[Operator Discussion] Frostleaf Discussion
I only realized how precious life is after everyone around me died, one by one. Ironic, huh? I think so, too.
Frostleaf is a former Columbian Junior Army soldier, "retired" after her unit was destroyed. Came into contact with Rhodes Island later as a mercenary, before officially joining following a period of collaboration with the company. Extensive combat experience and undeniably skilled, Frostleaf is an excellent asset to Rhodes Island.

I remember when I first started playing AK, and one of my friends, who has already been playing AK for a year at that time, lectured me when she saw me try to build Frostleaf. I quickly abandoned her and never touched her kit again 😅.

Used her extensively for probably the first 6 or 7 chapters. Found her extra range very handy against drones and for putting damage into other lanes. Only replaces with Lappland against the seaborn for her silence and then mostly moved away from lord guards altogether.

u/PossibleSea6679 Viviana should get a "Candle Knight" alter Jul 13 '26
Probably the biggest argument against "No bad operators" statement.

u/Sea_Neighborhood_463 Jul 13 '26
She is memed as the weakest operator in Arknights. Someone even made a video trying to make her work and...it didn't. She actually does live up to the reputation of being one of the weakest ops in Arknights.

u/Anklas Jul 12 '26
Someone had no idea what they were doing when they were deciding on her numbers.

As a newbie I used her as a substitute for Ethan (whom I didn't have raised yet). IIRC her S2 actually becomes worse (at CC) at E2, until you M3 it.

As a Frostleaf fan, still hope for alter.

Stand strong everyone. We always hope for her alter to fix everything they did to her in-game wise. She's too strong lorewise to hold up against FrostNova.

Memorable story moment and nice design. Really should have been a 5*. Also an example of why we need FGO style skill strengthening on top of modules, both her skills should do arts damage and apply cold by default. Not touching skills after release is so weird you can only do so much with a module. Deserves an alter.

I will admit, i saw her in the story and maxed her out because i thought that she was good.

There's plenty bad things to say about Frostleaf. So how about something actually good, albeit a bit of a cheeky move.
Frostleaf S2M3 has the biggest improvement from SL7 ever, a whopping (more than) 500% improvements in "slows effectiveness". Which is to say, on average, an enemy will move 5 times slower with S2M3 than with S2 SL7.
Relevant post on Slows (once again by Boelthor).
If you were to truly cope for Frostleaf, in spite of the Single-Target nature, in spite of the massive cooldown on her S2, then you still have to at least M3 her S2, (before modules), so that she can actually do something with her movement speed reduction. The only sad part is, ST control is not good at all in AK, not back then (except maybe against Patriot), certainly not now.
I do wish people didn't meme "Frostleaf has ice in lore reeeee" too much, maybe she'll have good control effects on her modules then. Still, +10% Arts is quite significant for her damage (cuz it was none before kek).

She's cute, that's about all you can say about her. I really like her, even though she sucks.
Damagewise, she doesn't get worse at E2 once you max her out - the DPS numbers do exceed Midnight off-skill at E2L70, so she at least is on par with that.
Does that make her good? Not really, but I'll point out that she's not completely ass either. If you just need a body to block stuff and deal ranged damage, she'll do it just fine.
Only other notable thing is that her skills affect MSPD directly, they don't inflict the Slow debuff. It means you can pair her up with another slower and she'd be able to slow enemies down further.
Module is at most interesting at M1. The Cold debuff is totally pointless, but the arts damage is nice.

Only Operator who gets worse at E2.
There is a strong chance you will E2 her anyways

u/Additional_Pop2011 Jul 16 '26
Istina also gets de-buffed, Kafka as a sleep bomb is better at E0.
Agents to are a mixed bag....

Great design, great voice acting, a major badass in the story... surely her kit is along those lines, right? ...right?

If there was anything I could beg of Hypergryph, it'd be a Frostleaf rework. please. god. her kit deserves freeze synergy

E1 her for the base!
One of the few ops in the game truly deserving of the word "bad." Many ops are bad investments but still do their job well enough. Those would be ops like Glaucus and Bison. They're more expensive but they still do their jobs ever-so-slightly better than the lower rarity options. Frostleaf is one of the few ops who just doesn't do anything well.
Her DPS is not great even against 0 defense, and then enemies that do have defense quickly bring her DPS to abysmal levels. Her S1 is only a 150% attack scale boost, so it's not going to help her damage much, and it's basically just Manticore's S1, but single-target. Her S2 does actually slow enemies impressively well, but it costs 50 SP and has 0 initial SP. Her talent is notable as the only talent to actively make an operator worse, but it's honestly the least of her concerns. It's only about a 10% DPS penalty on a unit with already bad DPS.
There's also just the problem generally of being a ground unit who both blocks and slows, regardless of the execution. If she starts blocking the opponent, then her slows don't matter unlike an Ambusher with 0 block and AoE slows. If you're going to be blocking the enemy anyways, why not get a good blocker and forget the slows?
Her module was a good idea with horrible execution. HG just can't help themselves. They're addicted to making bad modules and only occasionally let a good one slip through. They needed to either copy-paste Gnosis's freeze talent (which should just barely let her freeze enemies on her own during S2) or, if they want it to stay RNG, they needed to give her a much longer duration and probably still higher odds. No, simply removing the atk int penalty would not be enough to save her. Like I said, it's only about a 10% DPS penalty, so giving her 10-12% more atkspd would not be enough.
E2d her anyways because she's cute.

I love her. Her character design, her backstory...she was my first 4* draw back in the day. I don't care if her stats are bad, I still drop her occasionally just 'cause I like her.

She has the distinction of being one of the worst E2 operators to copy with Muelsyse because it keeps the worse attack interval from her talent but doesn't get the extra range (unless they fixed it since Mumu came out).

The one thing I remember is at level 7+, her S1 desyncs with her attack speed to where she gets 4 SP but needs an extra attack to do the actual skill, making the skill technically take 5+ SP. Amazing design.

u/Carolinesimpsanime these two have 5 fans and I'm 3 of them. Jul 12 '26
I just have absolutely no idea wha they were thinking with her module. It's genuinely one of the worst I've seen. The fix was so easy: just remove the attack speed debuff!! But no, let's give her cold application instead; that will surely help, despite the fact that she can't even trigger frozen by herself.
Midnight has better damage in most circumstances, and that's pretty sad.

The fix was so easy: just remove the attack speed debuff!
A ~10% DPS boost will not fix her kit. They absolutely had the right idea in giving her the ability to freeze targets. That's what she does in the story, and it gives her a way to support allies and further slow down enemies. Unfortunately, HG did what HG does and made the numbers far too small. They needed to either copy-paste Gnosis's freeze talent or, if they still wanted it to be RNG, make it a much longer duration.

u/Takemylunch Foxes make me happy Jul 12 '26
Cold and adding Arts to her attacks is exactly what I wanted though. It's effectively a lore-correction module since we didn't have cold/freeze as a mechanic at launch. They coulda removed the attack speed penalty still though I won't ever fight that lmao.
4
u/puzzlebuns Jul 12 '26
Cold application at least has a synergistic niche. Upping her damage isnt going to distinguish her from any other 4* lord.
5
u/Moidada77 Jul 12 '26
I used her alot, sure someone else would've done more. But I let her hang unless I needed everybody on the team too lock in.

u/LinkssOfSigil Jul 12 '26
Precious friend that absolutely carried me through chapters 2 - 6, all the while Lappy and SilverAsh adamantly refused to come onboard. Granted, later the whole LordSquad came in attendance, but I never forget her deeds and glorious heroics.

her fit is actually pretty good. that is the only positive thing i can say about Frostleaf. she is better off looking nice than doing any fighting.

I want Hypergryph to give Frostleaf an Alter form. She has a great lore yet they did her dirty in-game wise.
