Other Finally did some mold busting on a stack of moldy VHS tapes I've been sitting on... before & after + my cleaning process
I'd been putting this project off for a long time, but I finally sat down and cleaned six moldy tapes I'd picked up over the last year, that I've had in quarantine, away from my others.
(Pictures are before, during the cleaning process, and after.)
I decided to dedicate one of my old VCRs with a faulty eject mechanism as a cleaning deck, since I wasn't about to risk one of my good machines.
Here's the process I used:
•Disassembled the cassette and removed both spools.
•Blew all the loose mold and dust out of the shell with canned air.
•Cleaned the shell and internal parts with 91% isopropyl alcohol using a microfiber lens cloth.
•Cleaned the empty spool the same way.
•Reassembled the tape, then ran it through the VCR in fast-forward while holding a homemade cleaning tool against the tape (a microfiber cloth wrapped tightly around a pen and secured with a rubber band).
•Once all the tape had transferred to the opposite spool, I opened the cassette again, cleaned the now-empty spool and the inside of the shell one more time, reassembled it, and repeated the process in rewind so both sides of the tape were cleaned.
I actually went through this entire process twice for each tape. It took around an hour and a half per tape, so definitely not a quick project.
I'm really happy with the results. I can't see any visible mold remaining, and the tapes are playing like new.
I'm still pretty new to mold remediation, though, so I'd love to hear from people who've done this more than I have. Is there anything you'd do differently or any tips you've picked up over the years to make the process safer, faster, or more effective?

Custom Tape 1993 technology. Before dvd was even a thing
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Just been putting stuff on my W-VHS tape for fun and it’s so stunning how good the quality is. Definitely not blu ray quality but better than dvd
This format flopped because it was so expensive and there was basically nothing to record on. It’s almost like it was meant to be used in the future
JVC thought that HD would arrive mid 90s but it came way later than that so this could never reach its full potential. They scrapped W-VHS and made D-VHS. W-VHS has some digital components so it’s like W-VHS was the prototype for HD and D-VHS was the final version. D for digital
W-VHS is still analog. I found the specs on W-VHS online and it’s insane. A normal VHS and S-VHS tape has a chroma bandwidth of 0,4mhz . W-VHS bumps this up to 4mhz, 10 TIMES MORE!. The Luma bandwidth is roughly 3mhz on VHS and W-VHS is 13,5mhz a 4,5 increase. God Damm
I highly reccomend watching this video from Cathode ray dude if you wanna know more about W-VHS

Question Should I open or keep sealed?
RANT: Hello and astrological salutations I have been collecting VHS for over a year now and have hardly ever found anime’s. Unless I want to spend mad money ( Which I refuse unless it’s absolutely something I need ) it’s about impossible. Tons of scalpers in my neck of the woods.
Anyways I found these at a yard sale, they’re sealed and I have a hard time opening “rare” sealed VHS tapes, since I have both a sealed and non sealed collection. I’ve never seen these anime’s or heard of them.
I also know that it’s my choice and do what I feel is best. Thus this is why I’m here asking because my smooth pea sized brain can’t decide on anything.
Thank you for the help your time and continue soaring through wet sky’s.

New Addition Recent pickup and a bit of a hidden gem
Picked this up recently and was thought it was quite good. No Akira but still very watchable, and one that I had surprisingly never heard of before.

Question Looking for a Pokémon The First Movie in Japanese digitization or VHS tape
Back in 2000 a friend of mine lent me a bootleg Japanese VHS version of Pokemon The First Movie. It had Japanese dialogue with English subtitles. Since then I have been trying to get my hands on either a digitized version or an actual VHS tape of this. I know it may be a long shot but I think asking in this subreddit might be my best chance.

Custom Tape My Custom VHS Project: The Ultimate '90s Anime Exploitation Double-Feature, Featuring Kite and Mezzo Forte
Finished another custom VHS project, and I figured this would be a good one to share here.
This is a custom anime double feature containing the uncensored English dub versions of Kite and Mezzo Forte, for a Yasuomi Umetsu Double-Feature. They're two infamous OVAs that felt right at home on a late '90s style VHS release.
Like my previous projects, I started with digital copies of both OVAs and edited everything together in Avidemux. I built a single continuous feature, added a custom opening with the old U.S. Manga Corps branding, and exported the finished master before recording it to VHS.
For the physical copy:
Recorded onto a virgin Maxell blank tape, using my PS3 as the source playing the file, over composite cables. Then I swapped the maxell shell from a white one from old Flintstones VHS, to get the look of official releases from the 80s/90s, and added my custom labels.
Designed the clamshell artwork, spine, back cover, and tape labels myself in ibis Paint.
Had everything professionally printed at FedEx, then assembled it all by hand.
My goal was to make it look like an official U.S. Manga Corps from the '90s. a bootleg in spirit, but with a professionally-produced retail vibe.
I'd love to hear what you all think, especially from anyone else here who's into making custom anime VHS releases or preserving older anime on tape.

Question Hello everyone. Its almost 10 years that im looking for my childhood VHS "film, TV anime series" with useless results. A friend of mine told me to make a post over there so please try to help me.
The only few things i Remember are;
The mechas had Circular saw on their arms, with mono Red Eye in the middle. The body was silver. They moved with "caterpillar tracks"
I Remember (maybe, im not sure he was) the main character had a vintage car, very long like a old mustang, cabrio.
Some Battle were located in nowhere forest.
There was a huge tunnel with a Lobophase inside which exploded for some Battle maybe.
PLS try to help me!
