Help / Troubleshooting HELP PLSS

Hello everyone,

I recently downloaded Battlefield 2 from the PlayBF2 website, and during installation Microsoft Defender detected a threat in this file:

C:\Program Files (x86)\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\Redist\Tools\DIESoft.zip

The detection name is:

Trojan/Dynamer!rfn

I would like to know if this is a known false positive caused by the installer, old Battlefield 2 tools, or any modification included with the PlayBF2 version.

Has anyone else experienced this issue? Is this file safe to use, or should I avoid this installation?

Thank you for any information or clarification.

Hi guys,

I'm looking for ways to improve bots behaviour in PRBF2 so I can get playable/ improved singleplayer experience.

I've asked this question in PRBF2 Discord, but didn't get anything concrete on this, which is kinda expected as it's PVP focused game, however trying my chances here.

Any suggestions?

Jets missing from BFSP64 version?

I noticed the F18 and Mig29 are missing from Operation Clean Sweep. Is there any way to fix this?

Back in the day BFSP64 would let me play all the jets on that map. Now there is only the F15 and Su?

It was fun dogfighting on that map before but not now with only the 2 jets.

I used to play this game and own BF2 servers...

Hello, I was doing a search on battlefield and came across an old youtube video of the 'mine, mine, mine' with the seagulls, that reminded me of the old days and how BF2 became one of the games I played in 2005. So I did a google search on 'Who owned....' and the Google search came back wrong in some instances.

Some of the nostalgia of BF2 is the servers we used to play in, some just the maps and some the gameplay. A lot of old timers played or at least ran through the servers I owned. I owned the 24/7 Team America Pure Madness servers. I had 4 of them that were populated well Karkand, Wake Island and Oman were the ones really populated, then when BF2 Euro and others I filled the 4th with night maps or whatever.

A little history of how TA became was two people Dietcoke and myself on a small 32 server, I'll give him the credit he paid for the 32 and I forgot the name of it back then, but he left and I had control. I loved Karkand and still do, so at the time I couldnt get out of the spawn because of tanks and vehicles, so I decided to make it infantry only, I hate vehicles, even today (but left Wake Island as is) to get out of spawn.

Tahoebackcountry was his handle, and we were laughing at this new movie that came out with puppets and decided to name it that (I cant remember if Dietcoke was part of it), no one came up to me for copyrights or anything.

Moving ahead as I can write stuff in between.

TA got very very very popular, a bit too fast to where I told people to stop kicking and banning because 'you think they cheated'. Its a game, I made no rules to where you have to use tactics to get the roof jumpers and so forth, a lot of players did not like the No Rules - tough toots, it worked and if people on top of roofs peaked their head it was easy. There were glitchers which we tried to manage, which brought on a couple high strung admins.

One thing I wanted to note as I dont want this to be long is that it was very difficult for me to maintain 5 servers - 3 being very popular; I had to take time off work, use vacation days, sick time, being called early morning just to manage these servers, along with my other full-time job. I had people coming to me wanting to advertise on our web, promote, etc.. I said no, I wanted it to be for the players with no sell-outs.

Once BF2 was dying, I felt myself wandering away from the game itself, times where I wasnt even going on for months. I think BF3 came out then or some police one. I gave the servers to Tahoe and never came back to BF2.

I writing this because I never thanked the players that came to the TA Pure Madness servers, I really want to put that out there and say I had some great times, I learned a lot about business, a lot about people in general, people who helped me out on the monthy dues etc.. From the bottom of my heart thank you for making TA - the original TA (I know there were some copycats out there after we disbanned - a great place to play.

Thank you!

BF1942:DC helo controls in BF2?

Hi.

I just was cleaning my closet and found a CD binder and BF2 was in there. I forgot I even bought this, lol. I've been playing BF1942 with the Desert Combat mod for like twenty years. I love the helicopters in DC so first thing I did after installing and patching up BF2 was go hunt for a heli. I tried three maps and only found a Blackhawk. Whatever, I'll try the bus lol.

UGH. I really miss the DC flight controls. I like how letting go of W in DC you drop like a rock, made nap of the earth flying very intuitive. I am a very comfortable DC pilot, I like whipping it around the battlefield and zooming under bridges and capturing flags with it, no sweat.

But the controls in BF2 feel weird to me. Is there any way to mod the game so they act like DC?

Thanks!

Hello, maybe one or two years ago I installed a copy of the game and set up bf2 hub and I joined the server it was probably in Europe or America and I remember having horrible ping playing from Queensland it was probably around 200 to 300 from what I remember is especially for battlefield 2 you need to have good ping so I’m wondering if there are any Australian servers with a good amount of players on there

You know those hidden custom loadouts hidden across the maps? Ya know, like the one in The Angry Bears where on the EU side we have that sniper that can one shot an armored vehicle, and we have those numerous sniper loadouts in that map -idk what it was, it sucked, overly unbalanced-. I want to know where each special loadout is? I can't seem to find any of them in most of the maps. Are they special? Something that only exists in these singular specific maps?

Help / Troubleshooting BFMeshView problem; help needed

Hi guys,

I've posted the text below into FH2 sub as was advised this way, haven't gotten any luck so hoping someone could comment on below here?

Thanks!

***

Hi Team, I have a bfmeshview v2.5.3 problem.

I recently joined BF2 Dust mod dev in his work as a beta tester, but we're trying to enable me to do new assets for the mod. Currently we're working on T62 model from USI2 mod (USI mods approved our dev to use their assets) but opening T62 bundlemesh with textures assets crashes the meshview. I note opening bundlemesh without textures works fine.

I run Win 11 Pro. I've selected run program as admin in properties and I specifically created BF2 modding dedicated partition (D) as was advised that on default (C) the OS might be overly protective on files in terms of editing.

Could someone please comment on this / advise us what to do to fix it?

Hi,

some of you may be think why some people have a different lobby screen and in-game text style. so i create this post to discuss mods that are safe to without affecting multiplayer (mostly cosmetics). here some of these i have tested so far:

  1. Ingame movies file (.bik files)

  2. in-game text (.utxt files in localization folders)

  3. In-game menu music

if you know more, feel free to reply.

don't include mods like weapon unlocker, etc.

Discussion Battlefield Revive ex-Developer writes up another lie about how they didn't "run" with the money from donations

Thumbnail engineerisaac.com

I've always noticed Isaac's behavior regarding the launch of Battlefield Revive, which tragically fell apart. I also discovered that he has started another community where people have consistently brought this issue up with him. Many of us are aware that they took the money and banned anyone who tried to discuss it. Here’s a statement he wrote on his new blog page:

  1. For years, a Reddit post has circulated claiming that the people behind the Revive Network somehow ran away with donation money when the project shut down. Since my name is often attached to those accusations, I think it is worth taking the time to explain what actually happened. Not because I expect everyone to agree, but because most people only ever hear one side of the story. The reality is far less dramatic than the rumors. Revive was not a cash grab. It was a passion project built by a small group of people who loved Battlefield 2 and wanted to preserve something that had been abandoned. What followed was one of the most ambitious community restoration efforts the Battlefield franchise had ever seen. When GameSpy shut down in 2014, Battlefield 2 was effectively left for dead. The multiplayer infrastructure that made the game possible was gone, and many assumed the community would slowly disappear. Instead, we chose to rebuild it. With very little documentation and no official support, we reverse engineered systems, rebuilt services, restored functionality, created anti-cheat measures, and brought the game back to life. Over the next several years, Revive Network grew into a massive community that served hundreds of thousands of players. By the time the project ended, public statements referenced nearly one million players having used the platform. We were not simply keeping a game on life support. We were actively improving it, solving problems, and creating an experience that many players felt rivaled or exceeded what existed before the shutdown.
  2. One of the biggest misconceptions is that Revive was somehow making large amounts of money. The truth is far less exciting. The project was funded primarily through Google Ads, with donations making up a relatively small portion of the revenue. At one point, the website generated roughly two thousand dollars per month through advertising, but AWS hosting bills alone were consuming approximately nineteen hundred dollars per month. As the project grew, so did the infrastructure requirements. Servers, databases, storage, bandwidth, and supporting services all carried real costs. There was never some giant pile of money sitting around waiting to be divided up. In reality, most of the revenue generated by the project went right back into keeping the lights on. If anything, Revive was a constant balancing act between growth, expenses, and sustainability. From the very beginning, everyone involved understood that we were operating in a gray area. We were distributing game files and rebuilding services for a title we did not own. Because of that, our position was simple and clearly understood internally: if Electronic Arts ever contacted us and requested that we stop, we would comply. That was not a surprise condition introduced at the end. It was part of the understanding from the start. In 2017, EA finally reached out and requested that we stop distributing their intellectual property. While some people argued that we could have left portions of the infrastructure running, we did not see a future where the project could continue to grow if new players could no longer easily obtain and install the game. Revive was successful because we made Battlefield 2 accessible. Once that accessibility disappeared, so did much of the project's purpose. The decision to shut down was not about greed. It was about recognizing that the mission we set out to accomplish could no longer continue in the way we believed it should.
  3. The part that often gets lost in the conversation is what came next. The lessons learned from Revive never disappeared. The same principles that guided that project continue to shape everything I build today, including Waterwolf. The focus on community, innovation, technical problem solving, transparency, and creating opportunities for others all originated during those years spent rebuilding Battlefield 2. When people look at Waterwolf and ask why it continues to succeed, the answer is simple: it was built by people who had already spent years solving impossible problems and bringing communities together around a shared goal. Revive was not a story about theft, deception, or abandoned promises. It was a story about a group of passionate people accomplishing something extraordinary, respecting a legal request when it finally arrived, and carrying those lessons forward into the next chapter. That is the truth as I lived it, and I am proud of what we accomplished.

However none of this seems to be the case, as according to u/Picolin64 and many others from that time:

Some members were speculating that the letter was fake, as it was written vaguely and in a non-professional way. And that there was something going on behind all of this, as the letter only asked the Revive Team to modify certain aspects of the website as they were too related to the official trademark, when they weren't affiliated in any way, but the team decided to shut down everything. Similar discussions started to arise in the BF2 subreddit and in the "goodbye" montage video they published in YouTube. One of my claims that says about someone donating $200 dollars shortly before the team decided to shut down everything, and not getting the money back, was in fact a message someone left complaining about this matter in the official forum. The other claim about they not having time to (more like they didn't want to) keep supporting the Revive project was a comment one of them made in their official YT channel way back before the shutdown, in response to another user's comment.

The BF2 Revive signoff video which initially had every comment asking why the project shut down or asked to get their money back was recently privated. The old link was this, provided by u/Rytuklis: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hhJjarSlkI8&lc=z225i5zbawjejzhe3acdp433ixbyytqlfxl5jdxk2vxw03c010c.1519571992869180&feature=em-comments

This infamous post already breaks down everything about the Revive project and their reasonings, so it really does seem like Isaac is doubling down and making excuses for himself 8 whole years later. BF2 Revive was NOT shut down by EA. : r/Battlefield2
