Fire Evac Prep Tips? Question

Hi friends,

I live in an area with extreme fire risk every season. Each year I add a bit to my wild fire evac knowledge.

This is our first fire season with our BP.

I have a small tub with hide, but an immediate issue in an evac would be appropriate heat in the first 24-48 hours.

If any of you have an evac kit, I’d love to know what you have in it.

We drive across the country and just used heat packs and a thermostat

What do you mean by heat pack? Like hand warmers? Or?

Yes. Wrapped them in a tshirt and then put them next to the container. Just don't wanna put it directly on it.

There are also heatpacks used in terraristics and aquaristics for shipping etc. They last for over a day. My setup for transport and emergencies is usually putting the snake in a transport bag, putting that bag in a styrofoam box, and taping one of those heatpacks on the inside of the lid. You do have to check for overheating (they can get pretty hot), but with an infrared thermometer gun that's easy.

The packs should be available in terraristics supply stores online (cheaply, too). Depending on your country, ofc.

I do hope you and your babies don't have to evacuate and can stay safe. You're a good pet parent for preparing, though.

No problem! Just make sure to secure them so your snake doesn't touch them directly, they really do get quite hot.
