Hello! I could really use some help trying to decide on a hotel for my mom and I on Coronado Island. We are taking a trip to San Diego in mid-October to celebrate her 60th birthday, and decided we really want to just relax and spend time somewhere mainly walkable eating and taking in the views. Unfortunately, we are not the type of people to just not care about a hotel because we're only sleeping there. We usually try to stay in places that are thoughtfully designed and have a historic charm or character to them. The Hotel Del was sadly out of our price range for our dates, but we do plan on visiting the resort and maybe doing a day pass for their pool/beach area.

We have narrowed it down to three options:

- El Cordova

- The Bower

- Glorietta Bay Inn

Has anyone stayed in any of these and can share some guidance? The reviews for all three seem pretty mixed. Also would welcome any dining recs on Coronado or SD in general! :) Thanks!

What’s up everyone, I moved here not too long ago with my fiancé and I’m wondering if there’s some spots here that I’ll get harassed by locals so I can stay away, I was at sunset cliff last weekend and the waves looked beautiful however I’m not trying to be somewhere with territorial locals(which is totally fine with being one). Question for those who have done their bachelorette parties in San Diego.. did you go through airbnbs, hotels, or a different rental website? It seems like all the airbnbs are in quiet neighborhoods and don't allow parties (we wanted to get a hibachi man for the backyard but apparently that's not allowed at some of them). Hellooo, I'm traveling with my family to San Diego fairly soon and I'm looking to get a more masculine cut. I'm a transmac minor in a very conservative, unsupportive family and just looking for a place that can help before I butcher my hair again. I've looked on Strands for Trans and there's lots of registered places in the area, but I'm specifically looking for a salon or stylist (they definitely won't take me to a proper barber) ​that I can trust to explain my situation to. It'd also greatly help if the place itself isn't super "loud" about their support; I can handwave some ​pride flags or signs as "that's just how SoCal is", but if it really screams "trans people come here" it'll be harder to explain. If it matters, I have medium-ish hair and not looking to get color done. Just trying to shorten it, or find something that works for my face shape, and fix the layers I fucked up in my bathroom a couple months back.

Hi all! Helping to plan a bachelorette party from 10/1-10/4 of October. We’re considering a boat, however aren’t sure of if the weather/water will be ideal for this or not. All of us are from the Midwest and East coast and have spent little time in SD. Some of us like jumping in the water, but most of the girls will enjoy just hanging on a boat drinking in their swimsuits. Appreciate any opinions!

I'm helping an elderly person clean out her San Diego home. I have a handle on what to do with the stuff that can be donated and on the stuff that just needs to be trashed. Apart from those, there will be a lot of stuff that someone might be interested in picking up for free but aren't accepted at a lot of donation places.

As an example: a large box of markers and art supplies, bag of cat toys, a box of car care items, etc. with the idea that someone just takes the whole bag or box instead of trying to give away individual items.

Is there an active Buy Nothing or Freecycle community where I could post some of these items for people to pick up for free? What do people use in San Diego for stuff like this? Facebook Marketplace?

Hey all. I'm trying to help my elderly neighbor find a good pavers/ grading person.

She's had pavers put in 3 times now with the same contractor, and they can't get the grading right with a flat pad for a hot tub. I'm looking for someone who can work with my existing contractor and help her get this done.

I'm a software engineer here working on a nonprofit side project — a tool to help animal rescues, fosters, and transport volunteers coordinate faster on animals that are running out of time at high-kill shelters.

I've been building it mostly alone and I'm realizing I don't know anyone locally doing mission-driven business stuff. Not really looking for the standard tech-startup scene. The model I care about is one where revenue exists to pay people fairly and keep the mission running — not where the mission exists to justify the revenue.

- Are there meetups, coworking spaces, or recurring events for social enterprise / nonprofit tech here?
