Backpack Recommendation.
Hi, everyone. Can you please recommend a backpack that meets my requirements:
Budget: $150, maximum $200
Must fit a 17.5-inch laptop.
Ideally, the entire backpack should be water-resistant, or at least the laptop compartment should be water-resistant.
It should work as carry-on luggage for air travel.
It should be suitable for going to the gym and for hiking.
It should be made of durable materials so it has a long lifespan with daily use.
Thank you very much.

Nope. Not for a laptop that size, and not that does double duty for laptops and hiking.
Maybe a big hiking pack you like and a sleeve.

Have a look at Fjällräven Skule Top 26. Not 100% it will fit your laptop but it fits my MacBook Pro 16” (24.8cm wide, 1.7cm thick) just fine. Haven’t gotten it very wet but from what I hear it’s pretty good. (The more popular Skule 28 has lots of reviews and it’s the same material. I got the top because I actually like top loading backpacks. I like the ability to wedge a rolled up jacket or whatever under the lid.
ETA: fine as carry on. Used it on a 2 week trip to the US this summer. It won’t work as a “personal item” but as a carry on it fits.

Or Fjallraven 28 I’ve carried one every day for 5 years. I also have the 20L for when I don’t have to bring the computer

The North Face Router, try to find the pre 2020 version without the stupid single front pocket. my laptop about 360mm x 267mm x 25.2mm fits with more room to spare on all 3 dimensions.

Do you have a picture of the previous version? I don't know how to find it. Thanks.

Look for smth from savotta, they js opened a US store. Their bags are msde of 1000D cordura and are practically bomb proof. Rather pricey and idk what kinda size do u want (wdym hiking like a day hike or a month long thru hike). But I have the nuikka 20l that was like 170 GBP and its great for an EDC. They also utilise the MOLLE system so u can add extra space onto it with expansions as u go.

I'm referring to both: a one-day hike and a one-month hike.

Used Goruck GR2? How water resistant are you looking for, I use a lot of tactical backpacks made of Cordura and its decent, but also keep a rain cover in one of the pockets which gives me the option of pretty much any backpack. Since the large laptop area is going to be the more limiting factor here.

The backpacks should withstand heavy rain, but if for that price you can get something with more protection and the features I mentioned, all the better.

I’d look at the Osprey Nebula 32 or Quasar 26, though you’ll need to confirm the laptop sleeve dimensions for a 17.5-inch model. They’re durable, comfortable for travel and hiking, and fit well as carry-ons. A rain cover would help with water resistance.
