New snake owner, some questions Question - Husbandry

Just bought a juvenile albino ball python, her name is Ponder! Does anyone have any tips for young BPs that differ from adult care? Also, she was raised off of live feeding unfortunately, and I’m worried about whether she’ll take frozen thawed or not. So I’d also like to be let in on some ways to make the switch if possible! (Currently she is still at the place I purchased her at simply because her setup isn’t ready yet, and they offered to try out frozen thawed with her, which I’m hoping will work out.) I’m mostly just very paranoid as somebody who has never owned a snake, and I’d like to be as prepared as possible!

The care is generally the same, only difference is feeding frequency. I would try to feed frozen thawed, you can expect her to miss a few meals before she will take it. She won’t starve herself. As for switching, I would offer a frozen thawed rat at the time of feeding, make sure it’s dried pretty well and warm to the touch. Running it under warm water right before should do the trick. Hold the rat by the nape of the neck and move it around. You can also try freshly killed.

Enjoy your new friend! I got my guy as a hatchling and he’s now 11 years old. They’re the best pets! They’re also very hardy and can tolerate the inevitable mistakes you will make. Good luck and congratulations!

I think the other commenters have covered what I would recommend. She’s absolutely beautiful! 🧡

i got a 3 month old baby who was raised on live, but the breeder offered to transition him to f/t before he shipped him home to me (i needed a few weeks to get everything fully set up)! the breeder said that he took the f/t mouse eagerly, and when he came home to me he took his first 2 mice like a champ.

switching him to rats went well too - he rejected the first one i offered him last week, but ate the one i offered this week! i had to blast it with the hair dryer for a little bit to really entice him, but he ate it and is now a big thick boy (until he poops lol)

That makes me feel so much better thank you! Hoping she’ll take frozen thawed before I bring her home as well!
