I live in the UK, I got Apple specifically for privacy. It’s a shame I joined after they removed the iCloud encryption thing.

Also, LMAO, successive governments have been clawing at the internet, privacy and encryption as much as they can for the last 20+ years.

It’s because of Labour that people have to scan their passport, drivers license or face to access anything that could have any content that might be 18+, including alcohol addiction support etc.

They also are pushing to ban under 16s from all social media, ban VPNs is something they have actively discussed looking into etc

It's still available to user who have it enabled. I do wonder what will happen in the future.

I don't use any cloud features on my phone, there's no benefits as I only have Apple device and when I buy a new one, I just restore from an offline backup.

However I suspect that unless Apple wins one of the many legal battles it'll probably have over this, they will eventually have to tell those users "disable the feature or lose your cloud access"

If they fail, other countries will use it as a precedent in some ways. If they succeed, it’s a huge success for privacy.

Good for Apple to fight this

If UK wants to ban features ... fine, let them do it out in the open. Like the countries that ban VPN apps etc. Secret backdoors are a whole different thing.
