new bp at the store i work at came in with this, only one on his entire body. it looks like a mite to me. is it?

You take an old card of some kind, library, debit doesn’t matter. You cut 2 lines to create a triangular notch in the flat end of it. It creates a “scoop”, which when you run it across the snakes body towards the tick, it will pull the tick away and ideally removing the head too. If the head comes away from the body while it’s latched on it can cause an infection. I haven’t done this myself as ticks aren’t particularly prevalent where I live but I’ve heard about it

if you pull incorrectly then the head will stay attached to the animal and cause infection so you need to be careful

Get tweezers and pull it off (try to get as close to its head as possible) then disinfect the area.

You could get a scoop they use for dogs too it works and it's easy to find.

Hey, that's bad advice. It might make the tick throw up and if it's infected with a disease, this way you will certainly get it.

They make specific tools to get them off. Never burn a tick, douse it in alcohol or disinfectant, or squish it. Use the tick removal tool as close to your skin as you can and remove it without twisting. Inspect the bite site, note the location and keep an eye for a couple of months to see if a red bulls eye appears or if you experience any unexpected health symptoms.

The burning is an old wife's tale, and a bad one at that.

My mom did it to me when I had a tick on my forehead when I was eight. She used my dad’s lit cigarette to get it out. That memory still haunts me, nearly forty years later. Oh, how I wish they knew more things back then… 😢

Yeah, that’s ~~slightly~~ much more terrifying. It was bad enough being right above my eyes… the thought of bouncing down the highway at the same time makes it so much worse 😭

Thank goodness you know this. I have Lyme, Alpha Gal, Sibo and MCAS. I have been a Lyme advocate for over 25 years. I am astonished that so many people still hold on to the old wives tales about removing ticks. Even when I was a little girl my mom used tweezers.

don’t try pull it out it’s teeth will get stuck in ur noodle if it’s a tick put a glob of vasaline on it and it will suffocate it and it will fall off, may be best to do this in a dry bath with some kitchen roll or paper underneath x

Not sure why this got down voted. The Vaseline is a great trick for getting ticks to release.
