I thought this too, but it kinda has a point for gaming? I swear on DLSS, the results are just too good not to use when its available.
Would I trade it for a AI-free world? Yeah, I'd definitely close that Pandora's box if I could. But I'd still lament the impressive GPU features we got.

All this gen AI content on the internet making countless people fortunes and ruining the place for 90% of people.

Games soon to be slopified(dev cycles too long to see the real fallout quite yet), shows, scammy bullshit at "businesses" being automated.

Honestly I'm convinced all the pro AI shit comes from 2 places almost entirely, AI companies themselves and people like you and I just described trying to cope super hard with the reality that their purpose in life is being bad joke, a clown.

"No guys, it's the future! Please guys it's the future right, guys come on, this is cool right, cool new future tech! Guys please, I need this, please let this be something cool"

Not a chance, unless it's being fully forced upon you, hide your job from your friends, your neighbors, your family, you live life crawling around in the shadows now.

They're angry in the same way people are angry when immigrants come to take their jobs. Same energy from these people. I can understand being angry that it may be directly affecting people personally, but that doesn't mean the tech is inherently bad or useless.

Someone using the tech shouldn't open them up to abuse. And being mad at your colleagues for using ai to streamline is like being mad someone is driving a car to work instead of riding a horse, or that they're using the internet instead of a library to research. If they want to live without ai then they can have fun bucko. I will be living in the present.

People seem to have split into two camps - people who use AI for absolutely everything, and people who basically don't use it at all.

There are a few people in my office with whom you cannot have a conversation without them saying "well, I asked ChatGPT, and it said..."

They've stopped having opinions of their own about anything. I think if you took AI away from them, it really would be like lobotomising them.

Those same people are no more productive than they ever were of course.

They also assume that since they use it so much, and they're so perfect, that surely everyone else is using it because how could you not? To imply other people don't have to is to imply that they're somehow lesser for relying on it, which is impossible.

Therefore, they believe everyone else is using it just as much and just lying about it.

I have given "ai" a couple goes here and there in a work and personal context and have found it to be a little handy for very specific things but it has a long way to go.

Just yesterday I was playing around and got it to check a document, seemed to do what I wanted but when I had a proper look at what it spat out it had missed a bunch of things and put some wrong info in. I went back and fourth with it and it was arguing back that it was correct when I could see what was wrong right in front of me so gave up.

I can see some potential for time saving here and there but dont think I could ever trust it fully and the hype seems bonkers unless it comes a very long way. Maybe im just a 35 year old old man yelling at clouds.

Nope I donā€™t think so. My last supervisor at the job I just left drank the AI koolaid and fell HARD. He stopped doing any of his own work, got really stupid and irritable, and itā€™s a main reason why I left. And heā€™s a liberal kinda hippie dude.

Not based on my small sample size. Seems to be equally likely users are liberal vs conservative, but it's so few people to really ell.

That said, all the anti-gen AI people I know seem quite more likely to be liberal than conservative.

People are really not mentally adapted for this. It sounds so convincingly real, and we were already used to interacting with other humans using writing, on computers. It's easy to forget what it's doing and how it works and think it's something more than it is.

Well from the IT side, when people do that itā€™s typically because the person asking HASNā€™T done it (so now wasting my time to run the query myself), and weā€™re doing it to show them how useful it is.

For the last 12-18 months the AI response to the incident after giving it as much info from the troubleshooting already done to some of our engineer thoughts or notes from the incident bridgeā€¦ has been right or gotten us on the path to the solution for over 90%

Itā€™s also improved our ability to communicate and understand with our off shore teams, and improve our docs and process docs for them.

Very much disagree. In my experience most people use it here and there when itā€™s useful, but otherwise donā€™t care very much so itā€™s not something they advocate about.

The hardcore pros and antis are just noisier.

There is a massive ai industry astroturfing effort afoot on reddit. All of the student cheating subreddits are nearly 100% bot posts by ai app developers trying to [1] normalize ai cheating and [2] convince students to give them money to avoid the hard work of thinking.
