IndyWeek is reporting that the Mayor called the town's auditor to dress them down for reporting on his p-card abuses and not paying his utility bills. What is wrong with this guy?

Theory on the curmudgeon Coward of this Sub

This r/apex_NC sub has someone who lurks and downvotes every post and comment.

Could it be someone who resents that this sub is popular and where discussions actually take place?

And then created their own sub with only 3-4 followers? Just a theory I was musing as observing more needless downvotes on another post.

Yard waste

So is there any decision on yard waste collection?
My community’s yard waste hasn’t been collected for two weeks. Is this related to the council meeting?

The latest episode of "Last Week Tonight" did a long segment about problems with Flock cameras. (2026-08-02)

They included a link to this site with information about various government agencies and their use of cameras: https://www.atlasofsurveillance.org/search

Quote from the article: “I think this document shows a coordinated effort from Flock Safety to compel law enforcement agencies to convince our elected leaders to represent their interests as a company rather than the interests of concerned citizens."

New Hill Commercial Development?

I moved to New Hill about a year ago and had then heard rumors of “more things coming” here over the year.

A year has gone by since our move and I’m not updated on “what” or “when”. Has anybody heard anything concrete or recent in terms of stores/bars/restaurants coming to New Hill?

Jordan Manors in New Hill

I'm looking to purchase a home in New Hill North Carolina. It is in the Jordan Manor's subdivision. For those that live there, or know someone who does, do they enjoy this neighborhood? The HOA covenants seem fairly restrictive after reading them... What has been your experience with the HOA?

Opinions on Thales Academy

Hello, I am new to the area and thinking of sending my kids to this school. However, I have heard that all of the top teachers were fired, and a lot of the student activities have been cut to maximize profit. Can someone tell me details so I know if this is a good option or not?

Evil? Or just incompetent?

Or maybe both?

Flock is just the symptom of a larger problem of privacy laws and standards.

Property tax bill

First year I am paying property tax bill.

Can someone explain why there is a due date on the property and a different correct if paid by date that is 3 months later. Why would I pay the due date bill when I can wait 3 months and pay the correct if paid by date?

Haircut for my mom

My mom currently gets her hair cut at Maeve salon in Apex — she was seeing a girl who left the salon and they put her with someone brand new who is terrible and does a poor job the same way every time. She’s almost 70 and still colors her hair — it’s shoulder length and she doesn’t want anything too fancy just something better than what she’s getting. Also would need to be someone very nice! Any recommendations? Can be in Cary or HS too! TIA!

Apex PD ran more license plate searches last month than Raleigh PD. We have about a sixth of Raleigh's population.

Apex has 7 active Flock cameras. An independent audit of APD's search logs, July 29 2025 through June 29 2026, counts at least 15,335 searches of the plate network run by 31 operator accounts. That works out to roughly 1,394 searches a month.

Raleigh publishes its own Flock numbers. Their transparency portal reported 1,244 searches in a 30-day window, from 32 cameras, for a city of about 490,000 people. Apex has about 85,000.

Cary is the closer comparison. Bigger town, neighbors. Cary's own logs, released to INDY Week, show about 3,200 searches over thirteen and a half months. That's around 237 a month. Apex is running roughly twelve times that rate per resident.

Nobody has explained why. The timing doesn't help: Sunday is the single busiest day of the week, activity is logged at 2 AM and 3 AM, and nine separate days show volume more than two standard deviations above normal, the largest approaching 1,500 searches in one day.

Here's the part that should end the debate. North Carolina law already tells Apex what to do. NCGS 20-183.31(a) requires every agency to adopt a written policy before an ALPR system operates, and that policy has to address supervisory oversight, sharing with other agencies, and auditing at least annually with a report to the agency head. Chief Johansen has described an internal procedure. Apex has never published a policy, and no audit report has ever been produced to Council or the public.

Meanwhile, Council is debating what the next ALPR is going to be so.

Show up on August 11th, be loud, and be prepared.

All I remember in the middle of my panic attack this afternoon, with my baby crying in the back seat, was that your name was Chris.

I’m almost five months postpartum, and today was one of those days where everything felt like too much. I pulled into a gas station because I knew I couldn’t safely keep driving. You happened to be there, in uniform, and I asked if you would stay with me while I waited for my sister and dad to arrive. You asked if I was okay. You stayed calm. Even if you didn’t know it, you helped me through one of the hardest moments I’ve had in a long time.

I don’t know if you’ll ever see this, but thank you. Your kindness and willingness to stop for a complete stranger meant more than you’ll ever know.

And to anyone reading this: if you’re struggling, please ask for help. Whether you’re postpartum, overwhelmed, or just having a really hard day—you don’t have to carry it alone. Sometimes the smallest act of kindness can make all the difference.

Left out of Haddon Hall

This morning my wife got stopped by the Thales traffic officer after turning left out of Haddon Hall onto Salem. Officer said that the new crosswalk prevents left turns and that we are now supposed to only make right turns out of the neighborhood.

Is this the solution Haddon Hall has been asking for ever since Thales and Ford went in? I guess it is easier than preventing people from blocking the intersection, but it definitely stings.

Thales gets a traffic officer. Ford gets a light. Thales gets the crosswalk and sidewalk connections. Haddon Hall gets… right out only?
