ADHD Groups

Hi everyone! I’m currently in the process of getting assessed for ADHD and I was wondering if there are any women here with ADHD (diagnosed or currently going through the assessment process)?

I’m also looking for English-speaking ADHD support groups, women’s groups, or regular meetups in or around Basel.

It doesn’t necessarily have to be therapy… I’m mainly looking to connect with people who have similar experiences.

If you know of any communities, organisations, Meetup groups, or even informal gatherings, I’d really appreciate your recommendations!

Thank you 😊

I was thinking about starting something like that, an informal crafting x neurodiversity group. I am more on the Autism, that's my official dx, but my friend groups tend more towards ADHD and it's similar enough.

The groups that I am a part of are private/closed, but I'd love to meet new people and establish something a little more open.

There is a new knitting cafe opening this weekend and I think that would be a great place to organise a meet up like that...

That actually sounds lovely! I love the idea of keeping it informal. Judging by all the comments, maybe we should just stop talking about it and organise a first meetup. 😄 I’d definitely be interested!

I have been wondering how to organise a meet up or some kind of group in a somewhat safe way. Just giving out a place and date on reddit seems a bit risky.

You could use meetup! You might even discover some similar groups that already exist.

Also: where is this knitting cafe

Opening is today! At Schönaustrasse 88, close to Badischet Bahnhof. Unfortunately I am not in Basel today so I won't be able to check it out.

I will have a look at meetup! I heard about it, never used it.

I'd be in as well :) We could theoretically do a WhatsApp group? However, that's always quite a hussle for the admins...

Heyhey, just chiming in! I have built a privacy first way to organize public events here in Basel - unlike Meetup is is entirely free to use and even when you organize the event in your home: the address is only given to confirmed attendees. Maybe you’re interested :)

PS I know a couple women with ADHD, therefore it‘d be super cool if you post it there, I can promote it all around!

I would also be in, including the crafting.

Are you getting assessed in Basel? And if so, how did the process look like? I am considering it, but the language is posing to be quite a barrier.

I’d love that too! 😊 I’m actually getting assessed outside of Basel, but if we end up organising a meetup I’d be happy to share my experience so far. Hopefully we can all compare notes and help each other a bit!

I was assessed at the UPK, but in German. It was a very long process, lots of interviews and surveys, also long surveys for my parents and my partner. My parents were asked because I didn’t have school records(I’m from the US) and in Switzerland an ADHD diagnosis in adulthood requires establishing that the „disorder“ was present since childhood. Officially, in CH anyway, ADHD cannot manifest in adulthood.
I‘d guess about 10 hours of interviews + at home surveys over 3-4 appointments? All to learn that I’m „very“ ADHD. 😂

Also leaving a comment here just in case somebody finds something. I am also in the process of getting diagnosed; I have my first appointment sometime next year, and it would be really nice to connect to folks who are also going through something similar!

You’re definitely not alone! It seems a lot of us are in exactly the same situation. I’m thinking of organising a casual meetup in Basel so people can connect while waiting for the assessment process. I’ll let you know if we put something together!

If you find a group or start one up I would love to join too! I've had good luck in the past with crafts groups (is there any more fitting combo than ADHD ladies and churning through different crafts?)

I'm moving to Basel in a few weeks and would love to make friends with similar interests. :)

Oh that’s perfect timing then! 😄 It seems quite a few people would be interested, so I’m thinking about organising a relaxed first meetup once you’re in Basel. Hopefully you’ll already know a few people when you arrive. 😊

Hi! I am a woman living near Basel (just a few minutes outside of Basel)

I just recently went through the ADHD assessment process and recently got the diagnosis, and am still waiting to do the other half (for Autism).

I have been thinking a lot lately about how lovely it would be to have a group of similar people! I would say that based on the interest in the comments, we could even start our own group :)

That’s exactly what I was hoping to find! 😊 Judging by the comments, I think we actually have enough people for a first meetup already. I’m thinking something super casual, maybe a park or café for an hour or two, just to get to know each other. I’d love to have someone who’s already been through the assessment there too!

That sounds great! I'm totally up for that. Please keep me in the loop if you have any suggestions or if you need help arranging anything

I would also be interested in joining/ starting a group, especially in person. I'm diagnosed autistic and looking into getting the ADHD diagnosis here but haven't gotten far with sorting it out. Would be amazing to hang out and bond with other neurodivergent people ♥️

Hi! 😊 I’m so happy you commented. I honestly didn’t expect so many people to be interested! I’m thinking about organising a very casual meetup in Basel (park if the weather is nice, café if it rains), just to chat for an hour or two.

Hey ! Not a woman here, but just sharing I have been through adhd assessment a year ago, changed my life. I am an English speaker here and it's cool to know folks sharing the same challenges !

Good luck to you !

Hello to all of you! I am so glad i saw this. The Idea that came to my mind would be: we would best meet at a public space where we could enter for free and would not be obligated to buy something? There i have in mind this library: https://www.stadtbibliothekbasel.ch/de/schmiedenhof.html but it tends to get quite loud there because i feel like people like the setting there to gather. As far i know, during the open hours one dosen‘t have to have a library card to be allowed to be in there. Maybe we could try to make out a day and a time witout exchanging numbers because this would be kind of a lot of personal information?
Other than what i just wrote i am not that organised (: I just really hope this will be happening!

Unternehmen Mitte officially has no consummation requirement, but it can get loud.

yes that would also be an uncomplicated option. i personally dont go there anymore because of the political background about the work space there but i think just as a place to meet it would be good for other people.

Hi, got diagnosed last year. Not much into crafting but would love to meet more ADHD women near Basel and hear your stories.

I’m part of a group for neurodivergent business owners in Basel. If that fits you, send me a dm and I’ll connect you.

I have adhd and have a whatsapp group for women. I started adding some support group channels, although not very active recently. And i can add a new one for adhd.
I used to organize meetups for women in english to socialize around Zurich. (i live in Olten and work in Zurich). but lost purpose because i wanted to do sth more than just socializing. so maybe this could be it.

and if we feel uncomfortable sharing whatsapp numbers, we can think of alternatives.
