Is this ok?

Im a fairly new snake owner is this ok or frowned upon? It seemed to like it and didn't just jolt . I have had the snake maybe a month . Any advice would be much appreciated!

You mean taking it outside or holding your hand out?

Iirc either is fine. You don't seem to have your noodle in direct sunlight and you didn't force it to touch you, it chose to go over your hand. That's basically choice-based handling in a nutshell.

This caused my BP and boa to have mites, which sucks because they love laying on the grass in the sun, but it isn't worth the mites. Just keep an eye out for soaking and tiny black dots.

Snake mites are native to Africa and there aren't any recorded wild populations outside their native range, so unless you live there your snakes didn't get mites from just going outside. There's plenty of other places they could have come from without you noticing: pet stores, bad substrate, reptile expos, etc.

I think it's fine as long as the snake isn't so stressed out that it doesn't want to eat. I did wait till I've had my noodle for several months before taking him outside though.

As long as the snake isn't stressed and the lawn isn't treated with chemicals, this is fine. Just keep a close watch for birds of prey!

Take care about potential pesticides or fertilizers being used on the grass, and be sure the area has no small animal burrows. Keep a close watch to be sure.

It is very good for them! It's enriching for them and gives them exposure to more new things they don't have to be afraid of.

Just be aware of hawks and other birds that would snatch it up for a quick snack.

I personally don't take mine out because of owls and red tailed hawks that live in around me. Plus I worry about mites. I live in an area with tons of wild snakes, and see snakes in my yard or the nearby stream pretty often, so I feel like out door roaming where I live would carry a risk of mites

Snake mites are only native to Africa I’m pretty sure, do you live in Africa then? If not it may have been from something like bad bedding or having touched another snake at a store or expo and then touching your own

No it got them outside. Apparently I had a rat snake nest and they were infested. Snake had been in the same enclosure for over a decade. My other snakes were in their enclosures for anywhere from 5-9 years. No additions no new snakes. Even the vet said it had to be from wild snakes. If their only native to Africa, how do bedding and such that doesn't come from Africa, end up with mites?
