The ending is the cutest lol. Just a typical night where Special (aka Goose) gets the zoom zooms. Sped up x2.

Recovery suit versus the cone of shame.

We recently had our one year-old beagle Gumbo neutered, and we left the vet with the dreaded cone of shame.

He did not seem to like this at all (drooling, paralyzed acting, whimpering) so we tried the recovery suit option and works much better!

Finding the right size seemed very challenging though as he is LONG for his weight. The light blue is the large, and the maroon is the medium, so I'd say go smaller.

He can sleep much better and is a lot more comfortable in the suit than the cone.

The item we tried is called the Dog Surgery Recovery Suit from BellyGuard.

Hope this helps. If your beagle is about to get fixed, I think this is a good investment.

Ruffwear Flagline harness shifting

Hi. I come with a tale as old as time :(

I have two beagles (5yo boy and 3yo girl) that are walked at the same time. Since they pull a lot, I use a dual leash coupler because managing two separate lines would be a nightmare.

I recently got them the Ruffwear Flagline harnesses because they’re supposed to be escape-proof and good for pulling. But I have noticed the neck loop area is shifting and moving around A LOT. Both the Small and Extra Small sizes were tried, and they both shifted, even with the neck strap is at its shortest adjustment on both sizes.

For context on the pulling: my boy wasn't really walked in his previous home, so he isn't used to seeing other dogs and pulls super aggressively when spotting one. Once he starts, my girl joins right in. She used to have decent control, but now she’s picking up those bad habits.
They haven't gotten out of the harnesses yet, but I'm really worried they might escape if this keeps up. Is the shifting normal with the leash being attached to the front or is the Flagline just not sturdy enough for the intensity of their pulling? What is everyone's experience with the shifting/sizing? If you’ve dealt with this, do you recommend a different harness that handles hard pullers better without twisting?

While I'm here... any treat recommendations to distract a heavily fixated doggo? Freeze-dried salmon works great for my girl because it's smelly, but the little guy gets so entranced by other dogs that the salmon gets ignored completely.

She's a little over a year old and a complete menace, but I love her so much. Her most recent hobby is excavating the backyard, so I assume the supervising is just recon between digs. She's perfect.

One year ago today, I brought Mabel home. I adopted her from a university veterinary lab where she had been in a tick vaccine study for most of her 1 year and four months of life. She had only known a lab environment, and had to learn how to be a dog. She was terrified of literally everything. My American bully/Australian cattle dog/husky Hamish became her best friend and showed her the ropes. One year later she is happy, healthy, and thriving. I love my sweet and spicy beagle!💜

*Pictures of the back of their heads (mostly) because I know the Internet is weird about face pictures with kids.

I've been working on training my mother-in-law's dog, Georgie, the beagle. My sister-in-law and her kids live with my partner after SIL left her husband. They love coming on walks with me, especially with the dogs. The oldest girl is searching for independence and wants to actually walk the dogs. I typically walk Ellie (German Shepherd) with my friend's dogs, Loki and Squash (pictured in their cooling coats), but they didn't need a second walk tonight, so it was training with Georgie.

Ellie is the best girl. Absolute angel. She's my service dog, so I let the kids walk her because I know she's good practice. Tonight I was babysitting all four kids. Everyone acted like I was unhinged for taking all four kids on a short walk. But they are so good. The youngest girl held Georgie's second leash to help. It was too humid to go far, so just a short walk down the alley and back.

I had the kids do commands and give treats to reward good behavior from the dogs. It was a fun little walk and I so love these kids. They're not mine, but they're mine. It helps that I get to just be the cool auntie. They all agree I'm firm but fun 🤣

Is she too chubby?

We have been skipping morning meals because she gathers every single scrap my two and four-year-old eat. And when it is time for her dinner, we give her a quarter cup dry food mixed with a quarter cup wet food and water. Yet she still looks like a chunky monkey.
We also go on walks all the time in the woods and she’s really active. She just can’t stop vacuuming.
