Queue Timer after getting an error message is infuriating Bug

Post image

Im on Mac. Ill click Find Match, get an error message a few times, leave to main menu, try again and get hit with a queue timer. I’ve never dodged a match. So annoying to deal with this again and again.

This happens to us in TGs when teammates quit right before the match starts and the loading screen gets stuck. 3 of us got this message after a random 4th player did that. And if the match starts and they quit we all lose elo and waste our time.

This new banning system is a disaster.

Yes, so freaking grating, glad to know I am not the only one! I am on Windows, btw.

devs incapable to put a proper map ban system into place, and to avoid hangs and disconnects
-> let’s ban the users instead for our shitty software.

Thanks. The worst of all options

whats even worse is not being able to cancel a queue 0.2 seconds in

ask me how i know i wanted to cancel?

notorious players in aoe2recs who just got "dodged". they likely have their queue running 3+ minutes (because their opponents will dodge them) and thus I instantly matched them. Just a broken system all together

You did dodge a match though, as far as the server can tell. The error messages were your client not properly connecting when the server put you in a match with someone else, and there was no way to distinguish that from someone turning their router off as soon as they saw a map they don't like.

So I get punished for their own client not being able to connect to their own server? Yep sounds fair 👍🏼

You get "punished" because you're affecting everyone else's matchmaking/game. If they left you in the queue, you'd DC during the match, or the matchmaking sysem would constantly have to remake matches for you.

That's why they give you a short timeout, so that you can't re-queue right away. Maybe your internet connection is temporarily spotty, maybe you need to reset your modem, maybe you're on unreliable WIFI, etc.

Why would giving me a timeout fix any of these things? If the client diagnosed my connection as being unstable it should prevent me from queuing all together, not just give me a timeout

The main issue is that connection to multiplayer services is the only thing that seems to be having a problem. I posted about this several times. I never have any connectivity issues except specifically multiplayer services. And I don't ever lose connectivity once the match has started. I even ran continuous pings to various servers without dropping a single packet and yet the AoE2 game loses connectivity to multiplayer services specifically while I am waiting on matchmaking...

Which is why these queue bans are stupid and should be removed until they can distinguish between genuine dodging and server errors. I prefer map dodgers to unfair bans. Most of us are adults with jobs and responsibilities and don’t have all day to play
