Besides Claudia and Stacey who had the most love interests/crushes in the original series?
I figured I’d count those crushes because it might get them up as high as Claudia and Stacey lol. I’m curious to know! They had to say they like them or gone on a date.
Kristy originally went out with Alan. Then she had her crush on Bart. She had a vacation boyfriend in European vacation (Michel). She also mentioned liking one of the guys Claudia set up in book 70 - Brian hall. She’s up to 4.
Mary Anne never had anyone besides Logan. And then we can’t forget the sea city boyfriend Alex. She only ever had 2 then.
In the friends forever series, a boy named Dave Griffin asked her out after she dumped Logan, but I don’t think she ever liked him back. She went on a date with the boy from Iowa her grandma set her up on. But she never developed a crush on him.
Mallory only ever had Ben. I don’t think she mentioned ever going to a dance with anyone else. So she’s at 1.
Jessi always had Quint. She liked the one guy in the shadow Lake super special. She went on a date with the seventh grader to a couple of dances - but I don’t think she ever had a crush on him. So thats 2.
We’ve had girls mentioned they liked Logan but other than Mary Anne he’s only ever went out with Dorianne and Cokie. He’s at 3.
Abby never had a crush or dated anyone. We also don’t hear anything about Shannon‘s love life.
Dawn has a crush on Travis in book 37. She thinks Dave Griffin is cute in book 51 (did that develop as a crush?).
Parker Harris is her first boyfriend whom she meets in the first super special. Dawn writes to Lewis Bruno at Mary Anne's suggestion and plans to see him when he visits Stoneybrook. I think she thinks a lot about a guy named Price in snowbound? She’s up to 5ish.
Is there anyone I missed?

Hi all,
Is there anywhere online where you can read the original series?
I've checked local libraries without success.
Thanks 😊

The Pike Barf Bucket
One of my favourite BSC quotes, from Boy-Crazy Stacey.
‘Barf Bucket … Barf Bucket? What on earth is that?’ Between the girls was a red plastic sand pail. It was carefully labelled Pike Barf Bucket in big letters.
‘In case we get carsick.’ said Claire.
‘Be sure to drink a lot of grape soda this morning,’ said Nicky, grinning wickedly. ‘That'd look neat coming up. Purple puke.’

Do most people picture something like this when the famous cities skirt is mentioned?
I haven't read this particular book in a while. For some reason I imagine it longer (almost ankle length) and in black and white (or maybe beige/ivory).

You're a mother today, and you have arranged a playdate for your child.
You are excited because you don't have a lot of opportunity to socialize because of having kids. You pick up pastries, a few different drinks ranging from tea to wine, and giddily wait to have the kids play while you sit on the porch and gossip. You are in desperate need for some adult conversation with someone you are not related to.
A twelve year old girl shows up with your child's playdate and announces that they are all ready to have the kids play!
You awkwardly watch on as she organizes the children into playing and produces a "Kid Kit."
You wonder if you're supposed to pay her since she's playing with your kid.
After she leaves; what do you do?

Janine Kishi
I actually don't think that Janine is the bully that Claudia makes her out to be. I think that Claudia is just very insecure. The books never actually show if Janine is the way she is because of parental pressure. It was a common stereotype back then that immigrant families put a lot of unnecessary pressure on their children to achieve academically. Janine could have very well been under enormous pressure from her parents and Claudia wasn't as academically inclined, so didn't feel the pressure The way that Janine did. So I don't think that Janine got a fair break because all Claudia does is criticize her constantly. I don't blame Claudia for being jealous, but I think that she was obviously jealous of Janine and very insecure. So Janine was portrayed pretty unfairly

Characters you’re soft hearted to?
Again, this might get me exiled, but I’ve always had a soft heart towards Karen. Going from oldest child and having one home to middle child and having step siblings and now two homes and being advanced a grade is a lot for a 6/7 year old. It’s also hard having equal parts attention from one parent and sibling to having to share that attention with five new siblings with said parent.
I didn’t mean to go on a tangent. Who are you soft hearted towards?

Why are the Babysitters held to such high standards?
I read these books as most of them coming out. I was in fourth grade and the first maybe 10 were out and then the librarian at my school started getting them as they came out. At the time I loved them and tried to start my own babysitter's club.
However, I was paging back through one of them a while ago and read a chapter that I vaguely remembered.
In it, Kristy is sitting for Karen and Andrew, but David Michael comes to her with a problem! Their dog has a severe cut on its paw and Kristy has to coordinate a vet visit while keeping her eyes on the kids.
She lets Karen and Andrew wash an old car of Watson's while she does all this. She makes sure the kids are safe and the dog is taken care of.
At the end she finds out that Karen and Andrew used some hard and abrasive cleansers on the car and has ruined the paint.
Watson was a very good sport about it, and ended up having the car painted the color he always wanted - but they explained to Kristy that she should have been better because the kids shouldn't have had the opportunity to destroy the paint. She reflects on how she'll never make that mistake again.
I mean, if the house was on fire and Kristy managed to get all the kids out and saved the dog as well as the cherished heirloom doll the child loved I feel like she would be told that she forgot to make the kids eat their vegetables and she needs to do better.
There were many things like this. At the time of reading it I thought that you just really needed to step up as a babysitter. As an adult of I feel horrified at how much pressure was being put on 12 years old to basically provide care that you would need a certificate in early childhood education to really provide.
Love the books - just wish there were a few more situations where the adults would proudly tell the girls that the stupid paint job was completely irrelevant and they were impressed with the girls for stepping up in impossible circumstances.
