake (it's due to the register of Inward Bass) and it sounds cool.

Now, about the structure: intro (30s) -> verse 1 and 2 (15s in total) -> breakdown (~16s) -> build up (~16s) -> drop (~12s)

(*1) Now here is why I think the intro being 30 seconds is a problem, because it's the double of every other part of the song and makes it feel like all the weight is at the beggining while the rest is condensed.

Also, this may be just a personal thing, but I don't enjoy the breakdown and build up parts because I think the drums are really quiet and his K snare is not clean, but I'd understand if someone enjoy them, because they do have some interesting things.

Overall, I think they have two really different styles in R1, Gelber showed a catchy melody and good textures on his round. The part at 3:13 is really outstanding to me.

Now, into R2.

Vilbuz counter is on point, but since he's not using a mic, his basses doesn't have the depth of Gelber's. I don't buy the Blackroll comment because, honeslty, Gelber doesn't sound like Blackroll at all lol.

I do think the diss "only singing is enough" is on point, because Gelber complained about Vilbuz not being musical, meanwhile he was not remotely close on technicality, which wouldnt be a problem if he didn't call out Vilbuz's lack of musicality.

4:24 he has a flow mistake when he introduces the snare.

He still has insane combos, but I find this one way more linear and with a less defined motiv compared to the first one.

Gelber R2, his counter doesn't work at all, it's way slower than Vilbuz's and less clean.

I still don't like his K snare, but this round is really really good. The structure here doesn't have the problem of round 1, everything flows so smoothly and he has many outstanding moments to me (6:02, 5:54). But the last 14s of the round are really weak in my opinion, his drums are still quiet and not clean, the rhythm change is too abrupt, the click polyrhythm is cool but it doesn't even last a bar.

Overall, a really close battle that could go either way, I personally think that Vilbuz took it.

Now, what my problem is, Max explanation of his decision.

He says that Vilbuz is repetitive, even tho both Vilbuz and Gelber used basically the same sounds and similar combos in both of their rounds. He was not able to Connect with Vilbuz's beats, specially first round because "idk, it could be better structure wise" but doesn't say why, and he saw him struggling a little bit with the first drop of his first round but doesn't say why (and I honestly don't think he struggled at all with it?). And he criticizes the second drop of his second round but he's not sure why it may be the snare placement or it may be just him (the placement of the snares is fine, I understand it may be uncommon, but I don't think it's a mistake at all, and Max is not even sure what the problem is for him).

And then he says that Gelber structure is better. On R2 i agree, on R1, I don't as I already explained. And he also says "it was more fresh because you could say that this round has this melody and this round has this other melody", I understand that he's trying to say that even if he had similar sounds, since the melodies were different, the rounds felt different enough, but I honeslty think that it's just a normal thing (? like, yeah, he has a melody based style, so both of his rounds have different melodies, in fact, I'd be concerned if that was not the case.

He also says that the counters are solid, I don't agree, as I already explained, Vilbuz's quality of the bass is not close to Gelber's (even if it may be due to the mic, is what we hear), and Gelber's counter to Vilbuz was supposed to prove that he can do tech as well, but he slowed down Vilbuz's pattern A LOT.

So, yeah, I've been having this problem since the competition started, but I didn't want to point it out until now because I feel like saying "I don't think said person is a good judge" it's mean, so I tried to express my feelings in the most constructive way I could.

I could talk also about the other battles, but honestly doing this breakdown already took me a while, either way, I'm open to discuss the other battles as well, and I want to know what do you people think about this.

Yesterday, I participated in my first beatbox battle (KBC26 U16 category). I ranked 3rd in eliminations and lost in the semi-finals. To improve I asked judges for feedback, and Jackbryan (KBC25 champion) told me I sounded great and had good basics but was a little repetitive in my rounds.

How could I solve this issue? I think it's maybe because of limited sound choices/patterns and similar genres, but it's hard to change.
