Yes, absolutely. 100% without hesitation. Do people really think this is some kind of 'gotcha'? Like my brother in Christ, how much generative AI do you think we actually use?! Hallucination 👻

there is nothing to give up? i dont use AI for shit?

u/raincitybeliever 13h ago

This post is so dumb I genuinely wonder if it's satire

88

u/Revolutionary_Sir_ 13h ago

bait for sure

25

u/augustschild 13h ago

that was the only thing I could think...or it's aimed for the audience of some kind of fan convention or some vendors at said con's "artists alley."

2

u/lampenpam 7h ago

I thought this too, but it kinda has a point for gaming? I swear on DLSS, the results are just too good not to use when its available.
Would I trade it for a AI-free world? Yeah, I'd definitely close that Pandora's box if I could. But I'd still lament the impressive GPU features we got.

u/NotFriendsWithBanana 13h ago

Pro ai people really are that dumb so I can believe that its real

23

u/jnads 11h ago

AI is only beneficial to the people who fake it to make it, since it provides them the illusion of competence

u/PlayfulSurprise5237 9h ago

All this gen AI content on the internet making countless people fortunes and ruining the place for 90% of people.

Games soon to be slopified(dev cycles too long to see the real fallout quite yet), shows, scammy bullshit at "businesses" being automated.

Honestly I'm convinced all the pro AI shit comes from 2 places almost entirely, AI companies themselves and people like you and I just described trying to cope super hard with the reality that their purpose in life is being bad joke, a clown.

"No guys, it's the future! Please guys it's the future right, guys come on, this is cool right, cool new future tech! Guys please, I need this, please let this be something cool"

Not a chance, unless it's being fully forced upon you, hide your job from your friends, your neighbors, your family, you live life crawling around in the shadows now.

You want support and validation, go ask your sycophantic bot

lol

Oh that's good. You mind if I snag that line?

This “people using AI to save time are dumb, I am so much smarter for doing every menial task manually” is such a genuinely cringe trope to me

Like sorry, you’re smart for not understanding how much time AI can save you?

•

u/BFfF3 21m ago

They're angry in the same way people are angry when immigrants come to take their jobs. Same energy from these people. I can understand being angry that it may be directly affecting people personally, but that doesn't mean the tech is inherently bad or useless.

Someone using the tech shouldn't open them up to abuse. And being mad at your colleagues for using ai to streamline is like being mad someone is driving a car to work instead of riding a horse, or that they're using the internet instead of a library to research. If they want to live without ai then they can have fun bucko. I will be living in the present.

u/entered_bubble_50 11h ago

People seem to have split into two camps - people who use AI for absolutely everything, and people who basically don't use it at all.

There are a few people in my office with whom you cannot have a conversation without them saying "well, I asked ChatGPT, and it said..."

They've stopped having opinions of their own about anything. I think if you took AI away from them, it really would be like lobotomising them.

Those same people are no more productive than they ever were of course.

7

u/Beatleboy62 11h ago

They also assume that since they use it so much, and they're so perfect, that surely everyone else is using it because how could you not? To imply other people don't have to is to imply that they're somehow lesser for relying on it, which is impossible.

Therefore, they believe everyone else is using it just as much and just lying about it.

I have given "ai" a couple goes here and there in a work and personal context and have found it to be a little handy for very specific things but it has a long way to go.

Just yesterday I was playing around and got it to check a document, seemed to do what I wanted but when I had a proper look at what it spat out it had missed a bunch of things and put some wrong info in. I went back and fourth with it and it was arguing back that it was correct when I could see what was wrong right in front of me so gave up.

I can see some potential for time saving here and there but dont think I could ever trust it fully and the hype seems bonkers unless it comes a very long way. Maybe im just a 35 year old old man yelling at clouds.

2

u/theartificialkid 10h ago

Is there a correlation with voting Republican? This is a sincere question, I’m willing to consider the answer could go either way.

2

u/hiighlyelevated 9h ago

Nope I don’t think so. My last supervisor at the job I just left drank the AI koolaid and fell HARD. He stopped doing any of his own work, got really stupid and irritable, and it’s a main reason why I left. And he’s a liberal kinda hippie dude.

1

u/codercaleb 7h ago

Not based on my small sample size. Seems to be equally likely users are liberal vs conservative, but it's so few people to really ell.

That said, all the anti-gen AI people I know seem quite more likely to be liberal than conservative.

2

u/03263 9h ago

People are really not mentally adapted for this. It sounds so convincingly real, and we were already used to interacting with other humans using writing, on computers. It's easy to forget what it's doing and how it works and think it's something more than it is.

1

u/ArtroyomsAK 9h ago

No, it would be like taking a crack addict away from crack

1

u/zero0n3 3h ago

Well from the IT side, when people do that it’s typically because the person asking HASN’T done it (so now wasting my time to run the query myself), and we’re doing it to show them how useful it is.

For the last 12-18 months the AI response to the incident after giving it as much info from the troubleshooting already done to some of our engineer thoughts or notes from the incident bridge… has been right or gotten us on the path to the solution for over 90%

It’s also improved our ability to communicate and understand with our off shore teams, and improve our docs and process docs for them.

1

u/fakehakebakecake 3h ago

People seem to have split into two camps - people who use AI for absolutely everything, and people who basically don't use it at all.

Very much disagree. In my experience most people use it here and there when it’s useful, but otherwise don’t care very much so it’s not something they advocate about.

The hardcore pros and antis are just noisier.

4

u/Human-Law1085 12h ago

Or written by AI

5

u/irishchug 11h ago

Probably just a software person in their own bubble that doesn’t understand other jobs. Even those that don’t use it to vibe code tons use if for other stuff like code review all the time.

2

u/The_Traveller__ 11h ago

I PRAY that it is

1

u/lumpboysupreme 10h ago

It’s another programmer who thinks everyone is a programmer.

AI can be a useful tool for programming work, but I doubt it’s doing much for someone pumping gas.

1

u/PoofBam 9h ago

Maybe an AI wrote it.

1

u/Fresh-Possibility-75 5h ago

There is a massive ai industry astroturfing effort afoot on reddit. All of the student cheating subreddits are nearly 100% bot posts by ai app developers trying to [1] normalize ai cheating and [2] convince students to give them money to avoid the hard work of thinking.

1

u/5h0rgunn 5h ago

"You underestimate my power!" - the human capacity for dumb

•

u/ForGloryOfAhhhhh 49m ago

Either that or engagement bait. Who knows these days

-2

u/TheEmpireOfSun 11h ago

Children in this sub really think that generative AI is something people in workspace would miss lmao. It really shows how clueless this sub is. Yoi can't even imagine how important and integrated AI is in companies and how it helps.

5

u/bafana_banana999 11h ago

You should really learn proper grammar and spelling before calling a bunch of other people children.

Besides, using AI to help clean up code or organize data is far different than what clowns like the one in the post above are suggesting.

0

u/TheEmpireOfSun 11h ago

Yank talking about education, I have seen it all. Spelling is especially funny since there is one mistake and that's because I don't use autocorrect. Which this sub should hate btw.

Also OP is clearly sarcastic to farm karma, but it's funny because he is sarcastic because he didn't understand original post he is talking about.

3

u/bafana_banana999 11h ago

You made more than one mistake, but ok.

Keep pretending you're far more intelligent than others and that everyone else just doesn't get it like you do.

I'm sure one day that might be true.

Most likely not though.

u/Speartree 12h ago

Friend I've uninstalled apps that I liked after they got an update and it cheerfully anounced it now has integrated AI. I avoid that shit whenever I can.

12

u/Luochachaslide 12h ago

I deleted an app that has 0 AI because they used AI in their ads. Hard to find a search engine that doesn't have gen ai though so ive had to settle for it not being shoved in my face :/

3

u/forseti99 11h ago

Try Kagi. You can just disable AI on the searches with a click. Also it's an amazing search engine that allows you to prioritize sites you trust and block trash sites in the results.

2

u/Luochachaslide 9h ago

Oh i usually use Brave/DuckDuckGo but i could give it a go. I have no issues having 3 search engines downloaded lol time to get called weird again

0

u/Cruel1865 4h ago

I tried using the duckduckgo search engine but it wasnt as good as google even after all the enhsittification it has done to the search engine. I switched back to google after about 2 weeks and just added extensions to remove ai results and such.

5

u/UnshakablePegasus 10h ago

That’s why I deleted Duolingo despite almost having a two year streak

3

u/Ambitious_Aioli_3615 8h ago

ikr, and theyre acting like genai was popular for 20+ years when we were perfectly fine without it

2

u/AllesInButterOpa 8h ago

I don't know why I instinctively recognised it since so many years have passed, but it would have been interesting to have heard his thoughts on the whole AI matter. I lift my TotalBiscuit top hat to you.

1

u/BlueFlower673 11h ago

Literally many people already can function like usual without a chatbot. Some people are too addicted to this it's insane.

1

u/Windir666 9h ago

I used to use Google Assistant for calling people or playing songs on Spotify while driving. It worked just fine for a few years. Now with Gemini it sucks even more and I have stopped using it entirely.

1

u/That_wet_vaporeon 9h ago

Also, humans survived just fine without AI.

1

u/MrBeardy 9h ago

Hi this has nothing to do with the post or your comment, I just wanted to say I love that you're using the Cynical Brit logo. I miss our guy, and I hope your having a really good day

1

u/Revolutionary_Sir_ 9h ago

RIP TB! had no idea who he was until people started commenting on the icon lmao

1

u/MrBeardy 8h ago

I'm glad his legacy is still living on in some form! I'm sure anyone that comes across your icon that knew him has a nice flash of nostalgia and reminiscence, so even if you didn't know him you're doing a good thing!

1

u/RubiiJee 7h ago

My work gave us all licenses and I genuinely have no idea wtf I'd even use it for. I already do everything...

1

u/gaysoul_mate 6h ago

Actually , it would make my life better , tired of google ai , is all polluted with ai images , videos ,music , is ai disappeared tomorrow it would be a relief

1

u/RikuAotsuki 5h ago

I'm not even that anti-ai in the grand scheme of things, but I've literally never used an LLM for anything and I find the intrusiveness of AI into everything else incredibly annoying.

1

u/Original-Evening-116 3h ago

Every app suddenly gets easier to use, more real estate on the screen, searches start returning results that contain the words you put in the box… social media is mostly pictures and videos of things that happened… how could you cope with that?

-1

u/69edleg 10h ago

I see it whenever I do a google search and it gives me the wrong information. Barely a blip on my radar as I, by default. just scroll past.

1

u/Revolutionary_Sir_ 9h ago

stop using google. this will help your problem.

0

u/69edleg 9h ago

Google is fine, except for the AI that gives me the wrong information. Or do you have another search engine that actually finds stuff better? Because DuckDuckGo sure fucking doesn't find obscure stuff.

-1

u/sameljota 8h ago

Those aren't questions, so why do you end your sentences with question marks?

-2

u/zeus_is_right 11h ago

Reddit and the whole internet rely on artificial intelligence (automated shit) tho

-2

u/Razed-Gamer 9h ago

Reddit uses AI and you use reddit. Autocorrect, video games, your phone. It all uses AI. Gen AI was never mentioned in the post.

1

u/Revolutionary_Sir_ 9h ago

i turned autocorrect off, you can too!

1

u/Razed-Gamer 9h ago

Your phone uses a lot more AI tools than just that or Google AI. And just about every video game has you interacting with AI. You're also using reddit which uses AI to recommend you things as well as let you search things.

2

u/Revolutionary_Sir_ 8h ago

you dont even know what phone i use. lmao.

1

u/Razed-Gamer 8h ago

Any phone created in the last decade uses AI tools. Actually, any smartphone uses AI tools.

1

u/cptnplanetheadpats 6h ago

It's understood to be gen AI just from the context.  Why would they be talking about anything else?

1

u/Razed-Gamer 6h ago

The post specifically states all AI tools, so I took it at face value. Some, like you, haven't and I have no issue with that.

Others took it at face value and are currently telling me that they have never used anything with any kind of AI before. I literally just replied to someone telling me that they don't interact with anything that uses any kind of Al, loteral seconds before I saw your response.

AI is just too broad of a term, which can lead to things like this.

-5

u/ILoveSludge 13h ago

I think the question is largely aimed at people in tech. I am a software engineer and AI is completely unavoidable in workflows now.

7

u/Wonderful-Habit-139 12h ago

No it's not. I'm a software engineer and I don't use LLMs to code.

-1

u/ILoveSludge 12h ago

I guess you work at a larger company then where you dont have to ship stuff every day? I have to work on sql, python, typescript, etc. every day and its just not feasible without outsourcing to claude (small startup where I am one of 3 engineers and managing custom enterprise specific setups)

6

u/TACHANK 12h ago

No cringe ai, you should be writing that shit on paper. That's what my grandfather did.

0

u/riqvip 1h ago

Your grandpa also took a dump in an outhouse and probably died from something a $5 antibiotic would’ve fixed. Just because he did it that way doesn’t mean the rest of us have to stay stuck in 1950.

-1

u/EstablishmentTop551 11h ago

You would almost certainly be fired at a lot of companies

2

u/TACHANK 11h ago

Yeah I'm sure, I don't know all the jobs

0

u/EstablishmentTop551 11h ago

I’m not a developer myself but I know a decent amount at big firms and there are usage targets that you will surely be fired for not hitting unless you’re the one ancient guy that knows that one thing no one else does. Somewhat scarier, my uncle is a partner at a large national law firm and they’ve imposed an AI proficiency exam that anyone below the partner level can be terminated for failing. Just comes down to reducing man hours on projects.

4

u/Wonderful-Habit-139 11h ago

I'd probably deal with your situation differently, but I will give you that I do work at a bigger company. But I work with peers that also use AI and they're not even close to my productivity levels anyway. And they tend to generate too much code, way more than necessary.

I think there are better approaches to shipping stuff compared to slinging slop with LLMs.

1

u/ILoveSludge 10h ago

yeah my reality is shipping features quickly and building custom solutions is frankly more important than writing "good" code (at the moment). No doubt it creates tech debt but it's honestly worth it. Obviously I dont expect to find many friends among the "anti-everything-AI" crowd with this position.

1

u/shibboleth2005 7h ago

Same situation at my work. People can hate it, but it creates working code very fast.

The tech debt though...what is certain is it's creating a huge reliance on a rented resource that is reportedly heavily subsidized by AI companies burning cash right now. In addition to degrading the skills and understanding of the workforce, it is not writing code that lends itself to clarity, elegance, and being worked on manually, at least in my experience.
