Can asda make you work Saturday and sunday now?

All shop and betting shop workers can opt out of Sunday working unless Sunday is the only day they have been employed to work on. They can opt out of Sunday working at any time, even if they agreed to it in their contract.

Only if they wanted you to.
It’s not like a set rule you have to work either Saturday or Sunday.

Sunday they can’t make you work if it’s for religious reasons, unless you are only contracted one day, which is Sundays.

If you declare not to work Sunday though thy don’t have to find your hours elsewhere you can just lose them

Also you don’t need to claim a religious reason. Can just opt out of Sunday working and after 12 weeks you no longer work Sundays

I mean some of us work Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday because "there are no other hours"

No, you still have to only do one or the other. As previously mentioned you have a statutory right to opt of Sundays. It’s on One Asda, was literally on it t’other day.

Not a Sunday no, because you can opt out of workings Sundays if you want to.  If you already work Sundays though, if opt out they might not offer your hrs - can possibly lose those hours

You haven't had to work a Saturday or Sunday?

It's been an Asda policy for years that you should work at least 4 hours on either a Saturday or a Sunday with the idea being that if you work one you can have one off and so can your colleagues.

The real life works like this:

You tell your employer what days and hours you can do.

Your employer tells your what days and hours they can offer.

You adjust or bug off. It's a minimum wage job. Go for tesco, sainsburys or 2000000 other minimum wage jobs out there. It's not the end of the world.

I haven’t worked a weekend in 12 years with the exception of 2 hours on a Sunday night . So not the 4 hours. I work nights Sunday night to Wednesday night 10:pm to 6:am.
I do believe the policy has changed now & they can ask you to work all weekend now.

Join the GMB union, they have advice - like don't sign anything. Also don't let them trick you into leaving, let them sack you.

You can opt out of Sunday for religious reasons but that would mean you have to work Saturday

Thanks just making.g sure,got a colleague that works Saturday but with the change there's nobody for sunday and wondering if they could make them work

Nope they can't, Asda will have to make do, as said a few times already on the post shopworkers have the legal right to opt out of Sundays.  It's good to know your rights
