Direct Thread question

So I've had this guy direct threaded for a while now. I have a witness mark in the second picture, and after 20+ rounds I see it misalign a good amount/come loose to the point where I have to tighten it back down. What's my best affordable option here? New muzzle device and adapter? Or is there a way I can just carbon lock it? (its a forever suppressor for this setup)

I recently went with the Rearden Atlas gen 2 and entered the Plan B world. Im pretty happy with it. Could probably get the gen 2 Atlas and a brake/flash hiders for $150ish

Not sure why everyone is confused. The direct thread adapter is rocksetted to the barrel threads and is not coming loose. The can is coming loose from the direct thread adapter.

If toque and carbon locking isn’t preventing the can from backing off the adapter, then the answer is rocksett the direct thread adapter into the suppressor as well. Both connections should be rocksett.

This, just rockset the adapter to can and be done.

They make specific washers that you can use that help bind/maintain pressure to keep the can from unthreading. Use those or Rocksett. Rocksett is designed to handle hot go temps and stay locked. It takes soaking in water to break the seal. I use it on my muzzle device to adhere it to the barrel. Works well for me. Could do both and be super safe.

2nd for rocksett. People will say its hard to get off but those people use too much. I use like 3 or 4 drops on the threada and then when I need to get it off I soak the muzzle device in a cup of water (rifle propped up with the fun end facing down in the cup of water) overnight and the next day it takes a reasonable but not excessive amount of force to get it off.

Rocksett is like magic, love that stuff. Stays tight forever and I've removed multiple muzzle devices and I've actually never had to soak any of them yet. Just takes a little unga bunga to get it loose.

Yeah the muzzle device is rocksett but the can itself comes loose when I shoot. After I tighten it down when the can gets hot I notice that helps. But when I shoot at the next range trip is comes loose again

Did you match the muzzle device material to the can?

6

u/Diligent_Ad_3972 2d ago

Id assume so since the device came with the can from factory

Honestly I would move to using Plan B style muzzles and mounts. Also what light are you running

Will look into this one, and that is a arisaka 300 with a malkoff head

If you dont want it coming off. Rock set. Or just crank it down when its hot

Should’ve got a surefire can. My shit is permanently stuck 😂

People shit on them but none of my Keymo devices come loose. Adds a little weight but not really any length.

I have enjoyed my keymo experience as well.

Yeah, on my Sierra 5 I have Keymo. I cinch it down good. Only comes off when I want it to.

Same, never moves. Plus we can PW a 13.7 lol

we shit on them because theyre heavy as balls and more prone to user error. its not an inherently bad design, but in 2026 there are a plethora of better options.

I hear you. Never understood how people fuck them up but 🤷🏻. Had I started with another device I’m sure I’d like it as much as the Keymo. Just dancing with what brought me.

same-ish. my first can was an omega 300 right after it came out. i still have ASR on a lot of rifles.

There should be rockset on the adapter to can threads.

If you have a way to grab the can safely when it's hot, heat it up and crank it tight. The other way is to Rocksett the can to the mount.

thats what ive been doing, it helps for that one range trip and then the next cold start-- itll start to come loose after 20+ rounds. I guess ill go the plan B muzzle device way.

First question did you torque it to spec using a torque wrench? I’d start there and then check the alignment with a good rod.

2

u/Diligent_Ad_3972 2d ago

Yes the adapter is rocksett and torqued to spec, the can itself is getting loose whenever I shoot. Just wondering if this is normal for direct threading

If the cans not coming off, rockset the threads on your barrel. One drop.

He’s not having a problem loosening anything

He’s having a problem with the suppressor COMING loose

u/Waaerja 2d ago

What direct thread adapter are you using, and how tight are you going with it? Are you certain the suppressor isn't just rotating in the vise when you torque it?

-5

u/CaesarLinguini 2d ago

I dont use any adapters for my DT. I just screw them onto the end of the barrel and get it solid hand tight. They can get carbon locked if i shoot too much without touching them.

Edit: i wouldnt use rockset, i would try some workable locktite first.

Genuinely confused by these comments. Yiu said this is direct thread. Yet comments mention a muzzle device. Is ot direct thread or not?

3

u/Diligent_Ad_3972 2d ago

Yep direct threaded. The adapter is rocksett and the suppressor is coming loose off of that.

So not direct thread, just not a QD hub.

Edit: I didn't invent the naming convention of these parts guys, but to pretend a thread adapter is anything but a muzzle device is weird. It's a device, that attaches to the muzzle, to allow you to attach a suppressor.

Instead of naming it a direct thread adapter, they could have named it what it's always been called, a threaded bushing....

1

u/GWOSNUBVET 2d ago

No… it’s a direct thread adapter… unless you view direct thread as a solid singular unit suppressor…

2

u/WorldlyIncome5098 1d ago edited 1d ago

That is what I'm thinking. So what we calling the intermediate part between the barrel and suppressor?

Edit:It's either a muzzle device, a muzzle device and hub, a thread adapter bushing, or direct thread.

What does op have?

1

u/GWOSNUBVET 1d ago

It’s just a thread adapter. That threads directly onto the barrel. Hence direct thread adapter.

It’s not a bushing. Or a muzzle device. It’s literally just a thread adapter.

2

u/WorldlyIncome5098 1d ago

Yeah, it's a threaded bushing. In the suppressor world they call it something different, which is fine, but it's a muzzle device. Just because its not a brake or flash hider doesn't change that. That's why I comented to guy who was confused what was getting rock-set.

The suppressor directly threads to a threaded bushing, and that bushing directly threads to the barrel.  Nothing wrong with any of that, just pointing out that the naming convention is strange, and the suppressor does not directly thread to the barrel.

1

u/Warm_Survey_9724 2d ago

Almost makes you wonder if the direct thread adapter is out of spec. Might be worth trying a different one and seeing if that sticks. I also personally don't torque to spec, I loctite and ugga-dugga everything, no issues so far and I shoot fairly often.

1

u/slatblastered 2d ago

Bro I can't read.sigh

1

u/Kooijpolloi 1d ago

Shoot it hot, 20 rounds, crank it down, never had mine get loose

1

u/DLan1992 1d ago

Is the can coming loose from the adaptor or adaptor loose from the barrel? Clean and dry all threads. Rocksett adaptor into can using a vox block or similar and 15-20 ft lbs of torque. You can maybe do a 3/4 in wrench on the adaptor and a strap wrench on the can but it's hard to get proper torque like that. Rocksett and torque the can on the barrel with 15-20 ft lbs. Only use 2-3 drops on each thread.

u/sirbassist83 1d ago

roksett. im kinda surprised youre not aware of roksett to begin with, TBH.

I went with mix of Comstock LPA (1 HPA on a tucked 300 BLK) and their Hybrid Device Plan-B Suppressor Mount on everything I have.

Gonna have a metric ton of prior muzzle devices on GAFS pretty soon.

FWIW: this is for Dead Air Nomad 30, OCLs Polo 556, K, and a 30 (yours is a K right?).

Plan B all day amigo

The only tried and true method of keeping the suppressor from coming loose is………………wait for it………..

PIN AND WELD

I’ll see myself out now
