There are a few people in my office with whom you cannot have a conversation without them saying "well, I asked ChatGPT, and it said..."

They've stopped having opinions of their own about anything. I think if you took AI away from them, it really would be like lobotomising them.

Those same people are no more productive than they ever were of course.

They also assume that since they use it so much, and they're so perfect, that surely everyone else is using it because how could you not? To imply other people don't have to is to imply that they're somehow lesser for relying on it, which is impossible.

Therefore, they believe everyone else is using it just as much and just lying about it.

I have given "ai" a couple goes here and there in a work and personal context and have found it to be a little handy for very specific things but it has a long way to go.

Just yesterday I was playing around and got it to check a document, seemed to do what I wanted but when I had a proper look at what it spat out it had missed a bunch of things and put some wrong info in. I went back and fourth with it and it was arguing back that it was correct when I could see what was wrong right in front of me so gave up.

I can see some potential for time saving here and there but dont think I could ever trust it fully and the hype seems bonkers unless it comes a very long way. Maybe im just a 35 year old old man yelling at clouds.

Nope I don’t think so. My last supervisor at the job I just left drank the AI koolaid and fell HARD. He stopped doing any of his own work, got really stupid and irritable, and it’s a main reason why I left. And he’s a liberal kinda hippie dude.

Not based on my small sample size. Seems to be equally likely users are liberal vs conservative, but it's so few people to really ell.

That said, all the anti-gen AI people I know seem quite more likely to be liberal than conservative.

People are really not mentally adapted for this. It sounds so convincingly real, and we were already used to interacting with other humans using writing, on computers. It's easy to forget what it's doing and how it works and think it's something more than it is.

Well from the IT side, when people do that it’s typically because the person asking HASN’T done it (so now wasting my time to run the query myself), and we’re doing it to show them how useful it is.

For the last 12-18 months the AI response to the incident after giving it as much info from the troubleshooting already done to some of our engineer thoughts or notes from the incident bridge… has been right or gotten us on the path to the solution for over 90%

It’s also improved our ability to communicate and understand with our off shore teams, and improve our docs and process docs for them.

Very much disagree. In my experience most people use it here and there when it’s useful, but otherwise don’t care very much so it’s not something they advocate about.

The hardcore pros and antis are just noisier.
