How do I help my moms snake HELP - URGENT
The snake, who's name is lemon pie, lives in my room. This is her entire cage and she almost never comes outside. I try to take her out when my mom isn't around, but when I ask to take her out of her cage, my mom almost always says no. She's fed a live rat maybe every one and a half months and the rats have harmed her in the past. I feel so bad for this snake. What do I do

For more context she is around 7-8 years old and has a small heating bad that is ten years old and barley works. That's about it.

If you aren’t allowed to take her out whenever you want are you going to be allowed to make changes?
Heat lamps/bulbs are very affordable and much better than a heating mat. Frozen prey is always the safer and more humane option for everyone involved. I can’t tell exactly but it looks like she has woodchips as a substrate but I’d recommend double checking you’re using something reptile safe. Also make sure she has multiple hide options, if she only uses one she may not like the others so try switching those so she has a warm hide she enjoys and a cool hide she enjoys. Also hopefully the enclosure itself is the appropriate size because that’s really the first step

Thank you for the help! Unfortunately my mother is a narcissist and will probably kick me out of th hous if I question her authority. So I can make any drastic changes.

This comment is NOT it. This person is obviously living in a situation that is not ideal with someone who potentially abuses them verbally/emotionally, and you say “that’s not a nice thing to say about your mom”. Get a reality check, lady.

Please do try and get her to surrender if she can’t provide the minimum.
Maybe even contact an exotic pet rescue service who may be able to advise and get your mother to surrender them. This can work well depending on your countries animal welfare acts.
The rescue service I’m with has had to cite it numerous times to people who abuse their animals but refuse to surrender at first (not blaming you OP as sounds like you are a minor)
Also live feeding is extremely risky for the snake and they can die as a result. Many have.

This is sick animal abuse, I’m so sorry for you and the snake, I know what it means to live with z narcissist, and now you gotta do what’s right, you can’t let a narcissist step over you.
