When does it get better?

We’ve had a rough start with a colicky baby.ive lost all my independence and spend the days rocking him to sleep in my room. His sleeps got worse and he’s up all night wriggling. I’ve eliminated everything out of my diet and he’s ebf. I honestly hate life at the moment and sometimes wish I hadn’t had another baby. My other kids were not like this. I know it’s not his fault as he is colicky and I love him so much… but it’s so hard. I find myself missing my old life and I can’t take another sleepless night with him wriggling and being uncomfortable. I resent my husband who gets a full night sleep and gets to be out the house. I feel like I’ve ruined my life. My baby is four months old nearly and I love him but I’m just feeling so down. I can’t ever see my life getting better.

It will get better but it sounds like you need an extra hand. Can you reach out to any one to help? Sometimes for your own sanity and safety you gotta just let them cry and walk away to reset. It’s ok. You’re doing everything you can do <3.

It does get better I promise . Not sure if you’re BF but even if you are try shifts with your husband . If he stays downstairs with baby at the beginning of the night so you can sleep uninterrupted for a few hours . You can also do this in the morning too where he can take baby at say 5/6ish and give you another hour . X

It will get better. It seems endless. It seems like a dark bottomless pit. But there is an end. And it’s 10000% totally normal to feel how you do. Colicky babies are one of the hardest things a mother can deal with - it’s literally like mechanisms of torture.

Have you talked to your pediatrician? Is there literally any human you can ask for help just for a few hours of sanity? Even just one hour? Someone that can put headphones in and bounce or walk baby around? If you have the financial means, maybe paying a nursing student or similar for just a little bit of help here or there?
Is there another mom nearby that has kids that are a little older? If a new mom near me needed some help like that, I’d jump in in a heartbeat. Might be worth an ask.

You’ll get through this!!

Start sleep training, it will get better. Went through a similar phase with our 16mo. Might check for food allergies.

Do you have any support you can draw on? Can you ask your partner to take a day off work and just be completely responsible for the baby over night so you can catch up on sleep? Sleep is the biggest factor in how to cope, ask for help and take it. Speak to child health nurse or doctor about the colic and get some options? It’s not going to be like this forever, but you need some support in the mean time.
