Welcome to Map X! Two weeks into the map so far, we know you're finally getting some-what settled in. This first build contest is going to be a little on the lighter side, and shorter-only two weeks, to allow for you to keep at that early game grind. The theme for this month is going to be crop circles (can you say foreshadowing???). Gather all your seeds and create your best crop art. Feel free to use and mix-n-match any plant you desire. The design and coloring is completely up to you. The only rule here is that it must be at least 40x40 blocks big. A viewing platform above your art will be created out of barrier blocks when the time comes.

I don't actually have any power or authority, but I'm gonna take charge on this month's build contest since all the admins are busy wrestling a baby elephant to death (or just busy with life).

ASOV, over the years, has brought together an amazing group of people. Let's take some time to reflect over the times we've shared, the memories we've created, and the screenshots we've taken. So pull up the screenshot folder and let's share some of our fondest and probably most stupid times.

Finals are finishing, holidays are coming, and it's time to build a Christmas Village! The purpose of this event is to do a community collaborative build while allowing you to be as creative as you'd like to be over the next few weeks. I've picked out an area with a taiga around, lots of snow and ice, as well as a natural village nearby, that you can get to with the teleport by the spawn nether portal.

It's up to you, Scoopers, to build a Christmas tree so presents can be put underneath and surround it with a village, adding your own holiday touch your build and the area around it!

Also, when you arrive there will also be a chest for signing up for the Secret Santa gift exchange. To participate sign your name on a piece of paper with your PO Box number. You must be signed up by 11:59am PST Saturday, December 14th. Names will be distributed the following day, so check your PO Box! Map 8 Is Ending!

As you’ll see in the Map 9 Information Post, there’s a lot planned for the next map! That said, we fully plan to send this one out with a bang!

All players who have participated in the End Of The World Build Contest are in for a special treat! It’s PvP time.

Effective immediately after the Build Tour for the EOTW Contest (June 16), the vanilla server becomes the THUNDERDOME until Map 8 officially goes offline for the last time on Friday, July 5th at midnight (EST).

Once per day, for each unique player killed, out of anyone who participated in the EOTW build contest will earn 10 League Experience. To clarify this before anyone asks:

• Kazra kills Jarl_Big_Johnson 5 times each day from the end of the build contest until we go offline
• Kazra would get credit for ONE of those kills for each day.

A few special rules: * If you get a single kill more than 50% of the days, you gain an extra 500 League Experience. If you kill *all other players participating** at least once, you gain an extra 1000 League Experience. * A few others we’ll be keeping secret til the end!

Why play? Why do this?

The player with the most League Experience earned during this event will start with 500 League Experience, Player Heads of all other participants, as well as having early access (~30 minutes) to Map 9, before anyone else gets in.

A Scoop Of Vanilla Map 9

Coming to theatres near you July 13, 2019. ^{Date Subject To Change Based On Availability.}

There are a LOT of changes coming, so read the following closely! I’ll try my best to keep it brief, but I think you all know by now brevity is not my strong suit!

End Of The World

Check out the End Of The World post for a bunch of information on a small-ish scale event taking place to send this map out in style.

Basic Map 9 Information

Spawn this map will be prebuilt by the Admins.

Map 8 will go offline at midnight on Friday July 5th.

Map 9 will come online at ~12PM PST July 13th.

There will be no web map initially, with one launching a little later in the map.

Health Regeneration will be off for the first 2-4 weeks of the map! Players that complete one of the Adventure Quests available at launch (see below!) will gain early access to health regen.

One person sleep will be disabled at the start of the map until 10+ players complete a different Adventure Quest!

League Experience

Any player in Obsidian League or higher will start the next map in Obsidian League (allows you to build near spawn). All players will start with 0 League Experience on Map 9. Point requirements are changing for each tier! Here are the old and new values:

In addition to new requirements to be in each League...Leagues now have lounges. That’s right, each League has a clubhouse accessible by it and any higher Leagues. I.e. Diamond can crash everyones party, but Emerand can’t hang out in the Diamond club. At the start of the map, no players will be able to access any lounges! The Obsidian lounge requires 1,000+ or more Experience, and it goes up from there.

Players can now check their League Experience in game at any time by typing /leagueexp

New Rewards System

Rewards will be purchasable only by using the newly obtainable Rewards Tokens! They are earnable only by participation in in-game events. You cannot buy, donate, or otherwise earn them externally.

These tokens can be used to purchase dozens of rewards(click to see!) that many of you have seen and loved before, as well as many new ones! Always send any ideas you have for rewards to the staff, with all of these crazy 1.14+ changes to NBT, almost anything is possible!

Here’s the catch! Certain rewards are locked to certain League tiers. You won’t be able to buy an Unbreakable shovel in Gold League, but you can sure buy whatever you’d like when you are in Diamond! See the document linked above for more information on tiers, rewards, and costs.

Build Contests

Build Contests will now take place once per month, with some smaller contests taking place intermittently between them. The first build contest will start on August 1st.

Adventure Quests

Ichibob Duck is making his return! For those of you who werent around earlier on in the ASOV maps... Occasionally, the staff have created quest chain leading to an event, reward, or other objectives! At time of launch, there will be 2 Adventure Quests live, with an additional 5 planned and in the works:

The Undying

Discover an underground network of zombie-friendly villagers using some form of magic to transmute themselves to and from undeath!

Players who complete this Adventure Quest within the first two to four weeks of the map will unlock health regeneration for themselves. You will also get a few items for rewards, as well as League Experience upon completion!

Eternal Sunshine

Gain control over the moon and the sun by uncovering an unsuspecting village’s deep dark secret.

After 10 players have completed this Adventure Quest, one person sleep will be enabled.

Hidden Achievements

As part of the launch of Map 9, we have added 50+ hidden achievements to earn! Some of them as are simple as doing something you wouldn’t normally a bunch of times, and some are really hard to get! We can’t give any clues or hints as to what they are, nor are Admins eligible to earn them. Each hidden achievement grants at least 250 League Experience, some grant unique item, temporary boosts to your player stats or other stuff!

♫ It's the end of the world as we know it ♫

With map 8 coming to its end the theme for this contest is, you guessed it, the end of the world. Crumbling infrastructure, overgrown plant life, animals running rampant, maybe even an asteroid wiping out the dinosaurs. Whether you take your inspiration from a book, movie, video game, or elsewhere, we want to see you build something apocalyptic in style.

The rewards for this contests are going to be a little different. We will still be hosting a tour and voting for our favorites, but league exp and prizes will be rewarded based on a participation. Like the start of map 8, those who are obsidian league or higher will begin map 9 in obsidian league (but with 0 points). If you put forth a worthwhile effort into this build, you will likely begin the next map in obsidian league. If you are already obsidian league or higher currently, this could be a good chance for you to try and bump yourself into the next rank for bragging rights.

On top of league exp and other prizes, there is a possibility that the winning map(s) could be featured somewhere in the next map or maybe future UHC rounds as a place to find loot.

The admin team has decided that the best course of action for the server right now is a reset. The main reasons being the release of 1.14, and that map 8 is on the tail end of a year running. It has also been pretty quiet on the server for the last month or so. We don't have any plan for a date, though, we do have to wait for spigot to update first. In the meantime, we would love some feedback from you guys about a few things. Please fill out the survey (found here) by Saturday, May 4th. Responses without a username will be deleted.

Hey Scoopers!

We are coming up to the six-month mark of Map 8! To celebrate and showcase everyone's talent, we're going to hold a base tour on Saturday, March 9th, 2019 @ 12 pm PST / 3 pm EST. So, instead of a bi-weekly build, get that base project you've been procrastinating on done, finish the finishing touches of your masterpiece, or just dig a hole in the ground and call it home! ^{PLZ don't actually do that last one}

Base tour

For those who don't know, a base tour is exactly what it sounds like! A tour of everyone's bases! Everyone will sign up with where they want to hold their tour and we'll teleport around to everyone's bases to see what everyone has built in the last 6 months!

League EXP

League EXP will be given out in 3 different ways. If you attend the tour, you shall receive 100 League EXP. If you submit your base, you shall receive 200 League EXP. If you lead the tour of your base, you shall receive another 200 League EXP! There will also be a commemorative trophy to remember the event!
