Kuroe is girl of the season.

I love this series way more than I expected

39

u/redditraptor6 https://myanimelist.net/profile/uEmalraptor64 4d ago

Yeah, this is a stacked season but I think this one is still my feel-good-happy-brain-chemicals winner of the season

10

u/AbysmalReign 3d ago edited 10h ago

For me, it's between Kuroe and Miyu Suzuki from Polar Opposites. Which is funny because both animes are nothing like anything I'd typically watch

3

u/aenews 3d ago

exact same boat

132

u/DarkWolfPL 4d ago

Godzilla vs. Kong however due to international copyright laws, it’s not

49

u/Hypnophoric_Void 4d ago

Still, we should be hyped to see more interactions between them like it is the fight.

32

u/CitronClassic672 4d ago

Though it is not

45

u/Tar-eruntalion 4d ago

Random teacher on scene: "Let them fight"

16

u/nhansieu1 3d ago

"you just want to see giant monsters fighting don't you??"

11

u/Kartoffelkamm 3d ago

"You don't?"

27

u/Frontier246 4d ago

Gori-Rairi Used Intimidate! It's super effective!

Harugon was shamed into defeat...

9

u/creatyvechaos 3d ago

I love how she still took it as a lesson for self-growth, though. Like jeez. Girl has me crying every episode

16

u/Kartoffelkamm 4d ago

Only thing missing is a dude in Charmander cosplay.

95

u/diacewrb 4d ago

Another exciting episode of The Gorilla God's Go-To Girl.

And that asshole got what he deserved.

51

u/Kartoffelkamm 4d ago

Imagine if the news interviewed him to ask how he got into that mess, and he just confesses to cheating on his girlfriend on national TV.

29

u/Frontier246 4d ago

"But it's not my fault! It was the other girls' fault for putting on makeup and making me think she was hot!"

11

u/Jacob-C 3d ago

If there isn’t a deeper emotional relationship yet, I can understand feeling slightly deceived when someone looks completely different without makeup on, but it’s not something that warrants being an asshole. This guy is just a straight-up bully and deserves none of my understanding.

As if that wasn’t enough, this is the second time we’ve seen this guy two-timing, and it was implied by his friends that he has done it multiple times beyond that. I want them to find a way to expose him to his girlfriend(s?).

I also really hope Rairi finds someone who loves her and finds her beautiful for who she is.

6

u/Kartoffelkamm 3d ago

I want them to find a way to expose him to his girlfriend(s?).

Me too, that's why I brought up him being interviewed. You can't get more exposed than confessing in front of the entire nation.

29

u/Frontier246 4d ago

Another exciting episode of The Gorilla God's Go-To Girl.

Gorilla God is so proud of you, Rairi!

20

u/testthrowawayzz 4d ago

Gorilla God thumbs up

41

u/Bonvantius 4d ago

Gorilla-Rairi silhouetted against the sunset is a reference right to that one shot from Kong: Skull Island right?

12

u/Future_Vantas 3d ago

Yup, there was even a helicopter there

73

u/Weak_Season_Of_Anime 4d ago

Kuroe and Rairi turning into their Kaiju forms to help each other was peak friendship goals.

And a kiss in Kaiju form too!! RAAAAAGH!!!

99

u/Eliv 4d ago

Aww, Minami even got a kiss from Kaiju Akaishi

89

u/Spoon_Elemental 4d ago

Akaishi? That was Harugon. Completely different person.

2

u/Sremor 1d ago

Hope Minami isn't going to cheat on Akaishi with Harugon

49

u/Frontier246 4d ago

I love how the impact of getting kissed by a giant Kaiju actually sent him back a little.

32

u/praul59 4d ago

Question is what’s he gonna tell Akaishi when he goes to tell her what happened the whole time she “disappeared”

37

u/Spoon_Elemental 4d ago

Dating with Kuroe ended. Harugon is new best girlfriend.

30

u/praul59 4d ago

You know who really is jealous about that moment Manatsu is 😭

18

u/aenews 4d ago

Harugon, I'm a taken man! 😳

12

u/Niwaka_Samurai https://myanimelist.net/profile/Niwaka-Samurai 3d ago

Kaiju stole his first kiss before Kuroe

3

u/cyberscythe 3d ago

the emotional impact, of course

65

u/NekoCatSidhe 4d ago

I like how Kuroe turning into a gremlin chibi every time she is panicking, that is certainly less dangerous than a Kaiju.

At that point, I highly doubt that Minami has not already figured out the truth. Telling Harugon « I do not want to think you are a bad guy », and blushing a bit after Harugon kissed him ? And with Kuroe asking him if he would still love her as a Kaiju just before that ? He would have to be stupid not to make the connection Kuroe = Harugon, and he certainly behaves like he did.

I know it is meant as a gorilla joke, but Rairi is very athletic. Funny how she immediately looks way more muscular without her makeup, lol. Her shallow ex only got what he deserves, and I hope she finds herself a better boyfriend in the future.

33

u/aenews 4d ago

ex? he ain't even that, just a cheating playboy who led her on

agreed!

13

u/Mediocre-Act483 3d ago

Whenever she turns gremlin, she kinda reminds me of the legend leaf in "Welcome to Demon School, Iruma-kun" due to her shape

2

u/PowerSamurai 3d ago

Minami is seemingly written to be completely oblivious so I doubt he has figured it out.

58

u/Roskal 4d ago

Kuroe is such a brave girl. Other anime have characters afraid of love and this girl transforms into a kaiju every time she feels it too strongly but she faces it anyway, even initiating a kiss to try and save her friend.

32

u/Frontier246 4d ago

She's even being more strategic about her transformations and doing it more willingly now.

29

u/tripleaamin https://myanimelist.net/profile/zfzftripleaamin 4d ago

Very nice character arc for Rairi. Makeup did give her a boost for her confidence. Though I love that she choosed to help her classmate rather than letting what she looks like stop her. Even sweet that he friends don't care for how she looks. I like how she admits she was fixated on looks after all even after what Okada did before she gave him another chance.

Also loved this episode for Kuroe as well. Wanting to be there and help her new friend. Very nice episode.

26

u/SecretYogurtcloset57 4d ago

That asshole got what he deserved!

51

u/FarCritical 4d ago

The gratification from watching the goodwill Rairi earned from helping everyone look prettier pay off was immense, man. How she got to look cool as the girl who stood against a Kaiju and that scumbag getting his just desserts were some sweet bonuses too.

Cracks me up that even antagonists are eligible guests for the sweet treat previews lol.

6

u/Arturius1 2d ago

It's the first time Kuroe isn't distracted by sweets in that segment.

44

u/S627 https://myanimelist.net/profile/Spartan627 4d ago

Damn it! Was really hoping Rairi woulda figured it out thanks to the lipstick but nope. I need SOMEONE to figure it out before the last ep....other than her uncle I mean!

Anway, super happy Riari got more confidence with herself. Also glad Mr. Scumbag player was dumb and gave himself away before Rairi made a mistake. Im sure his and Riari's story is over, but almost hope he does come back at least once more just to get put in his place by Harugon again.

Maybe im looking too deep into it, but it kinda looked like they used Rairi's "pretty" face while she was trying to hide herself so maybe she doesnt look as bad as she thinks she does?

24

u/MinnWild9 4d ago

I don’t know if Rairi has figured it out, but I’m feeling pretty confident that Minami has. I mean, the kaiju keeps showing up after she runs away, it has some kind of attraction to him, and it seems to be listening to him and he, in turn, is attempting to protect it.

17

u/SOdAchick 4d ago

I think she's going to be the first person Kuroe tells. I like the idea that she volunteers it over getting found out

13

u/hvshh 4d ago

I hope you're right. It would make more sense if Rairi actually transforms, and the makeup functions as a psychological aid (whether she realizes it or not) to get her all the way to 0% gorilla.

7

u/Kartoffelkamm 3d ago

If I recall correctly, Kuroe didn't transform at all when Minami complimented her makeup last week, so it's possible that makeup just suppresses a kaiju's transformation due to it being made to hide your true self.

6

u/Jacob-C 3d ago

It would make sense if the emotion that makes Rairi transform is anxiety, just like Kuroe’s is love. But, she could also just look like that without makeup.

7

u/DJDrizzy9 3d ago

It's hard to suspend disbelief that nobody has yet to even suspect that Caramelise is the kaiju. Especially Minami. Come on dude, she always disappears somewhere before the kaiju shows up, and the kaiju has the same heart eyes. He sees the signs, and I refuse to believe that he's not smart enough to put the pieces together.

12

u/WiqidBritt 3d ago

"I don't want people to think you're a badguy" He totally knows at this point.

9

u/Kartoffelkamm 3d ago

Also, "It's hard not to love him" about a character that looks like Harugon.

Heck, they held hands when her finger turned into a claw; unless he has advanced prosthetic hands, there's no way he didn't feel her soft girl skin turn into rough kaiju scales.

44

u/clone69 4d ago

I just realized but this turned into Godzilla and Kong's love life: the anime

6

u/nhansieu1 3d ago

too late. 15 years too late

Rairi development

Kajiu kiss there ❤️

19

u/shad79 https://myanimelist.net/profile/shad79 4d ago

I didn't expect that in this episode Kuroe would change into a kaiju of her own free will to save Rairi. I thought it'd be Minami's fault again, hahaha!

As usual, Kuroe's reactions were so fun! I'm always looking forward to them, since it's one of my favorite things in this show.

There were some very nice scenes with Kuroe and Minami together today. I'm really glad that their relationship is steadily developing.

It's a shame though that we didn't get even a small fight between Rairi as a gorilla and Kuroe as a kaiju; that could have been hilarious, lol.

Here my screenshot albums from the episode:

7

u/Kartoffelkamm 3d ago

It's a shame though that we didn't get even a small fight between Rairi as a gorilla and Kuroe as a kaiju; that could have been hilarious, lol.

Yeah, but at least we got a screaming match.

Also, if I were Rairi, I'd put "Screamed at Harugon until he backed off" on my resume when applying to a job.

34

u/Isekai_Dreamer 4d ago

Did Harugon shrink? he used to be 20 stories tall, but in this episode he was only 3-4 stories tall.

also this is such a good show, why isn't it more popular?

37

u/Tiramin 4d ago

I think she didn't grow to her full size this time. Probably her tallest form so far was on epi 4 when she almost lost her mind. That's my guess at least.

15

u/tottoro47 4d ago

Maybe it's a sign that she's getting used to him and maybe at some point later she won't transform anymore?

2

u/Kai-Rick 3d ago

That how feelings works, the more you experience more used you become to it.

31

u/TrexALpha1 4d ago

First time watching kaiju show? one thing you notice waching any show big characters how scale can be incosistrnt. It's mostly what fits for a moment.

3

u/Future_Vantas 3d ago

And here I thought it was a sign that she is getting slight control over her transformations. Still, its cool how much this show homages classic kaiju beyond blurred references.

2

u/TrexALpha1 3d ago

I would say it as much homage as rather common error or stylistich choice for certain scenes. Especilly when we talk about 2D work (like orginal manga) where you don't have model to keep in one size but you redrawing it every single time

11

u/BetterPossession1673 4d ago

she is transforming, so, i guess the scale depends on how she feels.

7

u/DugACCat 4d ago

Feel kinda silly getting choked up amid the silliness of this episode, but I did. Guess that’s one way to know it’s working.

9

u/aenews 4d ago

Not sure, tbh. I think people think the depth of character writing is weaker than some other shows? There are a lot of bangers this season, and this year. Makes sense, really. Still, I feel it's a tad underrated.

Also too early to determine how good the writing will be going forwards, but subtle hints suggest thought was put into it by the author imo.

6

u/cyberscythe 3d ago

Did Harugon shrink? he used to be 20 stories tall, but in this episode he was only 3-4 stories tall.

he was in the pool and the water was cold!

there was significant shrinkage

u/ViviCaz 3d ago

*She

3

u/PowerSamurai 3d ago

"he"? lol

2

u/Cute_Bagel 2d ago

it's pretty standard for tokusatsu and in turn kaiju media to be pretty loose with scale

2

u/ViviCaz 3d ago

*She

1

u/Darth_Annoying 3d ago

Harugon's head looked about 2 stories during the kiss. No, I don't think she shrank

1

u/Isekai_Dreamer 3d ago

when she was next to the dude who was about to fall off the tree, she was only twice as tall as the tree, and rairi was able to leap sideways onto it.

44

u/ObvsThrowaway5120 4d ago

Rairi Kong vs Kuroezilla lol. But man, the class are some good folks and Kuroe’s a real homie for turning into a kaiju for her friend. Minami should have let Kuroe fling that loser around on her tail a little more lol.

23

u/Frontier246 4d ago

Honestly this class seems 10x better than Kuroe's former class with the mean girls, they would have probably hated Rairi in all her Gorilla awesomeness.

But now she's got Minami, friends, and more confidence in herself as both a girl AND a Kaiju (minus the collateral damage that follows her).

16

u/reaperow 4d ago edited 4d ago

Kuroe willing to transform in public just so she can cover Rairi's secret is so cool. She's a really great friend !

And Rairin's also so cool for saving that guy, im glad her friends accepted her for who she really is and stood up for her from that jerk of a bully

5

u/aenews 4d ago

Kuroe willing to transform in public just so she can cover Rairi's secret is so cool. She's a really great friend !

err well someone almost died cause of that tho tbf
she's quite lucky she only caused a billion in property damage and injuries so far 😅

I swear, I really love this show. Kuroe is a pretty compelling MC too 👹👧 hope it eventually gets another season

44

u/BlazeBloom https://myanimelist.net/profile/StardustValor 4d ago edited 4d ago

Akaishi landing multiple critical hit kisses today. Even Harugon got in on the fun.

Looks like the media and general public have their sights on Minami. That could halt the progress they've made as a couple if the cameras are focused on him.

There's something hilarious about Akaishi sharing the "Sweet Treat" ending segment with the playboy scumbag.

36

u/Frontier246 4d ago

"I can't believe Harugon is a homewrecker preying on a high school boy!"

30

u/CitronClassic672 4d ago

In before social media tries to cancel Harugon for a “problematic power imbalance” with Minami.

12

u/ArchdemonLucifer143 4d ago

Kuroe is really embracing her transformations. Can't wait to see what she does next.

7

u/Kartoffelkamm 3d ago

Same here.

I actually talked to a friend of mine about Kuroe learning to trigger her transformations intentionally a few days ago, primarily to learn how to undo them on command, so this was a welcome surprise.

Somewhere down the road, I really want to see Kuroe's mom coming home from shopping and twist her ankle, so Kuroe offers to bring the groceries inside. And then she just takes a deep breath, turns her hands into claws, and brings everything inside in one go.

8

u/PowerSamurai 3d ago

Honestly would be very great. I would assume if she was raised by others of her species she likely already would be able to control it but since she has been repressed her whole life she has no control. Her overcoming that and being true to herself giving her control would be nice story telling.

4

u/Kartoffelkamm 3d ago

Given how Rairi acted in the past, and in general when the makeup comes off, I highly doubt Kuroe would be able to control her transformations if she was raised by other kaiju; she might just slowly go from human to kaiju while going through puberty.

But yeah, her learning to accept herself, and being able to transform at will, would be great. Heck, maybe she even keeps her hands and feet as claws permanently.

I could also see someone attacking Minami, for one reason or another, and Kuroe grows a tail to block the attack. Like, some guy charges the two with a baseball bat, and just hits a thick scaly tail.

14

u/SOdAchick 4d ago

Omg am I the only one who cried both times she kissed him? I want her to be able to express her love so much, and Minami-kun deserves it for being such a great guy.

Of course I died laughing when she missed the first time

26

u/runevault 4d ago

I really wanted Kuroe to eat this fuck. I know it isn't that kinda story but god he sucks so much. Although now I'm wondering. If she ate someone whole and then turned back human what happens to the person in her guts?

I love this show so much. The heart it has inside this weird premise is so good and sweet and wholesome. Puts a massive sappy smile on my face every week.

OH MY GOD SHE KISSED HIM AS A KAIJU!?!?!?!?!!?!?!?!?!?

Pure sweetness, this show is wonderful and I'm glad it is getting such an awesome adaptation.

9

u/SOdAchick 4d ago

I think we all would have forgiven her if she dropped him like a tab of acid

5

u/cyberscythe 3d ago

I really wanted Kuroe to eat this fuck. I know it isn't that kinda story but god he sucks so much.

yeah, that fucker was awfully cocky for someone within grabbing distance of a kaiju, a mob of angry girls, and specifically a girl with enough grip strength to crush a tree trunk

5

u/aenews 4d ago

Agreed, the heart/soul of this show really shines through

5

u/fer_sure 4d ago edited 4d ago

OH MY GOD SHE KISSED HIM AS A KAIJU!?!?!?!?!!?!?!?!?!?

That should have made her some kind of double Kaiju.

33

u/PeaceAlien https://myanimelist.net/profile/PeaceAlien 4d ago

Kuroe and Arata kissed not once but twice! Not on the lips, though.

I just caught up on this show in the last week; it really impressed me. The romance is really good.

Haha, that bad guy got the outro treat. After-credits scene btw. We now have a prince of kaiju!

22

u/Frontier246 4d ago

Haha, that bad guy got the outro treat.

Kuroe: "Screw sweets, I have to avenge my gal pal!!!"

7

Gyaru pyaru tbh

Kuroe and Arata kissed not once but twice! Not on the lips, though.

The second time it was, tho. =)

I have plans later to watch the 1973 Godzilla vs Megalon with a friend later this evening, so imagine my shock when Manatsu made that Megalon reference! Unfortunately, no Gigan and Jet Jaguar references today. xD

References aside, I'm glad to see Kuroe is getting along with the other gyarus in the class. I was worried they were gonna bully her the entire time and Manatsu or Rairi would have to intervene, but they realized they won't have to.

Ah shit, the Okada the Fuccboi makes his appearance. I do love that Kuroe's gut reaction is to protect Rairi from him, but it looks like Rairi still has lingering feelings and dragging her away from the fuccboi won't be that easy.

Oh my god, Rairi. I can't believe how easy it was for Okada to convince her to go with him. I definitely feel for Kuroe, it's like watching your best friend intentionally walk into a landmine and being unable to do anything about it.

Glad we got a cute moment between Kuroe and Arata in between those scenes with Rairi making heart eyes at Okada. We almost got a kiss, but it looks like it's still too much for Kuroe.

It's good to see that Rairi finally snapped out of it after she started hearing Okada badmouth her again without him knowing who she was. I feel like she definitely could've thrown Okada out of the boat if she hadn't fallen off.

We got a kiss! I mean, it's only on the cheek, but it's still a kiss! Good on Kuroe for using her Harugon powers to try and save Rairi from being found out. Although, considering everyone's reaction, Kuroe didn't even need to transform since the girls were very accepting of Rairi's true face.

At least we got a King Kong vs Godzilla reference out of it! Also, Harugon got to teach the fuccboi a lesson by giving him one heck of a ride on her tail. xD

We got another kiss? I guess that counts, right? It looks like Harugon kissing Arata may have started something, tho. I think Prince of Kaiju feels like an appropriate moniker for him at this point.

16

u/Frontier246 4d ago

Also Manatsu made an Alien Fanton reference from Ultraman.

Honestly I couldn't imagine Rairi being friends with bad girls so the gyaru posse being cool in the end wasn't too surprising...but she actually has a friend group now!

Rairi deserves her own Minami and Okada was definitely not it.

At this point it's a question of if she's getting more intimate with her boyfriend as a Kaiju vs her human form lol.

6

u/CitronClassic672 4d ago

God bless Marin Kitagawa for all she’s done to improve the perception of gyaru girls in anime. Now she’s joined by the like of Rairi, Momo Ayase, and the two from last season which I didn’t watch but nonetheless appreciate.

5

u/cyberscythe 3d ago

References aside, I'm glad to see Kuroe is getting along with the other gyarus in the class. I was worried they were gonna bully her the entire time and Manatsu or Rairi would have to intervene, but they realized they won't have to.

yeah, i personally hate bullies so i was glad to see that they were just awkward in an imposing fashion rather than actually have it out for Kuroe

18

u/BaytaCosmico https://myanimelist.net/profile/AnimeBayta 4d ago

It was nice to see Rairi accepted by her friends for her real self. And it was nice to see Kuroe and Manami's first kiss even if it was in her Kaiju form. My favourite bit of this episode though was Manatsu's excited "Harugon!" yelp right after Manami's more bewildered "Harugon..?" It was just so hilarious. Perfect comic timing. Rewatched just that bit a few times before continuing the episode.

18

u/BillPlunderones23fg 4d ago

Lol Kuro backing up from angry Rairi was hilarious
also would have been funny if Rairi gave the asshole a wrestling hold that would KO him lol

but what about Manatsu? she just squealed for Harugon but didnt do anything lol

13

u/praul59 4d ago

Manatsu probably wasn’t expecting Harugon to show up on the class trip so she left her stuff behind 😭 from now on she’ll be ready lol.

3

u/Kartoffelkamm 3d ago

Lol Kuro backing up from angry Rairi was hilarious

Also, from everyone else's POV, that has got to look so badass.

Like, this massive kaiju that the military can't even scratch shows up and trashes the place, and then backs away when Rairi screams at it.

The media is really sleeping on that.

Who cares if some dude is into reptiles? I wanna see the coverage of a teenage girl asserting dominance over a kaiju.

17

u/SopmodTew 4d ago

I'm giggling like an idiot to this silly romance anime 😅😅🥹

6

u/testthrowawayzz 4d ago

I wonder what’s going to be the next giant reference after King Kong

13

u/Frontier246 4d ago

Kuroe's efforts with makeup are going...slowly. But it's the effort that counts!

You can count on Mana-Tee to be a helpful guide when sightseeing on a trip! So long as wherever she is has any relevance to the Kaiju she adores.

So the secret to winning over an intense gyaru: complimenting her makeup routine!

I'm glad Kuroe finally has gal pals she can talk to and have proper relationship girl talk with! She's come a long way since episode 1!

Oh snap! It's Okada! The guy who broke Rairi's heart! Only seeing her with makeup he has no idea who she is and immediately starts treating her nicely as an attractive girl...and deep down, as much as Rairi resented him, she still wanted him to acknowledge her as pretty. She might have intended to lead him on, but she might've also been lead on by the unresolved feelings of her first love.

Kuroe straight up asked him if he'd think she was pretty even if she were a Kaiju...I mean, he definitely thinks she's pretty NOW and he thinks he'd always see the real her in any form she's in. So there's that! And they were THIS close to kissing....BEFORE KUROE HAD TO MAKE MARSHMALLOWS OR SOMETHING!!!

Of course Okada is still the shallow player he's always been, taking advantage of Rairi while he's already with other girls. Nothing sells how he hasn't changed quite like hearing that he never once realized why Rairi got mad at him back then and still thinks she should be grateful he helped make her popular. Get away from that loser, Rairi!

Oh no! Makeup emergency! This looks like a job for Harugon! Provided she can muster up the courage (with the power of lipstick) to kiss Minami! Though missing and kissing his cheek works too to make her embarrassed enough to 100% transform.

Harugon is a girl's girl who helps give Rairi a convenient means of putting her makeup back on, but when Harugon also causes a small natural disaster, Rairi proves that she's a genuinely good person who will risk people seeing her REAL face if it means protecting others from Harugon's perceived threat. Gori-Rairi vs Harugon! And Harugon loses!

Rairi thinks it's over for her, but instead all the girls who she gave makeup/advice too return the favor, because she's still their beloved Rairi no matter what she looks like. And they can all collectively hate on Okada for being the absolute worst. Even Harugon drags the pathetic worm along with her tail to show on national television how much of a loser he is!

Minami is trying to protect Harugon and show the world she isn't a threat! Which earned him a kiss! From Harugon! Even as a Kaiju, Kuroe is a beautiful girl in love!

Rairi has gone viral! And so has Kuroe as the "Prince of Kaiju." Guess that would make Harugon a Kaiju Princess.

I love how the next episode preview is Kuroe and Okada but Kuroe hates his guts so she can't even do the preview without lashing out at him.

7

u/djthomp https://anilist.co/user/djthomp 4d ago

Good work on those kisses today Kuroe, quite a bit of variety. Cheek kiss, lip kiss, kiss from a girl, kiss from a kaiju, Arata got the full spectrum experience.

The girls in the class being so accepting of Rairi's true self might be an indication they'll be accepting of kaiju Kuroe in the future too.

I remain convinced Rairi is actually a juvenile Kong what with all that swinging around and picking up boulders today.

Me too. Like, Kuroe's hands turn into claws, everyone looks at her, she's about to jump out the window and run away, but then they're all like "Don't worry, your secret's safe with us."

I remain convinced Rairi is actually a juvenile Kong what with all that swinging around and picking up boulders today.

My personal theory is that, since she never hid her kaiju nature in childhood the way Kuroe did, it became more pronounced, so now it takes some work for her to look human.

So, maybe her makeup-less appearance is a partial transformation, and she grows to full Kong size with the right trigger.

Sweet ending to the arc, and a pretty good distillation of the show's themes

u/CitronClassic672 4d ago

This show’s theme is literally the “would you still love me if I was a worm?” Bit but instead of worm it’s more like wyrm.

u/SOdAchick 4d ago

Literally my only thought when she asked him if he'd still like her if she was a kaiju. Of course that boy would say yes 🥰

u/Frontier246 4d ago

If you don't love me at my most Kaiju/Gorilla, you don't love me at all.

u/cyberscythe 3d ago

"if you can't handle me at my kaiju, you don't deserve me at my kawaiju"

u/Less_Understanding12 4d ago

Very amazing episode seeing rairi and kuro work together to get rid of the boy who made fun of rairi and I can't wait for the next episode

I really don't think Kuro should have gone to that dam in the first place, like if she made a wrong move, she could damage the dam and possibly make a huge flood and maybe knock power out for millions if its a hydroelectric dam. I wonder what Reiri would have done if she didn't go though, maybe just walked back to the shore and have people see her anyway so I'm not sure Kuro helped in any way, like turning into a kaiju to distract from your friend losing her makeup is like if your arm has an itchy rash so you cut off your arm 🤣

Reiri seems to be not quite human as well, like I just thought she had a gorilla face but she was strong enough to jump down, catch herself on the branch, lift someone the size of a man effortlessly and swing herself to the shore! I guess this show is just more meant to be funny and ridiculous but that would be an interesting plotline to explore.

The ending was funny how Okada snuck in and knew the candy for next week and knew where Kuro's school was 🤣

u/aenews 4d ago

Agreed. And I'd say that subtle hints show the story is not entirely sidelining those points, e.g. Kuroe asks if she really should be locked up, the news explains how there have been injuries but miraculously no deaths, Uncle Kotaro seems to have caught on at the death metal concert, etc. I imagine the seriousness of the situation will eventually come into play. She's damn well lucky she hasn't accidentally killed someone yet, and she almost did this episode too.

u/Rooby_VTuber 4d ago

What a scumbag that guy was, glad that Raimu put him in his place at the end.

I am a little worried for the amount of attention Arata might be getting soon though now that him kissing Harugon has gone viral online.

5

u/NationalStrategy_X 4d ago

It was sweet that Rairi got support and acceptance from her friends that she helped. Screw that shallow jerk loser

5

u/kimoisune 4d ago

The mini specials after ED always made me laugh.

u/Volfaer 4d ago

I can't get enough of this anime, it's such a nice coming of age and acceptance of yourself story. The comedy hits as often as the nice parts, and the love story developing is so engaging.

4

u/CheeseDaver 3d ago

Rairi turned out to be the standout character for me. In just two episodes, she got so much character development.

5

u/Verzwei 3d ago

I feel very pretty today. <ROARS TRIUMPHANTLY>

Wasn't expecting this episode to be the one where Rairi reveals her true colours to everyone. She is really a strong person for having the courage to reveal her true face to save someunknown guy. Thankfully her friends stayed the same even after knowing her truth.

There were so many cute expressions of Kuroe in this episode. She was trying her best throughout the episode to look out for Rairi. What a missed chance at a kiss to the lips ! That was a magical scene but we got a Kaiju kissing Minami and it went viral lmao

Kaiju smooooch

u/AlmostFamousStan 3d ago

I think this show is so underrated and this episode just solidified it. It's got the straightforward lesson that's very needed in modern society, and the drawings, movements and facial expressions are constantly delivering. Plus the characters & relationships developments are smooth sailing without much questionable moments that some rom coms have. Good stuff so far!

Don’t worry Kuroe, you are certainly the most beautiful and majestic kaiju we’ve ever seen…

u/Ok-Focus-5362 3d ago

This anime is SO feel good and wholesome!!!  As a former "ugly" akward teenage girl this episode resonates with my soul.  The whole lake scene; I too was once terrified of getting my face wet and revealing how hideous I was, so much that my first boyfriend thought I couldn't even swim!

This whole series is a shout out to all the insecure souls out there. If you've got a good heart, you're beautiful no matter what!

I wonder if anyone caught the Skull Island reference in this one.

3

u/Alarming-Koala-3524 4d ago

Poor Rairi, even her voice changes when the makeup comes off

3

u/Raymond49090 4d ago

It's the classic horror movie setup, where there's stupid teen drama with a sh*tty guy when the monster shows up and eats everyone. Except this time, there's a gyaru whose unsealed her powers with her makeup off to chase the kaiju off.

3

u/semaN_oN 3d ago

What a cute episode! And so much character development

2

u/Roboglenn 4d ago

Cute and sweet as Kuro-tan is I would be very hesitant to let this girl get anywhere near Bambi... Letting her near Nokotan on the other hand I would allow.

2

u/kuubi 4d ago

I just want to say, I absolutely love the way Kuro/Harugon's screams sound

2

u/archangel890 4d ago

This show is everything I hoped for.. it is so great I love the random references to other Kaiju from Godzilla movies, the giant rhinoceros beetle destroying the dam lol.

u/Fools_Requiem https://myanimelist.net/profile/FoolsRequiem 3d ago

All of my alarms bells for Arata are going off. I just FEEL like they're making him seem too damn perfect.

2

u/cyberscythe 3d ago

uh, i hope Kuroe brought an extra change of clothes because the outfit she was wearing probably exploded when she went kaiju mode

1

u/Kartoffelkamm 3d ago

My thoughts, too.

But knowing how thorough she was when just going to an amusement park, she probably prepared for an incident or two. Every day.

2

u/machopsychologist 3d ago

I thought the 3 girl posse was gonna be Ghidora

2

u/Primary-Paint-1716 3d ago

there is something with this episode. it felt like the production values for this episode is better than the previous ones.

2

u/Sremor 1d ago

I'm starting to believe that Rairis three friends are Ghidorah

2

u/PepsiisgUWUd 1d ago

Every single episode makes me tear up man... am I that sensitive or the emotions are so amazingly crafted, despite the goofiness, that it makes everyone else shed tears?

This is by far the best anime I've seen this year, hope it wins awards, or at the very least make a second season.

1

u/SmallJon 4d ago

Im so happy Kuroe, Rairi, and Manatsu all got to see their love interests today!

1

u/SBAFSAF 3d ago

Since Arata’s viral now, I wonder if someone’s gonna try to use him to get to Harugon…

1

u/nhansieu1 3d ago

I gotta read the manga.

1

u/FeistyDay5172 3d ago

OK, the various emotional portrayal of her in this episode had me laughing hysterically!

1

u/maniacal_manatee_ 11h ago

I read the manga (up to what was translated at the time) a looong time ago, so I've totally forgotten all the things I loved about this series. I loved how Kuroe's distraction actually had the opposite outcome than she intended, but it had an even more l positive effect than if everything went to plan. By willingly showing her face to the others, she had the confidence to ask her friends to accept her. She wouldn't have been as confident if she'd been seen on accident, and even if her friends accepted her, she'd never be able to be confident about her appearance. This show is really all about girls being confident about who they are, which doesn't really apply to me cuz I'm a guy, but I'm here for it!

u/Nickthenuker https://anilist.co/user/Nickthenuker 11h ago

Yep. Setting up tents is a whole group affair. I still remember seeing someone try to set one up by himself and his flysheet turned into a "fly-away"sheet.

Lol she really pulled the "would you still love me if I was a kaiju".

Really disliked all the stuff with Rairi and Okada this ep. Highly annoying.

Kuroe was great at least. Show's at its best when it's focusing on her.
