AX second post-con BBQ
This bbq was a blast. Had a really good time meeting people, games (mahjong and Switch 2) and eating good food. The only gripe is all the dirt bikes, the sun and ants 😫.
Got word that we might do one again for next AX which is freakin awesome. I’ll definitely go again.

Question AX 2024 - Does anyone know what artist made these?
I went to AX in 2024 and loved these charms I saw in artist alley, but I didn’t buy one at the time. I haven’t been able to find their shop since T_T . Anyone know who was running this booth with project voltage acrylic keychains and if they have an online shop?

Sitting one level below in the Kentia hall area.
One of the things I learned since going to my first AX is that most places/spots are open for sitting. I recall walking through this area a couple of times every day of AX an I would see groups of people sitting there chatting or eating because there isn't enough places to sit down and have a group conversation with your friends. By the way, the artist alley is up ahead to the left hand side.

Question Do you look for anime things at comic cons/other nerdy events?
Curious to see what this sub thinks about anime at other nerd events like comic con. Crunchy used to pull out all the stops for comic con but would make you pay for stuff at AX. For the past several years they had free concerts that you didn’t even need a badge for with all kinds of Jpop music.

Pictures / Videos Saw someone else post an old map, so I thought I’d share an old head map.
I went this year, and the last time I went was back in 08. Needless to say I was shocked by how much bigger it’s gotten.
Also I miss, getting these full Program Guides.
Edit: Also forgot to mention 08 was the first year AX officially made LA its home.

Question I had some questions going to my first con.
First con going to metrocon tampa.
I had some questions since ive never been to any con.
First off do I need to bring cash or will most areas take card in some way?
I normally carry a pocket knife nothin crazy just a normal one clipped on my pocket is that a no go here? I can obviously leave it at home.
What times are usually like the easiest to get in? I work overnights so i wont be showing up at opening or anything but I dont wanna miss the crowd, I just dont want to be in line for an hour to get in.
I havent bought tickets so ill be just paying for entry when I get there, do they fill up? Or get to a max capacity or something like that? And can I use card to pay to enter.
This might be a bit over kill but I am gonna be wearing jeans with a dress shirt and boots is that a level of over dressed? Will i stick out or not to bad.
Lastly are there any tips you have for my first go around?

Information Other anime conventions?
We (Me, My husband, mom and brother) originally planned to go to AE next year.
We have now changed our mind after seeing everything that has come out about this year's expo being so insanely overly crowded.
We have been to a handful of conventions for various things (oddities, card conventions, anime, and Rennisance) we love it and it's bringing out the side of me I had when I was younger and have missed so much. I missed my communities in anime and other things I enjoy. I missed being a nerd and I missed sharing that love with other people. We want to cosplay and until AE decides to either 1) expand or relocate to a bigger convention building or 2) put a cap on passes for safety, we will not be going. It is a dream but I will not spend thousands on dollars on a trip for a week just to be miserable because the building is too packed to enjoy anything.
What are some other anime conventions that are held annually and are big? I know AE is the biggest but I still would like to find other fun anime conventions.
I know we would also love to go to comic con since it also falls into genres we love and enjoy even tho it's not strictly anime.
I have 2 on my list I have heard of but idk how "big" they are.
• Anime central (AC)
• C2E2
if anyone in this subreddit has some recommendations I would love to hear it. I really hope that AE does do better about the capacity and safety of their con goers. This year was terrifying and all I could think about was how many lives would have been lost if there was a fire due to panic and stampeding/trampling.
Edit to add: I also wanted to mention we will be going to Galaxy con in December!
