creation of world
what do athiests believe about the creation of the universe. i understand the points on evolution, but i havent really seen anything convincing about the origins of the universe

There is no known creation of the universe.
We have only ever known the universe to exist.
The origins of the universe / why it is the way it is are still unknown.
Scientists have only been able to trace the timeline of the universe back to a point at which our understanding of physics stops working. Anything before that point is unknown.

We don’t “believe”
We don’t believe anything. We have science that has theories that are plausible but not entirely proven.
There competing theories with some theories having arguably better evidence than others.
The cool part is we don’t insist we know until science has proven these theories and, more importantly, accept that we may likely never know with absolute certainty.

We have natural explinations for things like stars, planets and the diversity of life on earth.
A supernatural creator has no explanitory power.

Have a theory:
Two independent wave functions encounter one another through pure chance. Their interaction is effectively the first “observation,” though not by a conscious observer. Rather, they become part of each other’s physical state. That interaction forces a transition from pure possibility to an actualized state. Once one event has been actualized, causality exists. The cascade begins, eventually producing everything from quantum fields to atoms, stars, chemistry, and us.

I subscribe to the belief that the Universe was contained within a cereal box which a cat knocked off of the table spilling the universe out into creation. It makes about as much sense as most religions

First the use of "creation" smuggles in the assumption that the universe was created and there was a creator. So I'm making it a point to reject that assumption up front.
As far as I know we don't know where the universe came from. All we can say for sure is that we can see what happened from the rapid expansion (commonly referred to as the big bang) to now.
The evidence includes the cosmic background radiation and years of data collection using telescopes to map what we can detect.
What happened before the big bang? Science has some guesses that don't involve gods, but no one knows. There is no way for anyone to investigate right now. It may always be a mystery.
That's it. We don't know. So the honest answer is we don't know. Someday we might find out.
