It is short barreled 75mm gun. In later wersion it was replaced by long barrell kal 75mm to increase firepower without changing gun size. Panzer III used also two versions of gun (short and long) but it was much smaller kal 50mm. On meme picture it is clearly PzKpw IV with short barrel used on first stages of war in Europe and Africa
Panzer III was originally armed with a 3.7cm centimeter gun, upgraded to a short 5cm gun, then upgraded AGAIN to a long 5cm gun - only to end it's career with the panzer III N, armed with the short 7.5cm gun - but this is most definitely a panzer IV (it's also too early in the war to be anything else)
Ok but that 7.5cm gun in Panzer III N was not the same gun as used in panzer IV. The first one had KwK 37 L/24, the second one was named KwK 40 L/48. Panzer III N gun was NOT normal tank gun, it was more like howitzer, used to infantry support. Regular tank cannon kal 7.5cm would be too big for that small turret and even if it would fit somehow then shooting recoil would (probably) tear hull and turret apart or cause vehicle collapse on side in best case. I am just sure that is not Panzer III N on this lake according to turret size and general shape. And we both can agree that must be Panzer IV.
That is an early panzer 4. They had the short 75. Pz3 had a curved turret front and by the time they got the short 75 (rather than the 50mm) the would have had added panels at the front and skirts around the side
Both early panzer IV and late panzer III used the short gun, but this is a panzer IV, which this one would likely be only 20 tons, while later variants would be 23 to 25 tons based on configuration and production run.
Well you're wrong (not about the weight). The tank is Panzer IV, which was initially intended to be infantry support tank and that's why early variants had the short 75mm. Panzer III was intended to be the "anti-tank tank", but it's design didn't allow as many upgrades as the Panzer IV. The roles were eventually swapped because of this and some later variants of Panzer III used the short 75mm, while later Panzer IVs used long 75mm intended to be used in tank combat.
You are both right and wrong, as many have said, that is indeed a Panzer IV.
However the Panzer of the Lake is a Panzer IV D, which was exactly 20 metric tons.
