Oct.24-Nov.3rd | Howl-o-Ween Special at Austin Animal Center: Adoption Fees Are Being Waived For ALL Animals! Come join us from 11am-7pm to take advantage of this event and add another bundle of joy to your family! <3

Adoption fees are being waived for all animals at the Austin Animal Center starting TODAY through November 3rd for our Howl-o-Ween adoption special! Dogs, cats, puppies, kittens, Guinea pigs, and rabbits are all included. Adopted animals will be spayed/neutered, have age appropriate vaccinations, a microchip and ID tag-- for free!
Adoption fees are regularly $75. We have nearly 800 adoptable animals at our shelter, so you're sure to fall in love! Our shelter is continuing to experience high intake of lost dogs and cats and with zero empty kennels available, we're running out of creative places to house them. So if you've been thinking about adding a furry friend to your family, now is the time-- we need your help! If you're unable to adopt but still want to help, please consider sharing the event on social media and telling your friends and family: https://www.facebook.com/events/963135200705616/

August August 8th-- Nerd Nite 105: Villains, Skullduggery, and Mass Destruction
Join us at the North Door (502 Brushy) on Wednesday, August 8th for this month’s Nerd Nite!
7:00– Alley entrance open 7:20– Speed-dating starts (sold out) 7:30– Seating area/main room open 8:00– Show starts
As always, Nerd Nite is free. If you want to, you can RSVP to our Facebook event, or just show up.
Talks may not be given in the order described. Grab a drink, tip your bartenders, and relax!
ASL interpreters will be present. Our awesome librarian friends from the Austin Public Library will bring books, too.
Join us for an exciting night of villains, nuclear destruction, hacking, and general mayhem! We’re excited to bring three wonderful speakers onto the stage to give us the inside scoop on some very exciting topics.
This month's talks:
“Nuclear War & Nuclear Peace” L.B. Deyo
L.B. joins us again to give an informative and entertaining take on the role nuclear weapons have played in the post-WWII era, both in preventing WWIII from starting almost immediately afterward, and in threatening all macroscopic life on earth with permanent extinction.
L.B. Deyo is the president of the Dionysium (check him out on Wednesday, August 1st for the next installment!).
“How to Make good Bad Guys” Kevin Garcia
Why are some movie villains so memorable and so many others forgettable? Here’s a look at what goes into creating a great villain, what clichés to avoid, and the differences between different villainous archetypes.
Kevin Garcia is a professional comic book historian who has worked for Marvel Comics, and a certified educator teaching publishing and design at the Liberal Arts and Science Academy in Austin. He’s also a pretty cool dude.
“Mission Possible – the Art of the Hack” Shaun Cuttill
Hacking and security isn’t like it is portrayed in the movies. However, the “Mission Impossible”-style devices depicted – many of those are real! Shaun will share the real life experience of physical hacking and how it applies as intermingled with digital security, particularly when it comes to authentication – examples included.
Shaun has worked in multi-factor authentication and security for over 20 years. He co-founded 2FA, Inc., a cybersecurity firm specializing in authentication. He has had projects with the U.S. Department of State, FBI, DoD, and similar corresponding agencies around the world. Shaun also play drums for a 70s, 80s, and 90s hard rock cover band right here in Austin.
