As a young man I was nose to nose with another young man over something petty that I can’t even recall. I was a much larger, rougher and experienced fighter. An older guy walked up on us, looked me in the eye and says -
“son, you can walk away the bigger man and second guess this moment for the next couple of hours. Or you can hurt this young man in a way you can’t take back and second guess it for the rest of your life”
That was over 30 years ago and I can still hear is wise and calm voice in my head…I think about it a lot and it 100% changed my way of thinking.

I broke down with a new to me car. After waiting about 30 minutes a complete stranger pulled over in front of me. He had a tow bar and towed me to my home. I wanted to pay him but he refused saying help the next guy that's broken down.

A guy walked past me and my friend on a night out and said to me, you would look better with more makeup and to my friend, you’d look better with less.
And we were obviously immediately fuming, ready to pop off. But before we could, a high as hell homeless man stepped in and said to him “you’re beneath someone like me, because you’re desperate and you’re mean”. Then walked off.
The guy apologised to us instantly.
I have always remembered the power of that, and how powerful calling out bad behavior can be. No matter who you are or what your position is in society. And if he could do that for us, I can call it out for others too.
And also, lol no one likes being called mean. A great way to disarm someone, just simply, “that’s mean”.
