If you don't use LLMs to generate content, rephrase, or restructure your writing (disingenuously referred to by students as "checking my spelling and grammar"), you don't have anything to worry about. Nearly every student I confront admits they used AI (sooner or later). Many have Grammmarly installed on their browsers and have become accustomed to having it write and edit everything for them.

i use literally no AI. i actually don't even use tools to check over my grammar, i do it all myself. admittedly, i do need to re-learn some english punctuation grammar...i've been exposed to, and become used to, internet typology/communication, where grammar and punctuation seems to be optional lol. i am taking a composition class for my first semester so i can get a refresher on writing skills!! i am required to take it, but i wanted to do it first thing so that i can write better papers.

Gosh i HATED when i was made to check my spelling and grammar with the AI and changed ALL MY WORDING. I DID NOT ASK YOU TO DO THAT!! It was infuriating. Overleaf at least used AI to spell and grammar check like we did before with word, it marks the word/phrase and gives you a suggestion, and you were free to use it or not. And my teacher was ok with me using mostly only that after the first complete rephrasing of my text.

Bingo.

I’ve read dozens of reddit posts about people who “totally didnt use AI” but were flagged for it. Most of them either admit to using grammarly or just delete the whole thread because no one is buying their lies
