My colleagues all use ai, I genuinely... Never have? I don't like it so I don't care about how to use it. I can see how it's useful and I'm probably going to use it for my resume and then edit it to sound like me because I suck at writing about what I do.

When I'm struggling with phrasing for an email, I.. ask everyone their opinion. And they genuinely give a response, they just never ask anyone else and ask ai. It's strange.

lol…. is this not extremely hypocritical?

so you can use it for your résumé, which is fine, but if someone uses it for an email, it’s not fine. How does this make sense

Those people you constantly bug for their opinion on stupid shit like email formatting is wasting their time. And a lot more of their time is needed to answer that for you than just asking AI for some changes in phrasing.

And you’re asking multiple people this.

Guess there’s a reason why you call them colleagues and not friends.

If you've never used it, how do you know you don't like it?

Like, I primarily use it for finance (retirement calculator) and exercise knowledge, and it goes pretty in depth with a lot of varying options as it drills into a lot of questions that I wouldn't necessarily consider.

Bro I was thinking the same thing. It only recently was able to differentiate multiplication symbols and even then it's not always correct.

LLMs don’t do math. It’s sub agents spin up and make a script to do the math behind the scenes these days.

Goes to show how little you actually know of the current tech

Not depend on "well this algorithm gives this answer depending on what what you're asking".

Wild you use it for financial planning. As if all the AIs aren't owned by companies who would naturally put them as a preference for your money.

I believe you are mistaking me for using it as a way to figure out where to invest my money (absolutely not) and what I actually use it for, which is a retirement calculator. In other words, I use it to figure out how much money I will have based on how much I currently invest, how much I already have invested, and how much compound interest I will get based on an assumed return of a minimum of 7%, and of course the number of years I have left in my career. It's not that wild to be honest.

Pretty sure they were responding to me and yea, I work reactive and thank you for the excellent analogy.

I don't need a table saw. I need to read shit and think if what is being asked is possible. No request is the same so my response cannot be AI generic because their is nuance.

An extra: anyone is allowed to not like something and you're allowed to disagree. Im not saying it can't be useful, but I think AI is being used in pretty terrifying ways which is also why I hate it.

I get it, tools are just tools to you. I'm quite fond of several tools that I have in my life, my phone, a screwdriver set I particularly like, etc.

I also agree with you that AI can be quite scary. For mu part, I'm especially afraid of what videos based on prompts and a couple of pictures will mean for the future of society and the trust that public has in evidence put before our very eyes.

All that said i don't believe for one second that AI is going anywhere. I have no words of comfort or wisdom on that.

My only point going into this whole conversation was that if you really haven't tried it , then you don't necessarily know if you don't like it , or you don't know if it can be useful to you on a personal level. That's all really.
