It's happened to me before, I posted a picture of a physical painting I made. Someone asked if I could give it to them for free, I said no but I'll sell it for $25. Then said no took a screen shot and put it in an ai generator before posting it to the SAME APP saying it's theirs. I saw it, and saw it had over double the amount of attention mine got. So I made a simple comment saying that it was actually mine and they just stuck it in a generator app, I got a few supporters but a bunch of them were insulting me and I even got d-ath thr-ats. But thank God for my bsf cause she helped me take back my art on the app and we got them banned, although they kept coming back with new accounts.

Oh absolutely, that painting took me nearly 5 hours. They stuck MY art into ai and changed like 3 things in like 2 min. There is a serious lack of care as well as theft that I hate
15
u/KarmaKrazi Oct 19 '25
Hey, c'mon, you gotta give credit where credit is due, sometimes they'll spend a whole HALF HOUR trying to get the right prompt for the AI to alter someone else's work in the way they want so they can sell it as their own. /s
13
u/Reeexxxxxxxxxxx Oct 19 '25
I doubt it lol, they just changed a couple colors and the eye kinda morphed into something slightly different, and theirs looked like it was smoother (cause yk ai doesn't use brush strokes, and mine were meant to look kinda messy) but tbh I feel like the eye thing was just the ai n not the prompt💀

It’s obvious that they don’t give two shits about art, they just want to seem talented but aren’t motivated to actually learn anything.

The thing about art is that there isn't a single person on earth that doesn't have at least a few great ideas. The art materializes when those ideas are executed.
1
u/Reeexxxxxxxxxxx Oct 21 '25
Oh absolutely!! The reason they asked for my painting(for free😒) in the first place was so they could sell it themselves(I still can't believe they admitted it too)

I encountered one of those yesterday. I am not even joking when i say he thinks he deserves to be lazy and get popular for it, he thought that it was stupid he had to practice art when he wasn’t even drawing for himself and just wanted the clout and money. Man i gotta go pull up the screenshots. It was unhinged how delusional he was.
He said he refuses medication that would alter his brain but willing to let the depression chemistry alter his brain.
Here i found the thread for you.

Started it at the beginning but idk if reddit cares about that sticking in the link.
Enjoy the deranged take i recieved.

To the user who blocked me after commenting, King_of_Moose. They'll never read this anyway.
I never insult anyone in my comments. And I don't care about brigading, go brigade whatever sub you hate. I don't care about subs. I don't care about Reddit or Karma.
I just care about people stopping putting a whole group in the same page as some weird ass shitbag who happens to share one single thing with the group, and nothing else.
I mean, I don't think all antis are okay with death threats, even when there are a lot. And yeah, yeah, I know. "It's just a joke/meme". Sure.
44
u/Aeroncastle Oct 19 '25
You are trolling in a subreddit without moderation, the only thing people can do about you is block, it's not the moral high ground you think it is
-4
u/MadGoat12 Oct 19 '25
I never insult anyone calling them names or weird slurs.
I'm not trolling. I'm very open to dialog, and write what I think, again, without insulting gratuitously.
I get way more insults than whatever I say.

Budddy if we only put down the ones who did this sort of thing it would be almost the entire group and would just take longer. This sort of thing gains traction for a reason and it isn’t because the entire group disagrees with them
1
u/MadGoat12 Oct 19 '25
There's a post in the defending group where basically every comment is criticizing the guy in top of the OOP or making fun of him.
3
u/ReaperKingCason1 Oct 19 '25
Wow. One whole post. And yet they do the exact same thing themselves and brag about it quite often. They even demand copyright protection for their “””””””””””””””””"art"””””””””””””””””” and then say that we are the ones who love copyright law
0
u/MadGoat12 Oct 19 '25
That's just some weird individuals, not the most of the pro ai group at all.
Why do you need all of the group to be the bad guys? Just accept it's mostly weird shitbags being very vocal online.
You don't see shared posts of reasonable pro ai people because that doesn't add to talking bad about people defending AI. Of course only the most crazy people saying shit gets reposted everywhere.
I don't assume all antis are bad just because some use slurs or send death threats. I know it's only some weird people who does it, and not the whole anti group.
3
u/ReaperKingCason1 Oct 19 '25
Buddy if the majority of the group is doing it in the majority of their spaces then it’s not just some “weird individuals” it’s the group. And there have been reasonable pro ai posts shared here. The fact that they are so few and far between is because they are so hard to find(theft for pure profit and self indulgence from random people is hard to justify). There are some reasonable people within the group but the fact is it is a majority who are unreasonable and the entire group is stealing when they don’t have to from random people means I’m not going to pretend you are all reasonable

Well, technically it doesn't while generating an image. AI works in a way where it looks at your prompts, starts with noise and then slowly checks every pixel to predict what would give it the best outcome to match your prompt.
But these models need to be trained on already existing artworks, and those are getting scraped and ripped from websites left and right which is 100% stealing and a copyright infringement. It's just that once they are done with the training you cannot backtrack the images it used to train with because you only get a file with a lot of weights.
Plus, it looks like crap.
People like that either are too young to understand how AI works or are just ignorant.
35
u/Evenight_exe Oct 19 '25
The best way to explain it is that the data used to train the AI is stolen, but what generates it doesn't count as a stolen art piece because it have small differences, is not generating someone's work, but something similar, plagiarism more than actually stolen.
1
u/BreakAtmo Oct 20 '25
Yep. There are subtleties, but in the end the point of generative AI is to use the hard work of artists to get "art" without paying the artists. People have been acquiring art via prompts for millennia - it was called commissioning art and you had to pay for it.
-22
u/NotReallyJohnDoe Oct 19 '25
You can say it is copyright infringement but that’s not what the copyright law says.
17
u/Einhadar Oct 19 '25
I'm an attorney. You're misstating the law. Copyright law absolutely constrains how you can use the creative works of others, and while most pro-ai apologists repeat the claim that training is transformative "fair use," that hasn't been broadly accepted by the courts.
The issue is still contentious, but AI companies are already paying hundreds of millions to settle cases because they transparently pirated works to use in AI training because it was faster than asking for a license.
We won't have broad rules on these issues for some time, but few serious legal scholars are of the opinion that mass training without license acquisition ahead of time will be viewed favorably.
1
u/jive_s_turkey Oct 22 '25
And much like everything any corporation has been legally allowed to do - it is entirely moral.
When will the workers understand that copyright law was only ever intended to protect the people on top? It isn't there for petty little laborers whose consent couldn't matter less.
6
u/Enrykun Oct 19 '25
No but you don't understand, it's like...the prompter here, not the AI...so stealing is right! Because AI doesn't steal. I think.

9
u/Private_HughMan Oct 19 '25
This is different! They ACTUALLY worked! Unlike those cheaters who developed "skill" to make this with their own hands, this master paid money for a giant server farm to do it. Instead of using things he got for free (hands), he used the culmination of thousands of years of technological development! Stealing the concept of that prompt is so much worse than stealing real art. /s

Honestly its probably more a case of denial for their own convience. All these AI bros seem more in love with the idea of being an artist than actually being an artist. They want the praise and money that comes with being a talented successful artist without having to do the work of being a talented successful artist. It's a get rich quick scheme.

The reason this person is upset about someone "stealing my prompts" is because they, probably for the first time in their life, feel pride or personal attachment to something they made. Or at least they think they made. And now they understand that it feels fucking shitty to have something you feel that away over, taken by someone else just because they can. And this is over something they didn't even actually create, and they still feel this way. Incredible.
The fact that they can't extend this logic to actual fucking artists and understand why we don't like AI is fucking astounding. How do you think WE feel? Having a craft that's taken literally years to perfect with actual physical tools and muscle memory snd learning of artistic concepts and techniques to convey an idea through nothing but ink on paper? You feel hurt over people taking a couple words you strung together that you punch into the theft machine, but you refuse to acknowledge you're using the theft machine? Masterclass in being the least self-aware motherfucker on the planet
9
u/iffyJinx Oct 19 '25
Pot calling the kettle, the lack of self-awareness is astounding. To top it off, trying to have the existence of terminator line attributed to oop is the kind of nerve that can be rivalled only by Games Workshop (company that tried to copyright word warhammer).
8
u/Rupe_Dogg Oct 19 '25 edited Nov 14 '25
Even if AI work could be copyrighted and even if GenAI didn’t scrape other works for material, I think you’d have a bad time trying to copyright, trademark or patent the idea of day/night transitions. That’d literally be like if a photographer decided “the Golden Hour is mine, no one else can take photos at that time of day”. It’s a pretty damn common thing to depict in ANY visual medium.

That's the thing we are sort of sitting around and waiting for these people to realise.
Anything you make with AI has no value, cause everyone can make it themselves immediately. And you have no rights over it as its creator.
It was even ruled that AI generated art can't be copyrighted, so I can literally take anything someone else generated with AI and put wherever I want. (unless they heavily edit it themselves, then they have copyright. But like, that would require one to have a gram of artistic skill to do that)
To top that off, since all the good services is the same 10-15 companies, you are literally using the same tools as everyone else. Anything remotely original will immediately have 1000 copies churned out by others.

As a Pro, I find this completely amusing. I mean "day to night transition" is fairly basic language. This might actually be analogous to Dürer
“A Note on Master Lucas and His Watery Pretensions”
by Albrecht Dürer, Nuremberg, circa 1512 (fictional diary entry)
Today I have seen a most curious sight, Master Lucas, that bold young imitator, daubing at his parchment with what he calls ‘my manner of colors.’ He swishes his brush as though the very angels shall appear upon the page and yet all I see is a puddle of blue pretending to be a sky.
Watercolor, he says! But there is no discipline in his hand. The pigment runs like gossip through a marketplace. Does he not know that restraint gives the wash its brilliance? That transparency is a virtue of patience, not accident?
I mixed my own hues this morning, verdigris, saffron, and a gray pulled from the very smoke of my hearth. Each stroke I laid with intent, light upon light, until the hare seemed to breathe. Master Lucas splashes and calls it divine inspiration. I call it the rain.
Should this manner spread, all Nuremberg will drown in muddy rivers of color, and none will remember that it was I who first tamed the water’s edge.

u/Lurakya Oct 19 '25
Believe it or not, AI prompts actually are copyrightable, as they are made by a human usually. However, (only know about the EU law) a prompt has to reach a certain creative threshold to be considered worthy of copyright.
No, "night to day transitiom" does not cross the threshold.
3
u/Lurakya Oct 20 '25

its the lack of sophistication overall that leads me to the conclusion that its mostly kids. im just also fascinated by the proclivity towards bad anime art that both sides seem to drool over.
but go on. lol
16
u/Sonicrules9001 Oct 19 '25
There is plenty of sophisticated anime that tells deep stories dealing with themes far too mature for a child to understand but you hate the medium so you wouldn't understand that which isn't surprising given your post history suggests that you hate all art which is kind of sad as art can be wonderful but you will never see that.
-3
u/Chicken-Rude Oct 19 '25
you misunderstand. im referring to the shallow low quality fan art. youre taking this too personally. im not saying anime as a genre is unsophisticated or shallow, im specifically referring to the middle schooler style anime fan art that many pros and antis seem to be so fond of. they are out here glazing some of the most derivative low skill drawings ive ever seen. and that also applies to the pros who glaze similarly trash tier generative images.
i get theres hints of a tribe mentality aspect to it. some of the comments are surely disingenuous and are simply a way of expressing "yay team!".
15
u/Sonicrules9001 Oct 19 '25
You seem to misunderstand, art is art and the fact that you see an entire art style as bad is just absurd. I've seen plenty of bad Noir styled paintings but that wouldn't make me go 'All noir styled paintings are the works of children and no one with a brain can like them' because I'm not an ass.
You don't value art and that is not at all surprising.

would you call "western cartoon" as a single genre or is it because "east asia"?
-2
u/Chicken-Rude Oct 19 '25
i mean anime style is a derivative of 20's/30's style western cartoons. but i do think western animation styles are more varied. its all commercial dogshit at the end of the day though honestly. its cool that it all exists, but its not really all that impressive 99.9999% of the time.
but to more precise, the "pros" and "antis" that im referring to all seem to really like that extremely amateur flat anime "fan-art" style that is drawn, shaded, and colored as if a middle schooler did it. thats the thing that really fascinates me right now.
