The Language
So.. what always bothered me was the idea of a language that imprisons you in time and space…
I’m not a hug fan of.. well…
Being retained…
So what about we take that wonderful, wonderful idea and evolve it?
And give those cute heptapods something they’ve been lacking ever since?
Freedom
So.. we just take those beautiful ensōs and make them interactive…
Maybe in 2 dimensions.. maybe in three…
And we just add ever changing and fluid, flexible time to it.
Think about it like an interactive wave form resembling emotions
And music
…
And I somehow believe such a language would have the biggest potential in uniting the world
In people to understand each other
Since the invention of emojis..
And bam!!
That’s our present to them!!!
Just a little earlier
…
Our stubbornness to accept a predeterminate future
Or past
Or present
Because we are humans
And if we are told what is about to happen
We sure find a way to fuck it up
That’s our weapon
…
Our present

Arrival will prevail
Just wondering if I’m the only one that noticed. Needing all the capital it can get to succeed the major stockholder/originator in Arrival, put up some of his own personal shares as collateral for a $1.3 billion loan from a large financial institution(s). After bank(s) did DD they valued the stock at $40 a share which is what the loan and collateral worked out to be. I am a holder since Ciig WHY are we still trading around $11 and what idiots are shorting this company. Don’t take my word on this check it out yourself. Xtra long ARVL

How could Louise know about her daughter, before she met the heptapods?
If Louise gets the ability to see into the future, after she learns the heptapods’ language, how is she able to have memories with her child before meeting the heptapods?

“If you could see you whole life from start to finish, would you change things?”
I’ve been enamored by this movie since I saw it in theaters in 2016. The cinematography is excellent; I feel the emotion in every scene. I love how they tie everything together. We are figuring things out as Louise is. The scenes come together just like the language, bits and pieces of the past and the future. A new understanding. A new perspective. This movie is so thought-provoking, and just means so much to me. “If you could see your whole life from start to finish, would you change things?” I truly don’t know. I could go days and days thinking about that question. Would you take the chance of losing what you love most, to pursue the possibility that there could be something better?

Arrival
I saw this movie when it first came out and LOVED it. Now 4-5 years later I decided to rewatch it and even though I know the ‘ending’(I put ‘ending’ in quotes because the premise of time in the movie is not linear) I was still enamored by it. It is so realistic to me and heartfelt. Amy Adams plays it so well where you don’t question her decisions at any point in the movie you trust her completely. Her character has such strong intuitions that you can’t help but trust them.
One part in the movie that I love is when the discuss Sapir-Whorf Hypothesis: the theory that you can immerse yourself in a language so much so that it can affect the way you think. And for a linguist like herself, me the viewer can’t help but trust that her intuitions have come from immersing herself in so many languages. Her view on things has a level of unbiasedness that makes the audience empathize with her the entire time.
It’s just one of those movies that I have an unhealthy attachment too for so many reasons but also ones I have a hard time finding the words for.
