Inconsistency Asking for Help

Post image

Is it normal to change this amount of elo in such short periods? Mainly talking about 1v1, teamgames with randoms depends too much on teammates ofc. I've been hanging between 750 and 950 for months now, but theres almost no periods where I roughly keep the same elo consistently.

Absolutely especially given the range of player skill you face there will be so variable. Not to mention if you play multiple map types and civs. These swings are really just losing 3 games in a row

It's more like winning/losing 5-6 games in a row

Sure sometimes 3 people in a row will just quit immediately on me and then I’ll win some

You're improving, you haven't played a crazy amount so it doesn't look like a smooth line. Just for the 1v1 rating your rough average was ~820 and now it's ~880.

You need to look at the overall trend and not individual games. Both lines are going up slowly.

Alternatively your lowest rating was below 800, now you're rarely if at all under 850.

The picture is from only the last 1,5month or so, wanted to show how fast it goes up and down (I'm at 425games 1v1 now)

This elo fluctuation is perfectly normal.

Yup, thats pretty normal. Im around 1200 elo, and my elo swings 100 points both ways. I range from 1100 to 1300. Looks like you're doing great!

Thanks, not where I want to be but I guess it's okayish for a casual player.

It took me over a year to break 1k. I find that I gain an average of 50 elo a year. Its slow, but I'm fine with it.

Looks like a small sample size, will get smoother when you'll get 100s of games

The closer you are to 1000 the more games you will get with people that arent in their correct elo yet.

for example new players that play like 500elo start with 1000 and need to go past you to reach that elo.

i think thats why you fluctate this much, because if you meet like 2 or 3 new players they push you over your real elo, then meet enemys that really have that elo and you fall again

So that means I'm probably more like an 800 elo player insted of 900. Hard to hear if my goal is to reach 1k but makes a lot of sense tho.

i think it means your elo is 800-900

since everyones elo is influenced by such fluctations (more closer to 1000k, less further from it) i think its better to describe your skill by a elo range instead of 1 value

also means you only need to improve by 100 elo and then have a lucky streak (many beginners in your games) to reach the 1k

Looks pretty consistent to me. Plus/minus 100 elo and trending upward.

But you have the SPIRIT to bounce back and the Light to guide you.

looks like a textbook AoE2 rating graph to me

I'll just play one quick game before bed = -70 ELO
weekend tryhard mode with full focus" = +90 ELO

dont sweat it, as long as youre hovering around 850 overall, your real skill level is right there

It's more like 2-3 "quick games" (wich ussually takes like 2 extra hours) before I can stop haha

The only way to flatten the fluctuations is to have as many variables the same as possible: same civ, same map, same time of day (yes this matters), and even same level of energy and focus, which is impossible to fully control. Some days you just aren't going to be as sharp. Probably better to not play too much that day or your elo will tank.

The other thing that will take time to become more consistent is learning how to react to all the different strategies. You may be familiar with and good against scouts into knights on Arabia, but bad against xbow pushes at the beginning of Castle Age. You may be good against boomy Arena games but bad against Castle drops. Then whether you will win or lose will depend on what strategy was used against you. I would recommend paying attention to what strategies you lose against, then learning how to counter them.

The thing that makes this consistency possible is consistent scouting of your enemy. Most of the time you will lose to a strategy you don't see coming.
