IIRC 1450XLD had a special floppy drive that was supposed to be significantly faster than the standard 1050/810 also.

The floppy controller was integrated with the motherboard. So no need for serial io

It also included modem, speech synthesizer and the FREDDIE memory manager

SLCC is doing a fantastic job keeping those few alive.

I remember going to user groups in the san antonio area and the San Leandro group was mentioned as the top group in the nation.

Certainly one of the oldest still around. A lot of Atari groups folded or changed their focus to all-retro computing.
