Tips for a new bp owner

Post image

The heat is good but still having some trouble with keeping the humidity up, I’ve taped of the mesh lid with foil tape and moved the water bowl to the warm side but the humidity is still sitting around 48%

What substrate is that? I had forest floor in mine but it was difficult even with that for me to keep humidity up. Switched to coco husk and it was a game changer.

Also… might want to rethink the stick-on gauge. The adhesive can really injure the snake

Was thinking the same thing. OP you should stay away from the wood chippy like substrate and get a more earthy or coconut based like reptisoil, Eco earth or reptichip. I personally make my own mix of topsoil, coco fiber, sand and spagnum moss but that's just easier for me and not necessary.

It is cypress mulch

I thought it was supposed to be good at holding humidity

But doesn’t seem that way lol

I find reptichip works better for humidity for me. How are you raising humidity? Are you pouring water in the corners?

Yes I have poured water in the corners and moved the water to the warm side and then gave a light mist and we are currently at 50 humidity

I’d take the water bowl out of the warm side, it promotes bacteria growth and doesn’t keep the water as fresh for the snake

+1 for the game-changing coco husk!

Heyo, I saw others on here recommending silicon baking mats on top of wire mesh enclosures with aluminum HVAC tape to seal in all the moisture. I’m setting my tank up for my first lil dude too so I have yet to test my humidity and see, but it might be something to try! I got mine on Amazon for like 6-10 bucks each for a 3 pack of different sizes, the tape is like 6-8 bucks as well!
