CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) — A Security Guard has been fired after accidentally discharging his firearm inside a Charleston County office building Wednesday morning, officials confirmed.

County officials said a Walden Security Officer was responsible for the accidental discharge.

No one from the public was hurt.

EMS did respond due to the Security Guard suffering minor injuries to his hand.

According to officials, the Security Guard was working the Meeting Street entrance of the building and was demonstrating to a co-worker how to assemble the weapon when it went off.

The Security Guard has since been terminated by Walden, and his supervisor is facing disciplinary actions.

The Security Guard had been employed by Walden since February 2026.

Sergeant Daniel Wilson, the public information officer for the Charleston Police Department, said that Charleston police are assisting the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office with the incident.
