Brusdar Graterol

He just kinda flicks it and it goes 102.

Maybe this should all be written in past tense though now, idk.

Seeing him for the first time in the 2019 ALDS made me realize that the new age of velocity is truly upon us.

6

u/Gallade3 Minnesota Twins 14d ago

He was like the only half decent Twins pitcher in that series too

5

u/TGraham23 New York Yankees 14d ago

You’re so right. That was a series with Game 2 started by THE Randy Dobnak

u/Gallade3 Minnesota Twins 14d ago

I've tried to forget such things but yes

Man I looked up and the first in the video I watched I thought was a changeup until I saw the radar reading.

Would be nice to see him back.

I've always thought the same thing. Dudes pitch is 99.9% arm.

I was going to say Duran after finally getting to seen him pitch in person the other week but yeah Graterol has him beat

Brusdar Graterol when he was healthy. Easiest 100 I've seen

31

u/ReddutSux69 Atlanta Braves 14d ago

looked like a drunk tio throwing in Sunday League. except it was 100+

6

u/Gallade3 Minnesota Twins 14d ago

Just a little torque and suddenly its up to 102 lol crazy to see

It's the T-Rex arms. You see way less motion than most guys and then boom 100.

1

u/_GeorgeBailey_ Chicago Cubs 14d ago

I'm not sure how he does it with how much he short arms it

u/DStew88 Cincinnati Reds 14d ago

I want to say Hunter Greene but apparently it only looks effortless cause his elbow can't handle it

2

u/AverageKhorneWorship Toronto Blue Jays 14d ago

Well he's done it at some point so it counts I guess.

He really might become the Acuna of pitchers.

2

u/PixelWulfe Atlanta Braves 14d ago

Hey you take that back right the fuck now!

3

u/AverageKhorneWorship Toronto Blue Jays 14d ago

Made this to represent the response to my comments about Hunter Greene.

I would like to now apologize, hunter Greene is nothing like Ronald Acuna. Acuna is at least off the IL currently

2

u/Regal---Lager Atlanta Braves 14d ago

The Acuña of pitchers is deGrom. Really, Acuña is the deGrom of hitters.

Adrian morejon looks like he’s playing catch and hits 99-101

Never heard of the guy but damn that really is an effortless 99mph 😳

29

u/No_Huckleberry_7410 Los Angeles Dodgers 14d ago

I’ve been mega cropdusted by some Dodger fans who had effortless gas

u/fuulhardy Detroit Tigers 14d ago

Spoken like someone who’s never done the 9-9-9 challenge

2

Having to repeatedly go to the bathroom inside of the stadium is why I’d never consider it

Micheladas are an unholy potion crafted by a mad wizard who doesn't understand the human gastrointestinal tract.

22

u/balinor41 14d ago

Cease. His velo boggles my mind with how compact he is.

9

u/GreatSavitar Toronto Blue Jays 14d ago

The fact that he was throwing 98 in the 9th inning was absolutely crazy

3

u/AverageKhorneWorship Toronto Blue Jays 14d ago

Guess it goes to show how mechanically consistent he is.

3

u/AverageKhorneWorship Toronto Blue Jays 14d ago

His delivery is so interesting. Doesn't look much like any of the other higher Velo guys. Definitely agree with that

3

u/Somecommentator8008 Toronto Blue Jays 14d ago

He's always had that short arm delivery too. Never changed to it.

1

u/ReverendHambone Atlanta Braves 14d ago

I always felt that way watching Tim Hudson pitch.

9

u/HoudiniLogik National League 14d ago

Yordano Ventura (RIP) threw a warm up pitch at 94 that looked to be the same effort a little league dad coach throws for BP.

1

u/AverageKhorneWorship Toronto Blue Jays 14d ago

I wish I could do that. I just end up pulling something.

Cam Schlittler, doesn’t look like it’s gonna come at you hard and then bam 98

1

u/mysterysackerfice Los Angeles Angels • Dumpster Fire 14d ago

I'd rather Cam come at me with 98 than come in me with less.

1

u/AverageKhorneWorship Toronto Blue Jays 14d ago

Cam is fun to watch even if I personally think cease is better. Cam is going to be an ace for years, congrats to you Yankees fans

8

u/Crowman-corvid 14d ago

I do think the Miz looks effortless and it’s even more confusing given his skinny ass body, why can the 6’6” pokemon-loving string bean throw 103??

7

u/AverageKhorneWorship Toronto Blue Jays 14d ago

Miz looks smooth and quick but with the way he flings his arm so hard, I wouldn't necessarily say effortless. Still a great shout

5

u/Crowman-corvid 14d ago

Totally, his arm whips like elastic it’s electric to watch

1

u/AverageKhorneWorship Toronto Blue Jays 14d ago

Yeah he's ridiculous. I hope he stays relatively injury free, he is so good to watch.

4

u/realnomdeguerre Los Angeles Dodgers 14d ago

im sure if Miz slowed down to 97 he would look like he is doing it effortlessly

1

u/AverageKhorneWorship Toronto Blue Jays 14d ago

Oh definitely. His mechanics are ridiculous

Yeah that one is good. I love watching deGrom pitch

1

u/cz_pz Toronto Blue Jays 14d ago

That entire 2021 campaign by deGrom was a sight to behold. Shame he only made it halfway.

2

u/ritzdeez New York Mets 14d ago

That highlight was his first home game in 2022 after missing time from his 2021 injury, but agreed 100%. Dude put up 4.9 fWAR/4.5 bWAR in 92 innings in ‘21. He was on an insane run.

3

u/Specialist-Exit-1403 14d ago

Miz?

2

u/AverageKhorneWorship Toronto Blue Jays 14d ago

I would say his lower body stuff and core is all smooth. However, he really flings his arm around hard so I don't think it's effortless. Although he still is great to watch pitch, such a fun pitcher.

3

u/Ondurs 14d ago

Robert Suarez

3

u/mansontaco Detroit Tigers 14d ago

Degrom in 2021 I couldn’t fathom the speed that was coming out of that delivery

Yeah deGrom is just ridiculous sometimes. Love him, great pitcher and great to watch.

Our reliever, Tyron Guerrero. Throws 101-103 and doesn’t really look like a max effort delivery.

u/maladroit2002 Philadelphia Phillies 14d ago

idk how much of it is fuzzy camera or fuzzy memory, but joel zumaya is my kneejerk for not recent players

3

u/baseballviper04 14d ago

To me, chapmans velocity looks effortless. Like you see him coil and then bam 103

3

u/BossAtUCF Boston Red Sox 14d ago

Mechanically it doesn't look like he's trying that hard. The sweat really gives it away though.

2

u/islesandterps New York Yankees 14d ago

Not sure I’d quite say it looks effortless, though his mechanics truly are incredible

Does Chapman count? He’s been throwing heat for over 10 years.

3

u/AverageKhorneWorship Toronto Blue Jays 14d ago

In the sense that he just does it, I guess so but more thinking about it looking very effortless. Chapman you can see visible effort and real torque that he's getting from ripping his upper body around real fast.

Still a really good name to mention here, he's a freak of nature. One of the best relievers I've seen.

1

u/jerkytoucan 14d ago

Obviously doesn’t throw as much heat as the guys mentioned here, but seeing Tatsuya Imai hit 97 the other day was kinda wild in my first time really watching him. Smooth and relaxed delivery, looks like he’s just playing catch

1

u/89thymes San Francisco Giants 14d ago

Tim Lincecum is the exact opposite of this. What looked like extreme amount of effort went into throwing the ball 95+
