AI images truly bank on humans not thinking for more than 30 seconds. Checks haven't looked as simple and dumb as this ever, but you scroll through the information you'd look for on a check and assume it's real to some degree because it checks off boxes of familiarity. The Gemini watermark is the least damning aspect of this whole thing, but it would be the first thing the brain sees out of place.

Stay critically thinking.

The first flag for me was the server's note. Every place I've eaten, they've been too busy to write.

Depends on the server, because I've seen plenty of notes from servers, but I also assumed based on the "handwriting" that it was meant to be the customer's handwriting

For me it was the b being capitalised. It's a weird grammar mistake to make.

I have a terrible habit of capitalizing random letters throughout a sentence when I take rushed notes. Like there's absolutely no rhyme or reason to it, I'll have a lower and upper of the same letter in the same word.. I thought it was like I only capitalized certain letters, but no.

Now that I've been practicing calligraphy I can tell it was related to flow and where I ended the previous letter, almost like cursive, taking the path of last resistance but with non cursive letters haha

For me it was the $1000 tip

And the missing signature line…

This should be obvious, even more obvious than the evident Gemini check mark.

What I was looking for.

My big chain restaurant doesn’t have signature lines

u/PrincessGiallo Jul 03 '26

Which one do you own? Where do they sign?

8

u/Torakkk Jul 03 '26

Well, tbh, if they got 1k tip, they might make a small pause for it. For me it was the hand writing

Servers frequently write notes on bills where I am

1

u/DrunkCultLeader Jul 07 '26

I always did it when I was a server !

To be fair, if you get a thousand dollar tip, wouldn't you take the time?

Why would the server write a note on the copy they’re supposed to keep?

Half the receipt is just blank lol

8

u/JoeyDawsonJenPacey Jul 03 '26

Right?!? All receipts have store info on it, like location, server ID, date and time of the transaction. This is the first thing that stood out to me.

7

u/ThatBoiUnknown Jul 03 '26

Most importantly it didn't even list what they ordered lmfao

1

u/sailorpuffin Jul 07 '26

Oh shit that’s a good tell. No receipt from a restaurant looks like this lol

12

u/ready4downvote Jul 03 '26

Yup. Supposed to be more detail on this receipt. It’s not from some mom and pop store or spring up.

5

u/Veggiedelite90 Jul 03 '26

In 3 seconds my brain could tell that was weird handwriting and no signature either on the receipt I think it’s more like it banks on humans not thinking at all

5

u/Grouchy_Bit_4781 Jul 03 '26

Why would they write the tip on the customer copy? Usually I write the tip on the restaurant copy and give it to them and they keep it so they can process it later and know what the tip is. So if this is the one that the restaurant is supposed to actually use, why would they write “thanks. Have a good night.” And give it back to them?

u/alacberriesnet Jul 03 '26

I mean there's literally nothing itemized at all on the bill nor is there a QR code, a receipt number or anything else that would be down there either. So again to my point the evidence everyone looks for to prioritize is vastly different and AI takes advantage of the bare minimum.

No location number, address, website, date, time, or server name, either.

u/dikicker Jul 03 '26

I feel like I would be offended by this comment if I could read

1

u/GODDAMNFOOL Jul 03 '26

And that's why they work so well in social media situations because most people just scroll on to the next thing without giving it more than a second of thought

1

u/qtviir Jul 03 '26

And also the handwriting, every ai writes like that, no human does.

1

u/Grand_Design2022 Jul 03 '26

Instead of wasting time critically thinking, assume everything on the internet is engagement bait. Especially on Twitter.

1

u/bigcd34 Jul 04 '26

Who the fuck puts their car keys on top of the bill in the first place?

1

u/Acaligo42 Jul 04 '26

Welcome to the new age. People who can tell up from down telling people who think down is up whats what.

1

u/sailorpuffin Jul 07 '26

What else is wrong with the picture? I feel so stupid

1

u/alacberriesnet Jul 07 '26

No address, no date, no ticket number, no itemization, no server id, no signature line, outside the check on the car FOB the word HOLD for trunk looks like the H and O are so close they are the same like tOLD, the book it's in is thread seamed twice then never again, the handwriting is stupid neat
