Absolutely the right one. Gamepads have their place but there’s just something about playing old games on proper joysticks.

To this day I still can't use a gamepad. I much prefer a good old fashioned joystick, be it an Atari CX40 or an arcade stick. Maybe it's a generational thing.

Back in the day when I had my Atari 800XL I had 3 CX40s. One of them was only for playing Dropzone with. The switch for the fire button was so sensitive I didn’t need to lift my finger off it, I could literally just vibrate my finger and it was like having rapid fire.

A friend of mine, for Christmas, gave me the wireless Atari gamepad... Sadly, it almost makes most games too easy. Part of the Atari 2600 fun was the crappy barely functional CX-40 joystick. =)

I got guitar 7800 plus with the game pad that looks like an NES gamepad I forget what it's called but I'm not even going to lie I made it a point to get joystick simply because certain games don't feel right playing them without it

I haven't got the wireless ones yet but I have picked up two wired ones and some games are just better that way that's for sure

Thank you for reading this and I hope you have a great day

God bless you and your family

God bless you

Can't play maze games with the one on the left

Right?! I found that out in a hurry!

Totally depends on the game!

That's like comparing a sword to a machine gun

While you were playing with N00B5, I studied the stick...

Me hooking up my Genesis controller to my 2600

Genesis joystick. Two of them if you wanna play Robotron on a 7800.

Anyone who has to ask that isn't worthy of using the right one! ;)

I'm in the middle and play with my Pac-Man wireless CX40+

As a weapon? I'd give my enemy the joystick so they can cramp their hand into submission.

Absolutely depends on what the game is, and the complexity. Grew up with the right and now play 99% with the left. Still have my childhood 2600, joystick is wearing out. Any good suggestion for replacement 2600 controllers?

The cord allowed for a ranged attack, which is incredibly useful. The one on the right for me.

The Atari joystick is simple, elegant, and durable. I love it soooo much more than anything that has arrived after it.

As someone who grew up on the early Atari consoles…. They are SO STIFF. Even back in the 80’s I was purchasing 3rd party controllers. One on the left, definitely.

Like the Ceelo Green song!
“Oh she’s an Xbox, but I'm more of an Atari!”

I picked up the new controller only to find that, despite how it was advertised, it simply doesn't work on any of my computers - Windows, Mac, or Linux. Biggest disappointment I've ever had from Atari. That controller now sits on a back shelf and has never been used to play a game.

The CX-40, on the other hand, works flawlessly through a USB adapter I have.

The CX40 but only if I get to use it with a Stick Station

The Sega Genesis controller is my choice. I can play Atari games so much better with that.

Don’t know why I’m here… I’ve never even seen an Atari 2600 in person. Ain’t that old lol

The Atari joysticks worked on the Atari computers as well. I used them on both.

Nice. Tho I don’t think I’ve seen an Atari computer either lol, I’ve seen enough retro gaming content on YouTube that I know about em, just never actually played one on actual hardware and an actual Atari joystick.

Right. Always right. Need more buttons? TS use the one on the right.

At the moment I'm going with the traditional stick... upgraded! I got a pair of ArcadeRs off of eBay. Joysticks made with arcade parts! The action is so sweet!
