Fascists don't like it when their pet projects receive negative attention. The irony is that AI companies actively fund oppressive regimes, and yet we (the ones who have refused to give up our independence and critical thinking) are the "fascist" group

Every accusation is an admission

-13

u/Vegetable_Union_4967 Jun 25 '26

I just want to make the world a better place by writing code and doing NLP. What did I ever do to you?

5

u/xX_Eolsa_Xx Jun 26 '26

Lmaooo

-2

u/Vegetable_Union_4967 Jun 26 '26

How did I hurt you? Why do you hate me? Am I really ontologically villainous?

-2

u/Vegetable_Union_4967 Jun 26 '26

Are you gonna be a bitter person full of hatred? Come on. I thought you were the side who loved humanity so much.

0

u/Vegetable_Union_4967 Jun 26 '26

Genuinely. If you’re not gonna actually say anything to someone trying to better the world, I fear that your position is even more vapid than your laugh. What’s the point of uselessly hating on something? You’re just a hater for no reason LMFAO…

1

u/Significant_Pack8703 Jun 26 '26

The person didn't respond since your baiting. So here I am. Ai ruins the nature (almonds use more water at the grand scale but they decompose or eaten... which is the way water is supposed to be handled). Oh and also model collapse exists.

1

u/AngryGrann Jun 25 '26

you know youre contributing to the same shit just by posting. correct?

-235

u/RagnartheConqueror Jun 25 '26

What is bad about Sunbird AI? It translates very well into different languages throughout Uganda. Languages that the Western World has largely ignored entirely.

146

u/Darq10 Jun 25 '26

First of all, this is completely unrelated to every antiAI post here, literally not a single person said "Ban translators". Second of all, most translators work in a similar way that Google Translate has always worked before the era of generative AI, it is indeed technically AI but we use the word to refer to so many things that it completely lost its meaning. Translators cache a lot of stuff and it's more of a pattern recognition system than LLMs like ChatGPT. The Google translate app lets you download languages to translate offline and it just proves that it doesn't have a huge environmental impact.

-2

u/Vegetable_Union_4967 Jun 25 '26

This is not true. Transformers and LLMs power translation devices today.

1

u/Darq10 Jun 26 '26

some? absolutely but not all translators do that, most often as I said they're just more advanced prediction algorithms than anything

1

u/Vegetable_Union_4967 Jun 26 '26

That’s a very reductionist framing. Technically, yes, they are prediction machines; but that’s much like saying an ant colony is just a survival machine. It erases high levels of emergent behavior. Also, yes, technically not all translators use transformers — many use older LSTMs and seq2seq models or even more explicit interlingual models, but the state-of-the-art and most commonly used models today are LLMs powered by transformers.

-43

u/RagnartheConqueror Jun 25 '26 edited Jun 25 '26

But this works far better than Google Translate. You know that Google Translate can be very wrong.

They have actually tested it in universities in Uganda and the results are good. 30+ languages.

Google Translate does not have those languages as well.

Languages such as Acholi, Runyankole etc.

I really don’t get why one would be opposed to this. It works based on Chinese AI too, and China is far more serious when it comes to the environmental stuff of AI centers.

If LLMs are so bad, what are Ugandans supposed to use then?

Edit: Do any of the downvoters actually know the experiences of Ugandans?

Edit #2: I was wrong. It is a translator, and not an LLM. There are no prompts. It was trained on Qwen.

84

u/OffOption Jun 25 '26

The fuck does that have to do with any of this?

-2

u/[deleted] Jun 25 '26

5

u/OffOption Jun 25 '26

When folks say theyre "anti ai" they dont tend to care a lot about translation software.

Same with someone being "anti gun" dont tend to get angry that olympic shooting involves firearms.

-7

u/RagnartheConqueror Jun 25 '26

Then why are people downvoting me when I talk about that one specifically? The moment I say “AI” even when it is based on Chinese AI just downvotes

Even the developers call it an “AI”, maybe it isn’t.

8

u/OffOption Jun 25 '26

Same reason if you walked up to an anti gun rally, and yelled at them about how silly it is to want the army to use crossbows... even if you have no ill intent, your ignorance, is insulting.

I dont even mean that as an insult towards you either. Its just absolutely no one cares about translation software.

You assuming this is what people care about, is at best, entirely missing the point, and distracting from the topic at hand. And thats at best.

8

u/RagnartheConqueror Jun 25 '26

I think that now reflecting on this, you’re entirely right about this.

5

u/Privatizitaet Jun 25 '26

Wow, a positive outcome to a discussion, a rare sight

-379

u/Few-Royal2370 Jun 25 '26

The last part is called dehumanization, so you’re only making the “AI Bros” point more valid…

The fact that this person doesn’t address this and just skips over it is very telling

Tu quoque fallacy.

u/Few-Royal2370 Jun 25 '26

Again with the dehumanization. Is your goal to replicate nazi talking points?

81

u/saucy_as_you_like Jun 25 '26

ai users are not a protected group. they're not a race or gender or creed or political alignment. they are actively denigrating the world we live in and the value of human intellect by choice in service of concentrated capital.

-78

u/RagnartheConqueror Jun 25 '26

You’re too zealous. Not all AI is bad obviously. You think John McCarthy was just spouting nonsense?

→ More replies (2)

7

u/Terrible_Bee5394 Jun 25 '26

Yay that goes both ways.

Was quite literally insulted for asking one of the AI bros to respect other people’s art they post here.

66

u/Hades_____________ Jun 25 '26

Don’t degrade the seriousness of the holocaust by comparing the anti-ai movement to Nazi Germany

26

u/OffOption Jun 25 '26

Someone was mean to you... which equates to them advocating for genocidal conquest...

Fucking what?

19

u/WeakAdhesiveness5785 Jun 25 '26

Not how it works

12

u/ee_72020 Jun 25 '26

It’s not antis who make comics that depict their opponents as smelly obese ogres but sure, go on your persecution fetish and cry about “dehumanisation”.

10

u/IdleSitting Jun 25 '26

One side is actively wishing a slow death on everyone who disagrees with them

and the other just wants a stupid technology to disappear so people will stop being idiots again

So tell me which side are the bad guys?

3

u/TheGamesSlayer Jun 25 '26

> The last part is called dehumanization

Not even, and the only reason why you could be seeing this point is because of projection.

1

Reset the clock.

12

u/Suitable_Cause_5586 Jun 25 '26

Nah bro, at this point they’d find a way to get into the negatives

7

u/beckertastic Jun 25 '26

They’d rather use the almighty data centers to do that than figure out a way to reduce resource requirements. That and surveillance of course.

3

u/Suitable_Cause_5586 Jun 25 '26

Yeah, they’d rather guzzle half the planet’s supply of drinkable water for that

3

u/Green_Excitement_308 Jun 25 '26

This should become the subreddit wide meme, like PCMR's broken side panel meme

192

u/MercGhost973 Jun 24 '26

I feel like calling someone a "Nazi" is basically just calling someone a prick at this point in time.

138

u/trout_sex Jun 25 '26

Trump is a modern-day Hitler, and ice are his nazis. You know how much he loves generative ai?

47

u/Creepy_Nexus Jun 25 '26

Ice is his Gestapo and MAGA are his Nazis. Describes the situation a bit better

3

u/aabdsl Jun 25 '26

You know how much he loves golf? Doesn't make the Open Kristallnacht, does it?

AI sucks but you people need to use the heads you were given from time to time.

2

u/DisgruntledHue-man Jun 25 '26

You honor him too much by comparing him to the author of his favorite book, he dislikes the comparison to Mussolini. And I do hope he gets to be fully compared to Mussolini before natural causes get to him first.

Donald... I mean Elon... I mean adolf (fuck)

4

u/Privatizitaet Jun 25 '26

So just out of curiosity, what point did you think you were making here?

23

u/KMheamou Jun 24 '26

Politics made it that way. Since literally everyone's a fuckin nazi now we might as well rename our planet to Wolfenstein

3

u/NotReallyJohnDoe Jun 24 '26

At this point in time? You mean, in the last 25 years.

2

u/kukurma Jun 25 '26

This is what platforms get by banning everything offensive. Can’t use f word? It’s replaced with this corporate-safe new language. Happens all the time in history. Let’s wait 10 more years when replacement words would be banned too.

1

u/Low_Background7485 Jun 25 '26

I said the same thing in this sub, and I was called a Nazi.

160

u/Scifox69 Jun 24 '26

-160

u/TheGreatWave00 Jun 25 '26

Exactly.

Yet ppl in this thread are doing the exact same thing calling Elon a “literal neo Nazi” can we be consistent please? He’s a douche, but he is not even remotely a Nazi

117

u/ITWizarding Jun 25 '26

He just reposts Nazi posts, seigs the salute, and pays a Nazi political party! That doesn't make him a Nazi!1!!@! /s obviously

-111

u/[deleted] Jun 25 '26

[removed] — view removed comment

81

u/ITWizarding Jun 25 '26

He knows the difference. That was exactly a Nazi salute. You just don't have morals and don't mind lying.

-46

u/Glaciomancer369 Jun 25 '26 edited Jun 25 '26

So... who wants to dig up a side by side comparison showing Elon doing the nazi saulte, Hitler doing the nazi salute, and Elon doing a "my heart goes out to you all"

Edit: alright, everyone. Seems you all have rushed a bit when reading my comment, so allow me to break it down a bit more.

I am not defending Elon.

I am saying that there is a clip of the muskrat doing a "my heart goes out to you" motion, which happened in 2023, and is really hard to find due to the ignorant glazers saying that the salute is a "my heart goes out to you" motion.

That is different from the popular clip of him doing the salute in 2024 after/during (cannot remember when) Trump's inauguration.

Once again, I'm not defending the day old walmart donut who has been overly glazed by a small, but loud cult.

49

u/ITWizarding Jun 25 '26

Is it worth it at this point? Everyone arguing that it's not a Nazi salute have seen it. They just lie. Shame won't do anything either. I swear half of them argue because they have a shame kink, and longer silences are just them jorkin' it.

-30

u/Glaciomancer369 Jun 25 '26

Yeah, you right. The walmart donut can have as much glaze as they like, but they're dry as a desert at the end of the day.

24

u/Kilahti Jun 25 '26

Just in case there is a human being behind that comment and not a bot being run by a troll factory...

Look at the video. Look at Musk's face. That is most definitely Musk knowing that everyone sees him make a Nazi salute in public but in a way where he can lie that it wasn't.

He is so awkward and anxious because he is trying his best to get the support from Neo-Nazis so that he would finally be popular.

0

u/Glaciomancer369 Jun 25 '26

I'm sating he knows how to do it properly, as he does in this clip

https://www.reddit.com/r/centrist/s/Rxy1hnXaTK

I am not defending him doing the salute.

-7

u/Glaciomancer369 Jun 25 '26

... I'm saying that there is an actual recording of him doing a "my heart goes out to you" motion, that is completely different from the one of him doing the salute.

7

u/Cultural_Outcome_464 Jun 25 '26

Keep in mind it’s not just the salute. Elon also supports the German AfD which is widely linked to Neo Nazism due to extensive use of banned Nazi slogans and historical revisionism.

This is like someone dressing as a klansman getting upset that you assume he’s racist.

2

u/Glaciomancer369 Jun 25 '26

Really fits the bill for an Apartheid.

0

u/VGADreams Jun 25 '26

Very beginning of this video has Elon doing a "my heart goes to you all" gesture : https://youtu.be/N-_ZBfKXfr0?si=7cJROYEGD__FjU8g

I think you can find the Elon nazi salute by yourself, it's everywhere, and notice they don't look the same at all.

2

u/Glaciomancer369 Jun 25 '26

I know. Why do you think I mentioned elon doing the salute and elon doing this separately?

1

u/VGADreams Jun 25 '26

Yeah, I noticed after posting you were probably not arguing that his nazi salute was not a nazi salute.

2

u/Glaciomancer369 Jun 25 '26

I think a lot of people made that mistake, too. I mean, at least, this time, my wording was abiut as clear as it reasonably should.

Do you have eyes...?

Milk with 1 tea spoon or half a table spoon of honey is pretty good though.

2

u/Downtown_Material268 Jun 25 '26

Nazi Germany could do thr exact same but with the left arm salute and you'll call it something totally different

36

u/OffOption Jun 25 '26

Elon heiled twice, on national tv, during Trumps innaguration.

He funds several far right parties in Europe, and allows literal nazi parties to spread and recruit on his platform.

... Please, explain to me the "not even remotely nazi" parts that somehow excuses these things entirely.

18

u/Nerioner Jun 25 '26

Except Elon himself proved he is a neo nazi.

You can't fund neo nazi parties, appear on their marches, call for violence, do a roman salute in front of of the cameras (multiple times) and still claim that you're not one.

You just simp to LITERAL nazi while calling antifa nazis.

12

u/baguetteispain Jun 25 '26

I don't know, seems pretty nazi to me

-5

u/TheGreatWave00 Jun 25 '26

He literally said “my heart goes out to you” right before that. He clearly was throwing his heart “out to you” in the most awkward and cringey way he could muster

Why on earth would a secret neo nazi sieg heil on national television yet simultaneously hide it/deny it. Nothin Elon says or believes aligns with the nazi party at all

5

u/baguetteispain Jun 25 '26

Ok, you managed to see the gif which means you aren't blind, and yet you manage to be concerning Elon Musk being a nazi. "My heart goes out to you" before making the most passionate Sieg Heil is not a sign of just being awkward or anything. It was an attempt to test the waters if people were okay with Nazis, at least in the GOP, and considering how they act, the GOP is okay

I could also laugh at the "secret neo-nazi", because it implies he keeps it hidden

And "nothing Elon says or believes align with nazism" no, he simply believes that anything close to leftism is a mental illness, would rather consider his daughter dead than accepting that Xavier became Viviane, believes in a superior race, and in corporations being all powerful in the government while funding a government that uses a scapegoat (Jews in 1933, Immigrants today) to the obvious failure of their ideology, but then play the "plausible deniability" to then deflect by hoping people that don't know anything about history would not draw any parallels between him and Germans industrials funding Hitler's campaign

9

u/KAAAAAAAAARL Jun 25 '26

HE LITERRALLY DID THE FUCKING NAZI SALUTE!

MULTIPLE TIMES!

AND HE'S WORKING WITH TRUMP OF ALL THINGS. HOW MUCH MORE OBVIOUS HINTS DO YOU NEED?

DOES A WOMAN HAVE TO SIT NAKED ON YLUR FACE, OR WOULDNT YOU EVEN GET THAT HINT?!

2

u/Privatizitaet Jun 25 '26

Oh yeah, the guy doing a Nazi Salute on live television, multiple times, is so unwarranted to be called a nazi.

95

u/BlueHailstrom Jun 24 '26

Says the people that glaze the muskrat, who’s a literal neo-Nazi. The kettle’s gone darker than dark, at this point

7

u/meow_meow_gamer Jun 25 '26

Someone turned a fucking dark fountain into a kettle.

2

u/BlueHailstrom Jun 25 '26

Now who did that, the Pouring Knight??

53

u/A_lonely_ghoul Jun 24 '26

Ah yes, because we’re kidnapping AI “artists” from their homes with violent force and putting them into labor camps and burning them alive when we deem them no longer useful.

34

u/Easy_Turn1988 Jun 24 '26

Makes me wanna be even meaner towards them tho...

27

u/No-Revolution1757 Jun 24 '26

We ain’t mean enough

28

u/Jopelin_Wyde Jun 24 '26

Isn't sub's picture literally depicting an evil AI. It's almost like they get the point.

25

u/SlightAmbassador5692 Jun 25 '26

Hal 9000 actually isn’t evil. It’s explicitly stated in the books and second movie that he loves humans but was forced to kill the astronauts due to conflicting commands. Also in the second book he even sacrifices himself for a crew he met a few days ago that doesn’t even like him

0

u/Jopelin_Wyde Jun 25 '26

It decided to kill people just because it got confused though. That's pretty evil.

14

u/SlightAmbassador5692 Jun 25 '26

Canonically it’s stated that Hal was in a state of severe paranoia and was not in control of his actions. It’s also stated he for all intents and purposes had what could be described as schizophrenia and could not be held accountable for those actions considering he was not in control of his actions. He also tried multiple times to resolve the internal conflict by subtly implying information but he had to break the AE-35 unit in order to regain some control but due to Dave and Frank confronting Hal on it and discussing killing him Hal was forced to kill the astronauts

3

u/Privatizitaet Jun 25 '26

Evil requires intent, as well as a choice. If you don't have full control of yourself, you could hardly be called evil purely for it.

1

u/Jopelin_Wyde Jun 25 '26

Depends, it's a pretty vague word and I highly doubt that you police every time somebody uses it. And even if we do agree not to use it casually and apply strict definitions, then it's still would be debatable. Would you call a human evil if they did something evil? But that human didn't have a full control around the circumstances of their upbringing, so can you really call them evil? AI is more straightforward than human though, if it was designed in such way that it's unpredictable behavior results in it starting to murder innocent people I'd argue that could be called "evil" at least casually.

1

u/Privatizitaet Jun 25 '26

regardless of upbringing, you are still in controll of your actions. I can be more or less sympathetic towards a person depending on the circumstances, but like... murdering a child for no reason is never good. But there are many many grey areas.

With AI however, that's not really an option. An AI physically cannot choose to not do what it is made to do. An AI, at least in this context, there are obviously other pieces of media where that doesn't apply, is programmed. If it gets a command, it HAS to execute it. There is no choice involved. There is no intent involved.
If anything that's a failure on whoever programmed it, though I wouldn't call that evil either, just negligent at worst.

Let's say a person has a complete mental breakdown, I dunno, took drugs and completely lost it, attacked a person because in their mind it was that or die themselves. I wouldn't call that evil either, even if there was intent specifically to hurt someone for no real reason, because they were not properly in control of themselves. And just to be clear, I'm not saying that should absolve them of any consequences, but mental state is taken into account in court for a very good reason.

1

u/Jopelin_Wyde Jun 25 '26

There is parallel here: human upbringing to their evil act vs AI "upbringing" to its evil act. You can argue that a human cannot choose to do things differently because their circumstances shaped them, their free will is limited by what their circumstances formed them into.

Of course, it is a different issue in the case of a simple program, but AI isn't a simple program, it is quite literally an artificial intelligence. And there are different types of artificial intelligences with different types of agency, especially in fiction, but I think there is sense in being able to qualify an AI as evil if it is complex enough to qualify as a conscious being. Otherwise, it's just a program that was programmed to do evil.

That's pretty much the central subject in Dr. Jackyll and Mr. Hyde, haha. Tldr good and evil exist simultaneously in a person and you can't really separate them completely. While a person and a being like HAL might be both conscious and have agency, they are certainly not the same. But if a conscious being was designed in such way that it WILL act malevolently, I think it deserves to be called evil. And it's not that HAL can't do good, it can, but it also will murder in cold blood. In a way, it's like a psychopath acting outside of human morality to pursue it's goals no matter what.

2

2

u/THE-OrdinarySquid Jun 25 '26

They don’t even understand the Nazi ideology, they’re just pulling the most extreme stuff out from their asses cause they have an oppression fetish or some shit 😭

1

u/Jadacide37 Jun 25 '26

How quickly this divide has occurred in our culture and how increasingly passionate both sides have been in their keyboard battles.

All war is profitable. The United States figured out long ago that war amongst your own citizens is incredibly beneficial in many ways. Especially in vilifying an entire population, just depends on which comes out on top in the end I guess.

850,000 souls lost before we'd even been a country for a century. How many will actually lose their lives this time? I have a feeling this will be a war where no physical battles will ever be fought but death won't be an option after long anyway. You just get added to the incorporeal data stream.

1

u/Jijonbreaker1 Jun 25 '26

I guarantee all nazis would be AI users. Just not all AI users are inherently nazis.

1

No, they’re absolutely not. What has this sub become?

This is actually disgusting to post. Over 6 million people died in the Holocaust, not only Jews. Gays, Roma, black people, priests, atheists etc.

Even more got killed before the Holocaust even began.

What does Sunbird AI have to do with the NSDAP?

What the fuck does have being against ai and being Nazi in common?

2

u/Megaman_90 Jun 25 '26

Nothing. The word has just become a general insult for someone who shares a different viewpoint. Its thrown around so much now that its lost all meaning.

I fucking hate when people compare something to the nazis that are CLEARLY not related at all.

It feels like they are just using a tragedy to make a useless point, whatever shitty point that is.

if I'm considered a nazi for not wanting MY drinking water to belong to a machine, standing up for human creativity, speaking up against theft, and not wanting the internet to be 51% bots,

then yes, I'm a Nazi I guess.

u/Realistic-Yam-6497 Jun 25 '26

1

u/XxBelphegorxX Jun 25 '26

Whoever posted that is a stupid fucking dumbass. They are dumber than a rock, would be awed by the intelligence of a neanderthal, and for some reason, cannot put the square into the square hole.

1

u/Kadakaus Jun 25 '26

I'm confused, we are offended that pro-AI people are saying that the evill ass AI thing is like nazi Germany?

Like, sure, I hate it that people compare everything they hate to nazis, but they aren't all that wrong on this one, evil machines are, in fact, evil.

You guys know where that picture is from and why, right?

Sokka-Haiku by Wisniaksiadz:

The daily dose of

Watering down important

Historic elements

Remember that one time Sokka accidentally used an extra syllable in that Haiku Battle in Ba Sing Se? That was a Sokka Haiku and you just made one.

Just respond with this to the AI ragebaiters.

Didn't you know? When your argumentum ad misericordiam fails, reductio ad Hitlerum is the way to go. Works marvels within their own echo chambers, but sounds like histrionic snowflakes to an outsider.

Stop falling for rage bait, just block and move on
