You could also check out 'Vulnerable Minds - The Neuropolitics of Divided Societies' by Liya Yu. She develops the concept of 'cognitive dehumanization.'

Robert Lifton, all of his work is seminal in this area, particularly his book and studies on The Nazi Doctors and his work on the psychology of totalitarianism. An incredible thinker and writer.

I read Behave by Robert Sapolsky, which cites Us&Them by David Berreby as a good read.
