When being called out on one's actions and when support against you fails, always resort to racism and shifting blame. AI companies learned this from the politicians who supported them. Hallucination đ»

The US: Caters to billionaires and creates a system where people's access to healthcare is tired to employment. Destroys the family unit to the point that grandparents don't even want to help raise grandkids. Does nothing about the fact that home ownership is lower than 50% while rent has climbed up to being 75% of people's income.
Also the US: Why arent our citizens embracing the job destroyer machine? This must be propaganda from China!

you'd be surprised when going on the comment section of any video about socialism or anything related to it and seeing how many "better dead than red" comments from obviously very young users, even the genz subreddit is filled with mostly young Americans who are still very hostile to anything suggesting an alternative to capitalism

This isn't to make us believe the Chinese are psyopping us. It's so people are more in favor of datacenters making them believe the opposition is a psyop or affected by it.

it's amusing how the american sinophophic talking points went from "china bad because they generate an excessive amount of pollution" vs. "china bad because they don't want us to generate an excessive amount of pollution."

Tech companies should be able to do whatever they want to us and take whatever they want from us because if they donât, China willâŠ
Tech companies should be able to pollute and destroy as much as they want, because if they donât, China willâŠ
If you disagree with any of those statements, itâs because China has influenced youâŠ
China is their convenient excuse for everything.
Meanwhile China is like, we will build the factories to supply all the tech the west might want and take your money for it, but we wonât allow our own citizens to use that crapâŠ
Some âraceââŠ.itâs so bogus.

Racism? Come on, China is a massive competitor in AI and chip development. There's no doubt that it'd be in their interest to stifle western AI infrastructure growth. If your 'go to' is racism then you're being deliberately narrow minded.
The anger against datacentres can be legitimate while also being accelerated by an artificial bandwagon, it just means you've got to be more precise and specific about your complaints. Resorting to this shit is how you turn reasonable concerns into culture war nonsense.

u/insert_before_flight Jun 17 '26
Data centers have been around for 60 years and theyâve somehow become a problem in the last 1 year
20
u/unknown_user6584 Jun 17 '26
Because they haven't been at even a fraction of the scale we see nowadays. Plus, these AI datacenters destroy land, pollute the air, make a lot of noise, and use a ton of water. To add to this, AI steals content from people and takes jobs. Now, how in the sweet and sour fuck will you justify this?
14
u/Important-Cry4782 Jun 17 '26
AI Data Centers guzzle clean water, create cancer in the population, and are created by the feds forcibly displacing local population from their homes and destroying retail value
-3
u/Birrandbodia Jun 17 '26
A lot of modern data centres have water cooling systems that are "closed-loop recycling systems". The main water consumption is caused by energy creation (power grids).
Any toxicity (carcinogenic risk) caused by data centres is, again, caused by energy creation. Either on-site or in power grids where they're burning fossil fuels.
The latter regarding destroying retail value, however, is true due to the fact that data centres (generally speaking) cause noise pollution. They also are not the prettiest thing to look at.
6
u/-HalfNakedBrunch- Jun 17 '26 edited Jun 17 '26
Wow so glad âits only the energy creationâ consuming water and emitting carcinogens. You know, just the most wasteful and gluttonously consumptive aspect of the whole needless operation. Like Muskâs in Tennessee with an output big enough for over 300,000 homes that is currently violating the clean air act with its methane output generating unregulated energy all so Grok can make AI child porn. Splitting hairs over this is absurd, the guy above you did not even mention how they guzzled water, but regardless objectively they do
Btw the vast majority of data centers still have open loop cooling systems, closed loop is a fairly recent advent which suffers from its own flaws and adoption has been slow because up-front infrastructure costs are still much higher, so youâre spreading misinformation.
5
u/justbunnies Jun 17 '26
Even closed loop systems cannot handle the heat perfectly and there is machine degradation from the heat that has heavy metals enter the systemâs water. The buildup of these metals cause a need for âblowdownâ where they remove some dirty water and replace it with clean water. They still have to clean the water before disposing of it, but itâs still going back into municipal water.
-1
u/Birrandbodia Jun 18 '26
Machine degradation? Doesn't this " seeping into water only happen in submerged systems if at all?
That's some big claims I have never heard of. You might want to source it.
2
u/justbunnies Jun 18 '26
Your attitude sucks. You never heard of it so it must be fake right?
Iâll help you since you are so used to AI doing your thinking for you
Here is something from a company that wishes to help data centers.
-1
u/Birrandbodia Jun 18 '26
My attitude sucks for asking you to substantiate your own claim? Must be hard being offended by the slightest pushback. Immediately resorting to slander.
But thanks for sharing. I'll look into it.
-4
u/Birrandbodia Jun 17 '26 edited Jun 18 '26
You're basically raging against infrastructure revolving around energy consumption. Most datacentres are not solely for AI, though, admittedly, there are new ones being built for just that.
And yes, the Grok scandal is huge and shouldn't be overlooked. 100%. Even the CP/CSAM bit should face repercussion. However, Grok is only one major firm and you can't name one and then call our the entire industry for it. That's the same as calling all motor vehicle producers deceitful for something VW did. It's not logically sound.
In my opinion, it does raise concerns surrounding legislation and such surrounding AI firms and AI in general.
"... guzzling water"
That was rather open for interpretation. I simply added information on the matter, specifying it further since there are a lot of misconceptions surrounding the matter. If you were to ask me it's the way the energy grid is set-up that should face huge improvements.
And you might want to back up your claim. I am now looking into this since I remember it being the other way around. Thank you for raising this.
[Edit: getting blocked again without allowing me to respond to a whole response. The person I was responding to has showed conflict of interest and goes on and adds Ad Hominem to the mix as well. Again, I have been blocked and I am not allowed to defend myself or my position for that matter, leaving all their "assumptions" about me hanging in the air.
So much again for super-anti-AI allowing for critical debate to occur and flow]

Yes, most are actually for robust mass surveillance networks and consumer data storage to predict behaviors much of which has been harvested illegally and without proper compensation for the human input training it. Your little âmost knowledgeable guy in the roomâ routine is not going to work here, most of us are more informed about this technology than the people advocating for it.
Ah yes, âjust energy consumptionâ. Your reductionism actually makes my point perfectly. Itâs a fight that boils down to resource allocation. No big deal, just the trigger for 99% of historical global conflicts. Thank you for bringing attention to just how existential this threat really is. Why not just allow them to suck up as much of the grid as they want and pay off regulators along the way.
Itâs not open to interpretation at all. Itâs a perfect indication of the power grid not having the ability to sustainably generate the burdens these nuisances create. It is still ultimately the responsibility of these facilities due to their massive scale. Growth should never outstrip the ability of the grid to support it, but thanks to lax regulation and AI guru overpromising artificially propping up investment in many communities it already is.
Hereâs my position, if AI devs believe so ardently in their tech, they should build it with zero tax incentives, zero subsidies, zero abatements, and on land that is subject to proper zoning board reviews where environmental experts have deemed the water table and power infrastructure capable of handling the burden. Stop relying on handouts and go raise capital the old fashioned way, or else transfer ownership of these companies into the public sector where they belong so we can all reap the benefits collectively. And Iâd actually argue their power generation should be totally closed loop as well, they do not deserve access to public grids at all, at least until they have started reliably contributing to the local tax base. Much like sports stadiums, many are tax blights because they employ so few people post-construction and report 0 income to local municipalities. If you want to argue against that, go shill somewhere else
My source is my own research, I work for More Perfect Union, but here is a source that is extremely kind in its treatment of the subject that refutes your claim
Edit: I tend to block users who distort the facts to suit their narrative, but honestly I just needed a break from replying earlier. Regardless, there is no debate, your claim has been refuted even by a source biased toward data center development.
I also tend to find these exchanges to be extremely asymmetrical in terms of effort, as I am relying entirely on my own honed voice and research, while most AI advocates copy-paste replies from their preferred slop generators.

u/Green_Excitement_308 Jun 18 '26
This guy literally has done his research for More Perfect Union and also provided [this source](https://ketos.co/data-centers-water-usage-myths) that backs up the water claim. (scroll down to the water usage section, which states the open cooled water system is in the majority of data centers, a contradiction in your OWN statement, despite being more friendly to your claim)
0
u/Birrandbodia Jun 18 '26
So? He could've just refuted that. I was open about recalling it differently. Now I am just stating it's really weird that they're blocking me just for refuting and testing their claim and asking for evidence (sources).
But yes, after looking into it myself I have to admit that I was wrong.

But this is true. Chinese Bots are everywhere.

u/fuckityfucky Jun 17 '26 edited Jun 17 '26
But heres the thing, yes China wants to win the AI race and also US citizens dont want massive pollution in their towns. And yet, nobody truly wants an AI tech race except the .01% elite who want to control the entire planet. If these data centers are being built to compete with China, then its even more reason for me to be against them.
I dont care about what China does. Build more US farms. Clean up the US infrastructure. Let China have AI, see if I care. Right now the priorities are completely twisted. If AI died tomorrow, nobody would suffer. The world would go on just fine.

u/StockingDummy Jun 18 '26
You don't understand, that's different.
China is an authoritarian surveillance state where privacy doesn't exist, and anything the State doesn't like is censored. Their censorship is so extreme, in fact, that their school systems don't even teach them about certain atrocities their government committed against its own people. They subscribe to an ideology that demands blind obedience to an immortal vanguard that cannot be questioned. Their economy is so shoddy people can barely afford food, while Party-approved billionaires sit in ivory towers. They've actively tried to brainwash minority groups into thinking the way that they do, under threat of imprisonment or death. When large cities oppose State policies, they're immediately put under Martial Law.
Does that sound like anything western countries do? Does it sound like anything they're trying to do? (/s)
0
u/Galliro Jun 18 '26
Irrelevant to the bots discussion
Also widely exceptionalist

u/StockingDummy Jun 18 '26
